    1 Indroduction

    1.1 Gateway Features

KraftCom HotelNet Control Gateway CGH-1000 is an all-purpose gateway for public Internet

access. The CGH1000 allows you to provide, manage and account public Internet use in entire

    buildings like hotels, hospitals, etc.

Internet connections can be managed (remotely) and billed per time.

Use Vouchers or a PMS port of the hotel-front-office software for AAA (Authentification,

Authorization, Accounting). The optional ticket printer KraftCom zGW-BON provides vouchers easy

    and comfortable.

Use any media like electrical, coax, phone wires, Ethernet cabling and Wireless LAN to distribute

Internet within the building. The CGH1000 provides special features to configure and monitor

KraftCom PowerLine and CoaxLine hardware. Set up and administration of a network using existing power, coax and/ or phone wires has never been easier.

    Some of the product features:

User Login page can be customized

    Plug & Play for UserPCs

    Login with voucher and password

Login fast and convenient without voucher (RoomLogin), if gateway is connected to hotel-

front-office software and the network is qualified for RoomLogin

With RoomLogin: automatic accounting via room bill

User Protection: Other UserPCs are not visible, access is not possible

    Remote administration

Provides hardware and network management of the connected KraftCom PowerLine and

    CoaxLine adapters

    1.2 Hints For This Manual

A data network using existing electrical or coax wires will hereinafter be referred to as a

    HomePlug net.

    3 Getting Started

    3.1 First Steps

Plug in the power supply and attach it to the CGH1000. Attach the AdminPC to the LAN2 port of

the gateway, either directly per Crossover CAT5 cable or via switch/hub. Default settings of the

LAN2 port: IP address 192.168.2.1, DHCP server is running. Make sure your AdminPC is using an

appropriate static IP address and default gateway or is obtaining an IP address automatically

(recommended). Settings under windows XP: Start/ settings/ control panel/ network connections/ local area

network/ properties/ Internet protocol (TCP/IP)/ properties: Obtain an IP address automatically

    and obtain DNS server automatically.

Turn on your CGH1000 by pressing the power button (front panel). Starting the gateway takes

    about 45 seconds.

The CGH1000 provides a web interface (called Administrator Interface) for configuration and

administration. Use any desired web browser with activated Javascript. Start your web browser

and enter the following IP address and port number:

    http://192.168.2.1:8080

The CGH1000 Administrator Interface appears. Login with default username: admin and default password: admin. Click on Login at the left side.

Successfully logged in, the Status: General page shows up. A navigation bar is located on the left

    side.

In case the Administrator interface is running in German, you can switch languages under

    Sprache(=Language) in the navigation bar.

    Navigation Bar

    HotelNET Control Gateway CGH1000 Manual

    Adjust the system time.

It is recommended to change or set username and password for Administrator, Supervisor and

    Account Manager.

Important note: Do not use the navigation buttons of your browser, otherwise you will be logged

out and will have to login again.

    3.2 Configuration: Overview

    3.2.1 Ethernet Networks

    Network settings:.

Choose Network from the navigation bar and do the required settings under

    General, WAN, ADM and LAN.

In case you receive a dynamic IP Address from your Internet Service Provider

but want to access the Administrator Interface remote, you probably wish to

    configure dyndns (under: Network: DynDNS).

You may also wish to change security settings (Choose Security from the

    navigation bar).

After you have finished, activate your settings by clicking the Restart Network button. Please

note: If you changed LAN2 settings, you have to adjust your AdminPC settings.

    3.2.2 HomePlug Network

Now you can set up your HomePlug net (PowerLine/CoaxLine).

Small network up to 15 users (=guests):

To set up a network, connect a single HomePlug adapter to the LAN3 port by using an Ethernet

cable. This HomePlug adapter serves as a feeder for your HomePlug net. Allocate the rest of the

HomePlug adapters within the building. Using just one Feeder with a maximum of 15 clients, the

default password NEK can be left unaffected. Using the same NEK the HomePlug adapters will

automatically set up a network as soon as they are attached to the power or coax wires of the

    building.

Please consider the characteristics of PowerLine / CoaxLine Hardware, especially the range. For

information refer to the documentation of these products. After all the client adapters have been

identified by the gateway, a new password NEK can be assign to the whole group of adapters. (see

    chapter 4.3.5 page 16)

    Network with several feeders:

Each group of HomePlug adapters (1 feeder, max. 15 clients) needs its own password NEK. Install

one group according to the description above and change NEKs before installing the next group.

Use a switch to attach more than one feeder to LAN3 of the CGH1000.

Under Status/ Usernet you can check the status of each HomePlug adapter.

Click on Details to monitor the client adapters.

Following the network installation, you should define users tariffs and the expiration of accounts as

well as customize the Login page.

AAA can be done via PMS port of the front-office-software (Protel, Gubse, Hotline Software). Or

vouchers can be handed over to the users. The optional ticket printer KraftCom zGW-BON provides

    vouchers easy and comfortable.

    4.3 Network

Changes within the network settings normally need a network restart to be enabled. If you want to

restart the user network click on Restart Network.

It is recommend, to finish all network settings then restart the network.

Information about your local Internet connection, modem/ router and/ or your local Intranet will

be needed below. For questions please contact your local Internet Service Provider or network

    administrator.

    4.3.1 Network: General

Hostname: should be ONE word without special characters, e.g. the name of the hotel

Default Gateway: IP address of the Internet gateway for the CGH1000, e.g. the Internet

    router of the hotel

Nameserver: IP address of the DNS servers for the CGH1000, e.g. the Internet router of

the hotel or public DNS server

The Default Gateway and Nameserver arrays should not be blank even if WAN (LAN1) Mode is set

to LAN-DHCP or PPPoE. In this case just leave the default settings, considering: The default

gateways IP has to be in the same IP range than the WAN (LAN1) ports.

