A VOLFLITE ITANDIAMP t0 251 MARK I is a lanp in a plasticenclosure with rechargeable batteries. It is suitable forcarrying by hand.

The general arrangernent of the lanp is shown on drawing NoS-25L-292-L. the batteries for the lanp are two 5amgnre,/hour sealed lead acid batteries, which may be either:

Chloride Qrclon t14n X001 or

C'eneral Electric tlpe G80250.

'Ihese batteries are contained in their o!,rn rnoulded caseshown on drawing No l{-251-292-6, wtrich allows the batteriesto be removed as one unit for replacement or recharging.The body shown on drawing No Ivt-251-292-3 and the lens ringshown on drawing No M-25I-292-4 are moulded in a poly-propylene and trnlyethylene co;nlymer tlpe g{tv1213. Afterreleasing a locking screw with the strncial tool provided,wktich locks the switch in the OFF trnsition, the lens ringnay be unscrewed from the body to prmit removal of thebatteries or bulb and replacement. Ttre lanp is intended tobe oSnned only in a non hazardous area, and not left openlonger than is required to change a battery or bu1b. Ttreplastic reflector and lens ring wtrich may be made oftrnlycarbonate or toughened glass, are clamtrnd tight againsta gasket in the lens ring by the reflector retaining ring,which screws into the lens ring. the pre-focus bulb ratedat 3.6, 3.8 or 4 volts I anp is pressed into the back of thereflector by a spring loaded bulb cover which screws intothe back of the reflector, thus forming a further enclosureof IP54 within the main IP54 enclosure for the back of thebulb. A battery retainer prevents the batteries from comingforward and damaging tLre bulb holder fixing in ttrereflector. Ttre circuit includes a L.25 amp ceramic bodymineral filfed cartridge fuse.

The srritch is a hermetically sealed reed switch otrnratedfrom a sliding magnet assembly external to the mainenclosure, mounted conveniently below the carrying handle,rrtttich affords it protect.ion from impact. The reed switchwtrich is hermetically sealed in glass is protected bySpcial Protection, under trnragraph 5.2 of SFA 3009 z L972.

A battery charger is supplied by Wolf Safety Lampspecifically for charging the battery from this lamp. Tkrecharger, and ttre battery assembly, during charging, are notcovered by this certificate. Battery charging may only bedone in a non hazardous area. The charger enclosure his amatching recess, with spring loaded terminals at the bottom,into wtrich the battery fits. Tkre battery charger circuit isdesigned such that it will detect full charge of the batteryand switch the charging current to trickle wtren thebatteries are fully chargeC, and this condition is indicatedby a light on the charger.

Tkre hanClamp has a T4 rating for a maximum ambie4t of 35oC,or 170"C (T3) rating for a rnaximum ambient of G5"C. Due tothe hazard of static electric build up, or trnssible damageto the Snlycarbonate lens, the lamp may only be cleaned witha wet cloth. Hydrocarbon solvents or a dry cloth are notsuitable. The lamp has two charging studs projecting from theunderside of the body, each stud having a reaa with twodiodes in series and a push connector. one fits on to a tagon one terminal of the battery assembly, the other to aterminal strip on the lamp body directly connected to theother terminal of the battery. The diodes are connectedsuch that ttrey permit a charging current to flow, butprevent current flow out of the hand ramp from the knttery.In addition, a vent hole is provided to preventpressurisation of ttre enclosure due to gassing thai couldoccur due to faurty charging of the cerls. TLris vent horeis plugged with a porous trnrmeable high density polyethyrene(trade name "VyOt{ F") filter, beneath the rating p1ate,wtrich holds ttre filter in place. Details of
