4 500 kl/d capacity

Phase II at a cost of R14,200m needs to be completed – MIG funding

ADENDORP

Water Reticulation system requires upgrading

- capacity and ageing infrastructure

- ACIP funding required R6.6m

Waste Water Services – Requires new system to replace septic tanks and french

drains

• UMASIZAKHE

Extra storage and pumping capacity required – demand exceeding supply

HORSESHOE

Reconstruction of Water Reticulation System

- old cast iron pipes in use

- Pipes calcified reducing capacity

- Valves non operational

- ACIP R25,1m applied for

- Wastewater system – requires reconstruction – estimate cost R18.6m

- Old vitrified clay pipes – Root ingress

- Upgrade emergency Well Field Scheme – RBIG funding applied for – R30,0m

-

ABERDEEN

6 Boreholes yielding 1790 kl/day

Demand 2 300 kl/day

Sewerage

Oxidation ponds in use

Recently upgraded at a cost of R3,6m

Phase II needs to be implemented – MIG funding

applied for

THEMBALESIZWE Replace small Bore Sewer Reticulation system – MIG funding applied for R5,6m

TOWN Replace small Bore Sewer Reticulation System – ACIP funding applied for - R8,8m Reconstruct Water Reticulation System – ACIP funding applied for – R10,2m - Additional Water Supply, Quality and Storage Investigation – MIG funding to be applied for R6,2m - At present quality of water a problem - Most of water classified as class II according to SANS

NIEU BETHESDA

Water Supply

Reported as many as 60 private boreholes

New Treatment Works constructed (2012) 320kl/day

Fountain delivering 80 litres per second

Sewerage

Mostly septic tanks or soakaways

Full water borne planned

Treatment Works to be upgraded (2012/2013)

Upgrade WWTW to cater for additional housing

– waiting for ROD

- MIG funding approved (Cacadu District Municipality)

GENERAL ISSUES

1. Camdeboo Municipality have implemented a Water Conservation and Demand Management Programme

- Project commenced 2011/2012 with great success

- Further funding required to continue with project

2. Sustainable water supply for Karoo Cluster (Camdeboo, Baviaans, Ikhwezi and Blue Crane) needs to be solicited

3. Retention of staff – Engineers

- Electricians

- Fitters

- Process Controllers

- Mechanical Staff

4. Regulatory factors – over regulated

- believe in quality

- cost of complying

- water and wastewater master plans

- stormwater ingress to sewer systems

- implementation and monitoring of bore holes

– Groundwater management

– Resource Directed Measures (RDM)

5. Replacement of Assets – Especially vehicles and construction plant, treatment plants and reticulation systems – limited funds

6. Limited funding when applying for grant funding

- Municipalities do not have funding for “Social Component”

of grant

7. Control and Monitoring of Industries

- Implementation of By-Laws

- Especially Abattoirs

- No experience or qualified staff

8. Licensing of WTW, Boreholes, WWTW a slow process

- Applications are submitted without feedback.

9. On Positive side

- Grateful for support from RRU

THANK YOU
