Hi friends and family, I am doing ok. Thank you each for your kind remarks and sup-port. Having now seen the building in person, I can tell you I would either be dead or in the burn unit if I had been in the office. It hasn't sunk in yet, thankfully. I'm just focusing on the mundane things in life like feeding cats and watching the Olympics. Vernon Hunter, my boss did die in the at-tack. His body was formally identified this morning and he was the only casualty besides the pilot. It has been so devas-tating for us. He was such a good man and a good manag-er, which is rare. I can't believe he survived Vietnam, being stationed in El Paso, and managing a bunch of head strong Revenue Officer's only to be killed so senselessly. He and his family have a deep and abiding Christian faith and I hope it brings them some measure of peace. I want to share a few funny stories about Vern, because I believe it is important to cele-brate the lives of people that touch us. But first I want to say that the IRS has been very sup-portive of us. The work that most of the people in our build-ing did is often the most con-frontational, because we have Revenue Agents (field auditors), Criminal Investiga-tion, other compliance offices, and of course my area, the

Revenue Officers (ROs). I un-derstand the pilot was being audited. ROs are the Tax Col-lectors that seize property among other things. We are not allowed to take any defen-sive or offensive weapons in the field - not even pepper spray. (We do get to call the Police if we need an escort, at least). We are subjected to every kind of crazy verbal tirade and threat. We have to be careful with the mail that comes to us. ROs have been assault-ed, bitten by dogs, witnessed suicides, and been shot. The FBI in Tampa busted a man trying to put a hit on an RO. It's not a job for the faint-hearted. And I love it. I'm care-ful and always practice the pre-ventative things we are sup-posed to do to keep an incident from occurring. Still, no one can control everything and stuff happens. Very sad stuff. My boss, Vern, was such a character. He was a Revenue Officer in El Paso after he re-tired from the Army as a War-rant Officer. He survived Viet-nam and growing up black in the Carolinas. He had children and grandchildren and had been thinking of retiring some-time in the next 2 or so years. He was worried that if he had time on his hands, his wife might make him organize the garage! He loved Hank Williams and Country music, but also the Eagles and so many others from the 60's and 70's. We would always try to stump each other with 'name that artist' and he was shocked when I beat him once (the an-swer was BJ Thomas). Manag-ers are required to go to the field with each RO at least once a year. When Vern went with me his was in a sharp back suit with a black shirt and tie and his ubiquitous white Cowboy hat. He looked like Johnny Law. It was awesome. He did-

n't even complain about my driving... too much. (I am my father's daughter.) He told me he had a bad man-ager who used to drive him nuts. So he started do imagi-nary whittling and carving with his hands. Finally his manager asked him what he was do-ing. Vern said "I making your doll; it's part of my cul-ture." That story cracked me up! So we used to make carving motions at each other during our one on one meet-ings. His doctor was concerned about his heart health and told him he had to eliminate caffeine or at least cut it way back. The first time he saw me with a Diet Dr Pepper he started giving me grief for flaunting it in his pres-ence. Naturally I started wav-ing it in his face. We both just laughed. Vern loved the TV show Lost as much as I do and was really looking forward to finding out what is up on that island. I'll just have to watch if for him. He also loved UTEP athletics, es-pecially our beloved Men's Bas-ketball team. He lived down the street from Bobby Joe Hill at one time and his kids thought that was the coolest. (Those that don't know Bobby Joe Hill should rent a movie called Glo-ry Road. As I told Vern, I thought the 1966 Miners team was the most famous in the world.) He made a very stress-ful job easier for us to do. He tried to buffer us from upper management when he could. He made me laugh and feel appreciated. I am going to miss him terribly. I don't know if his wife, also a Revenue Officer in another group, will ever come back to work. She is a good friend and we had lots of laughs together. I pray she can laugh someday, too. Love to all, Amanda Susan