If PMS connection (front-office-software) is designated, the necessary settings have to be done.

    Contact KraftCom for further information.

Note: To connect the CGH1000 to the front-office-software a KraftCom licence as well as a licence

of the software manufacturer is needed. In addition the user network has to be qualified for the

    RoomLogin feature.

    Appropriate networks for RoomLogin are:

HomePlug net with immovable installed PowerLine/ CoaxLine adapters

    4.3.2 Network: WAN (LAN1)

All required information has to be given by your local Internet Service Provider or network

    administrator.

    Modes for WAN (LAN1) port:

LAN CGH1000 is getting Internet access via Local Area Network (e.g. Intranet of the hotel).

CGH1000 needs an appropriate, static IP address and default gateway. CGH1000 is acting

as a router with NAT at WAN port.

    LAN/DHCP

CGH1000 is also getting Internet access via Local Area Network (e.g. Intranet of the hotel).

CGH1000 obtains an IP address and default gateway automatically. CGH1000 is acting as a

router with NAT at WAN port.

    PPPoE

CGH1000 is connected to an Internet modem that uses the PPPoE protocol. Set Username

and password (given by your Internet Service Provider). Set a corresponding IP address.

CGH1000 is acting as a router with NAT at WAN port.

    PPTP

CGH1000 is connected to an Internet using the PPTP protocol. Set Username and password as well as the IP address of the PPTP server. Set a corresponding IP address. CGH1000 is

acting as a router with NAT at WAN port.

    LAN/Bridge

For special applications only. Do not use this option.

  • 15

    HotelNET Control Gateway CGH1000 Manual

    4.3.3 Network: ADM (LAN2)

Change this settings only if necessary. Inaccurate settings will prohibit access to the

CGH1000. In this case try to connect to WAN (LAN1) of the CGH1000 to enter the

    Administrator Interface.

The ADM port (LAN2/eth1) is used to connect an AdminPC (connection via crossover cable or

switch) or to connect a hotel Intranet (e.g. OfficePCs).

Internet access via ADM (LAN2) port is not restricted at all.

For safety reasons no routing between LAN2 and LAN3 (user/guest network) is possible. AdminPC/Intranet and guest network are separated.

Change IP address and netmask, only if you want to change default settings.

You can run a DHCP server at the ADM (LAN2) port to assign IP address(es) automatically to the

AdminPC or hotel Intranet. Set the start and the number of IP addresses to by assigned.

    4.3.4 Network: LAN (LAN3)

The LAN (LAN3/eth2) port is connected to the user/ guest network.

For safety reasons the Administrator Interface is not accessible over LAN3.

Change IP address and netmask, only if you want to change default settings.

    DHCP has to be started.

    Client start address:

The first address to be assigned by the LAN3 DHCP server.

    For instance (default settings):

    Client start address: 10.0.1.2

first UserPC will obtain: 10.0.1.2 default gateway: 10.0.1.1

second UserPC: 10.0.2.2 default gateway: 10.0.2.1

    third UserPC: 10.0.3.2 default gateway: 10.0.3.1 ...

    the subnetmask always remains: 255.255.255.252

Note: The subnetmask 255.255.255.252 is determined. For this reason the Client start

address always has to end with the number 2.

  • 16

    HotelNET Control Gateway CGH1000 Manual

    Number of subnets:

The number of leases/subnets is equal to the number of concurrent users.

    Activate login:

activated: The user automatically gets a Login page. Essential for AAA (Authentification,

Authorization and especially Accounting).. not activated: No Login page is shown. The user gets immediate Internet access. (e.g.

useful for free of charge service)

IP PNP (IP Plug & Play):

should always be activated: The UserPC will be integrated in the network, even if the

computer uses a static, inappropriate IP address.

    exceptions:

-In case two UserPCs use the same static IP address, one IP address has to be changed

(e.g. switch to obtain IP address automatically)

-In case the static IP address of the UserPC is identical with the IP of the assigned default

gateway or DNS server, the IP address of the UserPC also has to be changed.

    Length of Username and Password:

Sets number of characters for every account (only accounts that are not generated per

RoomLogin) . Arrays must not left blank.

    4.3.5 Network: Usernet

Manage your HomePlug net by using this page. Settings will be activated immediately without

restarting the network, except the VLAN separation.

    Select a Status Poll Method:

    Discovery:

The CGH1000 is searching for all available HomePlug adapters after the next reboot. Not

available adapters (=offline) will no longer be shown.

Known Adapter: The CGH1000 will ascertain the status of all known adapters (whether available or not).

New added adapters will not be discovered. Therefore not available adapters will not be

discarded after the next reboot (but marked as offline).

Status Poll Interface: determines the interface(s) for the Status Poll Method

(=determines the interface(s) to search for HomePlug adapters)

Number of broadcast requests: A higher number of requests enhances the quality of screening

(especially under bad conditions). On the other hand requests of course lower the performance of

    the network.

Status Poll Interval: time between two status polls (consider: using more than one Status Poll

Interface will multiply the time the same adapter is screened).

VLAN: to separate individual HomePlug net (e.g. to raise performance)

A VLAN capable switch is mandatory for this feature.

    Administration of the HomePlug adapters:

All reachable feeders are displayed. The information whether an adapter is used as feeder or client

is not stored by the gateway. This information is provided by the Status Poll monitoring and

    therefore remains up to date.

    Unreachable Adapters:
