Fully CustomizableMedallions and links for your Chain of Office will be created from your choice of metals, including gold, silver and bronze. The hand-crafted chain elements may be sculpted, high-relief pieces, or engraved with significant logos, names, or dates.

A variety of finishes and patinas is available. Color enameling, gemstones, or custom shapes are special features you can employ to create your distinctive Chain of Office.

Symbols of LeadershipBe recognized as your institution’s highest authority at ceremonies and other prestigious events by having Medallic Art Company hand- craft a Chain of Office for you.

Chains of Office are delivered during the inauguration of a new leader. Chains may be passed down and customized to recognize all of your institution’s leaders. However, some institutions choose to award departing presidents or chancellors the chain they wore so they may cherish their time and success at the school. At that time, an incoming leader will receive a new chain to signify future growth and success.

Medallic Art Company has been creating Chains of Office exclusively in the United States since 1903. Call us today to learn how we can help you customize this lasting symbol of esteem for you and your institution.

how to Select Your ComponentsThe links in the chains of officeare highly personal to eachschool they represent. Theycan be shaped into schoolsymbols or important people inthe school’s history, or engravedwith meaningful words, mottos, ideas, names, or logos. Then select the chain linkstyle that best complementsyour institution, with yourchoice of bronze, silver, or24kt gold finishes.

A die can be made for the round and square components for three-dimensional rendering of the school seals, important personages, logos, or other elements that represent your school’s heritage.

Many institutions choose to recognize past leaders, important dates, mottos, or academic disciplines on the curved banner, square, or round components. These engraved elements really tell the story of your institution and make your Chain of Office unique to your school.

NOTE: Components and chain links not sold separately.

How to Wear Your Chain of OfficeA Chain of Office is, by design, an elaborate hand-made article of art and should not be uncomfortable.

The most comfortable way to wear a Chain of Office is to balance the length of the chain on the shoulders so as to offset the weight of the chain’s front. This can be done by sewing Velcro, buttons, or hooks onto the shoulders of your garment to secure and stabilize the chain in position. An optional stabilizing chain link is available to attach to the upper part of the inside of your Chain of Office to help position it properly.

You will be happy to know the mace arrived in time for our inauguration ceremonies yesterday. People were impressed, and it makes a great addition to our campus symbolism. The workmanship is very fine, and it is even more substantial than I had imagined from the photos in the catalog. Well done, and thank you.

Gary EberleProfessor of English; Master of the Revels for Aquinas College’s 125th anniversary

Aquinas College

Seattle University wanted a truly one-of-a-kind look for its mace. For this 36-inch tall dark walnut mace, the institution opted to have the university seal facing skyward, engraved atop a silver platform mounted on an ornate staff.

Aquinas College created this 45-inch dark walnut and brass mace with four small medals on the head to reflect its history and included four staff sections to engrave the college’s charisms.

Meharry Medical College wanted three medals on the top of its 38-inch tall shiny brass and dark walnut mace to angle inward like a pyramid.

This 54-inch tall cherrywood and

silver-plated brass mace allows Three Rivers Community

College to show off its seal as well as

the seals of the two colleges from which

it was formed.

Lincoln University has a uniquely shaped medal and needed a mace to accommodate it. Medallic Art Company designed this 48-inch tall dark walnut and brass mace to fit that need.

Craven Community College liked our classic style mace, then added an engraved brass platform carrying the college name and six brass banners detailing its core beliefs to this 36-inch cherrywood mace.

The University of La Verne wanted

to portray a historic building

on campus in the bronze medal

mounted on this 42-inch tall

mahogany mace with brass accents.

Santos wood was Harvard’s distinctive choice for this 20-inch

baton with silver accents.

Ordering custom dies creates a unique look for the top of your mace or macette, as North Shore Community College did for this 17-inch cherrywood macette to the left. Or ask about customizing one of our stock medallions with a deep-route engraving of an image or motto, as Paine College chose to do for this 17.5-inch natural walnut macette to the right. This 41-inch-

tall mace is a popular style because it allows schools to display several symbols or images, as Oblate School of Theology did.

The American University of Nigeria chose this 42-inch-tall all-brass mace to showcase its 5-inch diameter medal.

These classic mace designs are simple yet stately for institutions needing to be prudent with their spending. Make them your own with a custom medal or optional engravable banners. The mace on the left is 42 inches tall, while the one on the right is 30 inches tall.

The University of the Rockies wanted to make a simple- yet-bold statement by choosing this 22-inch natural walnut and brass baton.

This 12-inch all-brass

macette is a miniature

version of our full-size all- brass mace.

head Styles Many institutions create a medal or several medals to adorn the top of their maces or macettes. These medals often contain the seal or logo and other images that represent the school’s history, other campuses or academic disciplines. Some institutions top their maces with the Flame of Knowledge and others have topped their maces with buildings, religious, or other significant symbols.

Staff StylesThe staff of your mace or macette can be very modest or as ornate as you can imagine.

Depending on the style staff you choose, you can add engravable metal sections (or banners) to engrave your institution’s beliefs, leaders, donors, academic programs, or separate campuses. Some institutions have used larger staff sections to engrave designs that simply enhance the beauty and dignity of the mace.

Foot StylesThe final touch on your custom mace or macette should reflect the overall style. The foot can be made of metal or wood to carry out the look and function you need. Your Medallic Art representative can help you determine the best foot style for you.

Get Started EarlyBecause of the level of customization and attention to detail required to craft your mace or macette, it is best to begin working on the design at least two months in advance. Call a Medallic Art Company design consultant today to help get you started building a mace to add to the legacy of your institution.