In Memory Of Brother Vernon Hunter

He was such a good man and a good manager

Nehemiah 9:20 Common, too common is the sin of forgetting the Holy Spirit. This is folly and ingrati-tude. He deserves well at our hands, for He is good, supremely good. As God, He is good essentially. He shares in the threefold ascription of Holy, holy, holy, which ascends to the Triune Jehovah. Unmixed purity and truth, and grace is He. He is good benevolently, tenderly bearing with our waywardness, striving with our rebellious wills; quickening us from our death in sin, and then train-ing us for the skies as a loving nurse fosters her child. How generous, forgiving, and tender is this patient Spirit of God. He is good operative-ly. All His works are good in the most eminent degree: He suggests good thoughts, prompts good ac-

tions, reveals good truths, applies good promises, assists in good at-tainments, and leads to good results. There is no spiritual good in all the world of which He is not the author and sustainer, and heaven itself will owe the perfect character of its re-deemed inhabitants to His work. He is good officially; whether as Com-forter, Instructor, Guide, Sanctifier, Quickener, or Intercessor, He fulfills His office well, and each work is fraught with the highest good to the church of God. They who yield to His influences become good, they who obey His impulses do good, they who live under His power re-ceive good. Let us then act towards so good a person according to the dictates of gratitude. Let us revere His person, and adore Him as God

over all, blessed for ever; let us own His power, and our need of Him by waiting upon Him in all our holy en-terprises; let us hourly seek His aid, and never grieve Him; and let us speak to His praise whenever occasion occurs. The church will never pros-per until more reverently it believes in the Holy Ghost. He is so good and kind, that it is sad indeed that He should be grieved by slights and negligences.

"Thy Good Spirit."

My Testimony Angie Y. Miller

Member, C-FIRE Nashville, Tennessee Chapter

Since 1992 I’ve been fighting cancer. This is my fourth fight. I’ve had melanoma, ovarian, stage 1 breast cancer and in October 2007 I was diagnosed with breast cancer that had metastasized to my left side of spine. I’ve had surgery, radia-tion and chemotherapy with my cancers. When the doctor told me this last time I had about one year to live and to get my affairs in order I was scared

but I told myself I got God in my life I’m not going to fear I’ve beat cancer three times already. After talking to God and it was revealed to get my affairs in order, I thought about my daughter who had just lost a father to pancreatic cancer, my family and how this would affect them because we were so close. During my daily prayer I ask God to heal my body of all sickness and dis-ease and when I went back to my doctor she told me about a Research Study Program, again God had heard my pray-ers. I enrolled in the study with several other people but I took it a step further I went to a De-fensive Eating class that teach-es you what to eat while you’re taking treatments and after your treatment; and I saw a herbalist, he discussed a varie-ty of natural herbs and teas that help your immune system when taking treatments. Today I am the only person left in the study; the others have passed on or didn’t respond well to the drug. Since Octo-

ber 2007 I take a treatment once a week for three weeks than off one week, the drugs I’m taking are Taxal, Avastain and Gemzair. Alt-hough each of these drugs have serious side effects such as loss of all hair, neu-ropathy in fingers and feet, nose bleed, nausea, fatigue and many more, by Gods grace I only suffer with neu-ropathy in my fingers. I will continue these treatments until I can’t take anymore. I owe my life to God for hearing my prayer and allowing me to be here to tell my story. Before I close I would like to leave you with this: Always trust and pray to God because he will answer your prayer, and Joshua 1:9 says I’ve com-manded you to be strong and brave. Don’t ever be afraid or discouraged! I am the Lord your God and I will be there to help you wherev-er you go, because with God all things are possible.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. Psalm

116:15

“That man is great and he alone who serves a greatness not his own; For neither praise nor pelf: know and be un-known: Whole in him-self.”

“Great men stand like solitary towers in the city of God.”

Dan gave generously and quietly; he served humbly and diligently; he encouraged hon-estly and openly; and he prayed passionate-

ly and sincerely. Dan was a friend to all; and he was my very dear friend and brother in Christ. For he was a man to be depended on, patient, loving, kind and caring…not to mention; slow to anger, careful with his words, and most importantly God fearing. He was so very special. We will never forget Dan, including his very own sense of humor. He will always hold a very special place within my heart. I miss him very much!

Mary Rapier

Dan was cherished by many of his co-workers. He was passionate about his work and his fellow co-workers. He was like our Santa Claus all through the year. He was our Candy Man. I am thankful for the many beautiful years that I worked with you. Rest in peace

my good friend. I miss your smil-ing face, and your interesting con-versation. Teresa J. Britt

I want to say that my last memory of Dan that morning, December 18, 2009, was coming in and he had put a large pile of bubble gum on my desk & a note to come see him when I got in. When I went over to see him, he had a taxpayer so he could not talk. He was smil-ing, held up one finger and mouthed “I have something to tell you”. He had the very special smile on his face he got when he was up to something. I knew what he wanted based on several dis-cussions he and I were having. He never got to tell me exactly what he wanted to say, but I feel in my heart that the conversation will one day continue where we left off. God took His angel home. Audrey H. Harris

I use to call Dan the Sweets Man. He always made sure we had something to snack on and he did not mind sharing with every-one. I enjoyed working with him at the CFIRE conference. He is gone, but not forgotten.......Anita V. Wil-son

Dan was a great employee, co-worker, friend, and person. He went out of his way to help in any way he could. I really enjoyed working with him and he will be missed. Love Renee Spencer.

