Last week I accompanied oneof my elder relatives who wassuffering from multiple organfailure, to a super specialityhospital The senior doctoradvised for a CT scan, MRIand an X-ray. As I was sittingwith the doctor, he showedme the results and pointedout phlegm-laden lungs,
plaque-heavy arteries. “Okay, wellhere it is”, the doctor clearly said,“Look, 5 cm to the left of hisOesophagus and see that red, fist-shaped spot.”
He immediately made aconclusive diagnosis that “this is yourrelativeʼs anger! Itʼs dangerouslyenlarged.” The doctor pointed to me,”What the hell! He is having bouts ofanger in his lifestyle.” I realised howthe doctor was revealing about one ofhis emotions – ʻangerʼ.
While your emotions and feelingsmay be invisible to the worldʼs mostadvanced medical technology, theystill impact your health just as muchas your flesh and blood organs do.“Emotions too are physiological,”says a clinical psychologist andpsychoanalytical therapist.

The Thirst for WealthShort Story
Reshma was waiting for Rohshan. It was almost9 pm. She was dying to give him the news thattheir son-in-law Yogesh has been promoted as thevice- president of the City Bank. Her mind wentback to Sneha’s marriage with Yogesh. Reshmaand Rohshan had two pretty daughters – Snehaand Rupa. Though he only belonged to the
middle class, he had great ambition for his children. Hewas always enamoured with status and wealth.
Rohshan educated them to postgraduate levels andtrained them in Indian classical music. Both wereaccomplished singers and were well known in theChennai Carnatic Music Circle. At one such concertYogesh heard Sneha sing and fell in love with her. Hewas an officer in a foreign bank and hailed from a richfamily. His parents cared only for their son’s happiness,so events took a whirlwind speed and Yogesh andSneha were pronounced man and wife. Sneha went toMumbai to start her married life.
The sound of the doorbell brought her back from herreverie. She welcomed Rohshan with a big smile.
“You look as though you have won a lottery. What isthe secret of your glowing face?” Rohshan mimicked theadvertisement for Lakme’s face wash.
“I tried to call you. Why didn’t you pick up your cellphone?” asked Reshma.
“What was so urgent? Now that I am home, breakthe news fast,” laughed Rohshan.
“Sneha called from Mumbai. Yogesh has been
promoted as vice-president and there is a huge salaryrise,” said Reshma.
“Wow! That is great news, indeed. Let me talk toher.” Rohshan hurried to the phone.
“It is already 10 pm. Don’t disturb them now. Call inthe morning,” said Reshma.
That night both were so happy that sleep eludedthem.
“I wish Rupa had married someone with a betterstanding in life. She can’t even leave her job since hisincome won’t suffice,” said Reshma.
“It is true that love is blind. It is her choice,”commented Rohshan.
Their younger daughter Rupa married Abhishek, acomputer engineer working for a multinational. Hewas charming and brilliant at his work. Both
worked in the same organisation and fell in love witheach other. Their earnings were good by normalstandards. Abhishek had the responsibility of educatinghis brother, marrying his sister off etc. A bulk of theirsalary was spent on them. They could hardly save muchfor the future but Rupa didn’t care. She was very happywith him and she loved his family. She was eight monthspregnant and was expected to go over to her parents’home shortly. Sneha had a pretty, three-year-olddaughter called Sudha. Everyone adored her.
A month passed. One morning as Rohshan washaving breakfast, the phone rang. Reshma came back
