Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Minister for Education, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari today inaugurated the first Architecture School in Kashmir at Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina. MLA Batamalloo, Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon and Principal Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Dr Yasmin Kawoosa were present on the occasion. The Minister also announced an auditorium for the Degree College and macadamization of roads in college. On the occasion, the Minister interacted with the first batch of 40 students who secured admis- sion in the architecture course. He asked students to avail all the opportunities available in the insti- tution and make name for them- selves in the field of architecture. Bukhari said that it was the dream of former Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to establish architectural institution in Kashmir. "Mufti Sayeed was keen to revive local architecture in private and Government sector. He believed that establishment of Architecture Schools in valley would lead to the revival of her- itage architecture," Bukhari said. Earlier, the Minister inaugurat- ed College of Nursing at Government College of Women, M.A Road, which was established at an estimated cost of Rs 3.39 crore. He inaugurated the College in presence of Minister of State for Education, Priya Sethi, Principal Secretary Higher Education, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon and Principal Gover-nment College for Women, Prof Shaheen Altaf. The Minister said that nursing is usually pursued by the students from South and North Kashmir and we want that students of Srinagar too opt for nursing cours- es. He said that nursing is a noble profession and it has global demand. The students have a great future in this profession and there are lot of jobs in this profession, he added. It was informed that the first batch of 60 meritorious students have already secured admission in the college. The Minister also announced the macadamization of roads in college and also released college magazine "The Pamposh". Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Sept 22: Expressing alarm over the decreas- ing green cover in Srinagar city, Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar today said the Government is taking up eco-restoration roads in the capital city in a mission mode with plantation and develop- ment of green spaces. The Minister was speaking at a meeting to review the implementa- tion of eco-restoration plan for roads. The meeting was attended by CEO Srinagar Smart City Project, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, Chief Engineer R&B, Abdul Hamid, Commissioner SMC, Dr Shafkat Khan, MD JKPCC, Dileep Thussu, Director ERA, Satish Razdan, INTACH state con- vener Saleem Beigh and other offi- cials. The Minister said over the years, the green cover has reduced considerably in the city and the trend needs to be reversed by developing road sides. He directed the officials to take help of experts and start eco-restoration plan at the earliest. Calling for taking inspira- tion from world's beautiful capital cities, the Minister said that one should treat city as a living space and it needs parks, flowers, trees, aesthetically designed places to prosper. "Cities like Tokyo and Washington DC are known for their cherry blossom, Amsterdam for river front, Paris for heritage buildings and so on. Fortunately we have everything but only development and maintenance is needed," said Akhtar. The meeting was informed that experts of R&B, horticulture, flori- culture and other departments will shortlist plants that will be planted on roadside, parks and river front to turn Srinagar into a green city. The Minister also directed the officials to keep a provision of a certain percentage of funds in every road project for beautifica- tion and aesthetically designing the road. Taking strong note of lack of maintenance of plant material and footpath on the roads, the Minister said that water tight mechanism like outsourcing of maintenance to private players will be explored to ensure every plant that is planted lives to bloom. The Minister also took note of the development of area under Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh fly- over. He directed the officials to utilize the space available in a sci- entific manner, develop the adjoin- ing heritage buildings, erect board giving history of the areas like Haft Chinar (Seven Chinars). He also called for taking steps for facade planning of the entire stretch adja- cent to the flyover. Villagers protest as accident victim dies due to non-availability of doctor Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Sept 22: Following death of an accident victim allegedly due to no timely treatment because of non-availability of doctors in nearby Health Centres, vil- lagers of Panara in Majalta tehsil held a strong protest demonstration against the Health Department. The protesting villagers blocked the National Highway and demanded stern action against the erring doctors. They also raised slogans against the Health Department and district administration. 