Dan is the friend we all need – al-ways there, doing the right thing at the right time in order to make things function as they are supposed to. When Dan and I were working the C-Fire National Convention last sum-mer, I thought I would arrive early to help prepare. When I got there Dan already had tables up, displays out and was ready to go. It is too easy to take a man like him for granted. We miss him greatly. Jerry Goff

Our friend Dan has surely been missed. Every morning Dan and his friend Lawrence would come into the snack bar and he would tease me about my friend Lennie saying “Angie you're not choosy about the company you keep”, and we would laugh and start a conversation with lots of joking. Everyday he always

brought candy, peanut butter crack-ers and cakes for everyone to enjoy and not once did he ask for mon-ey. Dan had been with the IRS for so long and it's hard to believe he's with our Lord and savior and some days I just expect to see him walk by my desk and ask Angie how's it go-ing. I miss you Dan. Angie Y. Miller

I am so sorry for Cricket's and the family's loss. We miss him very much but know the Lord makes no mistakes. I pray the Comfort-er will soon buffer the pain of his absence and give them the peace that surpasses all under-standing. Claudia Woodard

We not O' gentle Christian, Tho' death's dread toll doth sound, And linger not in deed or thought, For I know where' I am bound, Weep not O' gentle Christian, Tho' I'll ne'er more be near your side, For ye shall carry with you memories sweet, Which in thy heart shall hide, Weep not O' gentle Christian, And have not a care for my es-tate, For in a short while ye also, Shall meet me at that gate, Weep not O' gentle Christian, For the Word of God doth show, O'er me death has no victory, And cannot lay me low, Weep not O' gentle Christian, As I fly from this weary land, Let 'membrence bring not sorrow drear, For in God's presence I now stand.

What multitudes of prayers we have put up from the first moment when we learned to pray. Our first prayer was a prayer for ourselves; we asked that God would have mercy upon us, and blot out our sin. He heard us. But when He had blotted out our sins like a cloud, then we had more prayers for ourselves. We have had to pray for sanctifying grace, for con-straining and restraining grace; we have been led to crave for a fresh assurance of faith, for the comfortable application of the promise, for deliverance in the hour of temptation, for help in the time of duty, and for succour in the day of trial. We have been

compelled to go to God for our souls, as constant beggars asking for everything. Bear witness, chil-dren of God, you have never been able to get anything for your souls elsewhere. All the bread your soul has eaten has come down from heaven, and all the water of which it has drank has flowed from the living rock--Christ Jesus the Lord. Your soul has never grown rich in itself; it has always been a pen-sioner upon the daily bounty of God; and hence your prayers have ascended to heaven for a range of spiritual mercies all but infinite. Your wants were innumer-able, and therefore the supplies have been infinitely great, and

your prayers have been as varied as the mercies have been count-less. Then have you not cause to say, "I love the Lord, because He hath heard the voice of my suppli-cation"? For as your prayers have been many, so also have been God's answers to them. He has heard you in the day of trouble, has strengthened you, and helped you, even when you dishonoured Him by trembling and doubting at the mercy-seat. Remember this, and let it fill your heart with grati-tude to God, who has thus gra-ciously heard your poor weak prayers. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His bene-fits."

