This trek takes us into the biblical tales of lost cities, hidden amongst

the jebels and wadis of the Arabian desert. Our challenge from the

shores of the Dead Sea, deep into the desert and the stunning

hidden city of Petra, has us spending time under the stars. We

experience the profound silence of the desert as Moses, Lawrence

of Arabia and camel trains have for centuries.

It rarely rains in this region, so we can expect hot and dry

conditions. We will wake for breakfast before sunrise so that we

can begin the challenge in cooler temperatures.

The terrain on the challenge is varied, and follows ancient rocky

paths through the Petra mountains and desert tracks. The terrain

will vary between mountain tracks and hard desert trails.

DAY 1 DEPARTURE

We depart London on our flight to for the Jordanian capital

Amman. On arrival we transfer a couple of hours south to

our hotel in Dana. Tonight we have a briefing on the challenge

ahead and a welcome meal of Jordanian delicacies before

relaxing after our long journey.

DAY 2 DANA VILLAGE TO FEYNAN

We trek from Dana at 1200m altitude, heading west into

Dana valley dropping steeply at first before descending

through the Dana Biosphere Reserve and the eco-lodge at

Feynan. From the irrigated gardens around Dana to the

scorching sand dunes of the Great Rift Valley, today’s walk

takes you through one of most dramatic and diverse

landscapes in the whole region. we are likely to see Griffin

Vultures, hyrax and copper-blue lizards and if you’re lucky a

glimpse of an ibex or a desert fox.

DAY 3 FURON RAS AL FEID

We leave Wadi Feynan and start on our trails towards Furon.

As we pass the entrance to Wadi Ghweir you'll climb up

through the mountains on a steep and challenging section of

the trek, but extremely rewarding with stunning and

wonderful views towards the fascinating Wadi Araba Desert.

The trail leads up into the mountains through a dramatic valley

and in the afternoon we reach the camp set up by our crew

Bedouin crew.

DAY 4 GBOR WHEDAT

After a good breakfast we follow a path of Bedouin shepherd

trails contouring the Sharah Mountains. The terrain undulates

as we experience astonishing views on the most remote sec-

tions of the trail, trekking along infrequently travelled sections

that are harder to identify. Our expert guides will take us

through a myriad of trail options to safely lead us through the

peaks of black mountains overlooking the trail. An absolutely

spectacular trekking day to our camp at Gbour Whedat.

DAY 5 LITTLE PETRA

Today our second day on the trails we enjoy some of the

most un-spoilt and stark terrain with views over the Petra

Mountains. The closer we get to the ruins of Petra the more

sites that we come across. Our guides will give full explana-

tions of the sites that we pass on our trek including Ba’ajah

ruins, the Nabataeans wine and olive presses, water tanks,

wells and the rock carved facades, all before arriving at our

camp today close to Little Petra. This mini version of Petra is a

real treat as we spend our time discovering the ruins with far

fewer tourists than we will come across at the main Petra

sites.

DAY 6 PETRA For the highlight of our challenge we trek from our campsite

on relatively flat terrain to the 2000 year old city of Petra. The

vast complex stretches over several kilometres and was a

strategic centre for the old silk and spice routes which

crossed the Middle-East, Asia and Africa. Petra prospered for

centuries with a population of about 25,000 at the height of its

power. The Nabateans built Petra on a terrace pierced from

east to west by Wadi Musa (Moses) one of the places where

Moses struck a rock and ‘water gushed forth’. The valley is

enclosed by sandstone cliffs, veined with shades of red, purple

and pink, out of which the city’s monuments and temples

were hewn. On arrival at the site we climb for an hour up the

well-worn steps to the Monastery, Petra’s most awe-inspiring

monument. Tonight our hotel is a welcome delight and we

enjoy a celebratory meal to mark the end of an incredible

challenge.

DAY 7 DEAD SEA

Today we experience the last of the highlights of our time in

Jordan. After breakfast we transfer 3hrs to our Hotel on the

shores of the Dead Sea. Here at an altitude of minus 430m we

find ourselves at the lowest place on earth. We have a com-

pletely free day to enjoy floating in the salt waters of the

Dead Sea, having a mud bath spa session and generally relaxing

and recuperating from the last tough five days trekking.

DAY 8 RETURN HOME

Transfer to the airport in Amman for our flight home.