“Praying Always”

"Behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague." Leviticus 13:13

Strange enough this regulation appears, yet there was wisdom in it, for the throwing out of the disease proved that the constitution was sound. This evening it may be well for us to see the typical teaching of so singular a rule. We, too, are lepers, and may read the law of the leper as applicable to ourselves. When a man sees himself to be altogether lost and ruined, covered all over with the defilement of sin, and in no part free from pollution; when he disclaims all righteousness of his own, and pleads guilty before the Lord, then he is clean through the blood of Jesus, and the grace of God. Hidden, unfelt, unconfessed iniquity is the true leprosy; but when sin is seen and felt, it has received its deathblow, and the Lord looks with eyes of mercy upon the soul afflicted with it. Noth-ing is more deadly than self-righteousness, or more hopeful than contrition. We must confess that we are "nothing else but sin," for no confession short of this will be the whole truth; and if the Holy Spirit be at work with us, convincing us of sin, there will be no difficulty about making such an acknowledgment --it will spring spontaneously from our lips. What comfort does the text afford to truly awakened sinners: the very circumstance which so grievously discouraged them is here turned into a sign and symptom of a hopeful state! Stripping comes before clothing; digging out the foundation is the first thing in building--and a thorough sense of sin is one of the earliest works of grace in the heart. O thou poor leprous sinner, utterly destitute of a sound spot, take heart from the text, and come as thou art to Jesus--

"For let our debts be what they may, however great or small, As soon as we have nought to pay,

To My CFIRE Family,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for your prayers, phone calls and most of all your love shared toward me. A very special thanks to my sisters Joyce Riddicks-Reynolds, Beatrice William-son-Johnson, Margaret Newcombe and Lexie White whom I thank God for being my friends. I de-cided to share comments with regards to my com-panion for we had a very Christian relationship.

This is for the living:

Some people will never

know the real meaning of

true love until they realize

that God is love and then

you will learn how to share

that love. I met Michael

some years ago, and as I

reflect back on our first en-

counter at his Brother Lar-

ry’s house there was an

immediate attraction.

Michael was my best friend

and I loved him so much.

He was a great guy that

was very caring and loving

to me. I cannot reflect on

his past before my time on-

ly with our time that God

allowed us to be together.

My family adored him be-

cause they knew he made

me happy and I am sure

that his family adored me

as well. Our relationship

was very special, very re-

spectful and loving. I use

to tell him all of the time my

family really likes you, and

he would say to me, “that is

because I am a good guy

who wants to put a ring on

your finger”, and my re-

sponse would always be I

am satisfied with the way

things are. He loved his

boys Mikie and Brandon

and all of his siblings and

sister in law Quida. When

my daughter became ill he

was so unbelievable sup-

portive and consoling to me

and my family. I thank God

for his sister Jackie who

saw to his medical needs

and his son Mikie who

made sure his father was

taken to the doctor or hos-

pital without delay. I thank

his family for always includ-

ing us for family gatherings

this made Michael very

happy, especially when we

were being teased by his

brothers Larry, Victor and

John. He loved it when my

daughters Kimberly and

Chonette referred to him as

their step-father. I will miss

our beach trips, Saturday

and Sunday drives, attend-

ing church, going break-

fast, lunch and dinners.

Although, I am hurting and

mourning, I know what the

bible says, Matthew 5:14

“Blessed are those who

mourn for they shall be

comforted”.

To all of my single Chris-

tian friends, yes with God’s

Blessings it is truly possi-

ble to have a Christian rela-

tionship. Just keep God in

the forefront of the Chris-

tian relationship.

Thanks you all for your prayers

Out of Africa Praise the Lord! God really blessed our mission trip to Kenya, east Africa February 7-18

th.

There were so many wonderful testimonies result-ing from the preached word and gifts we presented. The theme this year was centered on the Blessing of the Lord. While in Nairobi, Kenya we conducted three (3) services a day. Be-cause the people we were ministering to are very poor, we spent the entire conference on how to prosper God’s way. We encour-aged the folks by letting them know that they ‘were

blessed to be a blessing…’ (Gen 12:1-3) As the seed of Abraham, God promises to bless each of us. The brothers and sisters received the in-structions and im-mediately begin to apply the teachings. Host Pastor Olweny told the team that Sunday’s offering more than doubled and 18 people joined his fellow-ship. I also was asked to speak at New Life Church in Nakuru, Kenya. New Life is the primary ministry that Global Vision supports. We spoke from the topic ‘Don’t let your mess mock your miracle’. We were well received.

Bishop Peter Kibe, who is awaiting a kidney transplant, was greatly encour-aged. Continue to pray for him and provide donations to help defer the cost of the surgery. Not only did we teach the Word, we also provided mon-etary donations to the church and indi-viduals who were starting businesses. Shoes we also pro-vide to the children. Thank you again for the support each of you provided. For additional infor-mation, please visit www.templehillschurchofgod.com.