10 year old Divyanshi Gupta, a student of 4th standard and daughter of Sandeep Gupta of Panara was hit by a speeding bus JK14B-3171 when she was crossing the road. The victim was immediately rushed to PHC Panara and then to CHC Majalta but due to non-availability of doctors at both the Health Centres, she could not be pro- vided the required medical aid. Thereafter, the family members shifted her to Military Hospital, Udhampur but due to excess bleeding, she succumbed to her injuries after some time. Agitated over death of the minor girl due to non availabili- ty of doctors at the Health Centres, the villagers and family members of the deceased held a strong protest demonstration. They also accused the adminis- tration of no action despite repeated demand of a speed breaker at the site, where the mishap had taken place. Later, Tehsildar Majalta Ved Parkash and SHO, Majalta Sajjad Haider reached the protesting villagers and pacified them by assuring to take up their issues with the concerned authorities. On their assurance, the pro- testers dispersed off and vehicu- lar movement was restored on the National Highway. Autonomous regional councils to avert trifurcation: Rana Excelsior Correspondent NAGROTA, Sept 22: Saying that elected autonomous regional councils for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh under the overall ambit of the State will be appropriate rebuff to voices of trifurcation, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today sought a serious consider- ation on the well-conceived Regional Autonomy Report for- mulated by National Conference. Minister for Education, Altaf Bukhari inaugurating School of Architecture at Abdul Ahad Azad Memorial Degree College, Bemina on Friday. 28 fresh dengue cases reported in Jammu region Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 22: The num- ber of dengue cases is rising sharply in Jammu region, with 28 fresh cases reported today, taking the number of people affected so far with this vector-borne disease in Jammu region to 116. According to official sources as on today, a total of 850 patients were tested for dengue out of which 116 cases were found to be positive and reports of 509 were found negative while result of 225 samples are still awaited. "No death has been reported due to Dengue so far", they added. Elaborating more, sources said that out of 116 Dengue cases, maximum 105 have been report- ed in Jammu district, two each in Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur districts and one each in Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda districts. They said that all 28 fresh cases which were reported today are from Jammu district. They further revealed that out of these 88 dengue patients, 80 were adults (46 males and 34 females) and 36 were children (21 males and 15 females). They said that so far Dengue has not claimed any life in Jammu region and most of the patients affected with the disease have returned to their home after successful treatment in various hospitals. The sources said that Health department is taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of Dengue. "The main cause of Dengue is stagnant water and the department is spreading aware- ness among the masses to prevent stagnation of water. The depart- ment has also sensitized its staff and Asha workers to combat the disease", they added. Chaman for probe into Rohingyas influx in Jammu Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Sept 22: Welcom- ing the Central move for tack- ling the Rohingyas problem, the former Union Minister, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has empha- sized the need for deep probing that who had been instrumental to bring these controversial ele- ments hundreds of kilometre away to this border State and made their stay in sensitive areas in and around this city of Jammu, What was their design and who had opened Madarassas for them to radicalize these for- eigners and also their sources of funding. Prof Gupta said that this is a serious matter that these unau- thorized immigrants have been provided ration cards, election voter cards and even Aadhaar cards as also electricity connec- tions whereas large a number of local people are still longing for such basic documents. Moreover how and who had managed the marriages of these foreigners with the local people, he added. He said that most of these foreigners had come to Jammu during the coalition of the National Conference and Congress both in State as also at the Center and no check was made even after the issue was raised by him in and outside the Assembly. Prof Gupta has voiced a note of caution over the manner in which the issue of these unau- thorized foreigners is being min- gled with the coming of Tibetan refugees as also those of Hindus from Pakistan and Bangladesh and attempts are being made to communalize the problem which clearly indicates that designs working behind this. He also demanded a probe that how thousands of unautho- rized constructions have come up around Jammu city especially along the Tawi and other areas. According to an estimate about 5000 unauthorized structures have come up in the recent years, mostly on the encroached forest and other land. Naeem for eco-restoration of roads in mission mode NIA again summons Geelani’s son Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Sept 22 : Nati- onal Investigation Agency (NIA) has again summoned Syed Naseem Geelani to its headquar- ters in New Delhi for question- ing. "He has been called again on September 25 to NIA headquar- ters, New Delhi," a sources said. Naseem, was first summoned and questioned by NIA from August 8 to 11. His second round of questioning was done from August 24 to 30. NIA is investigating an alleged funding case registered on May 30 this year. 28 fresh dengue casesreported in Jammu region

JAMMU, Sept 22: The num-ber of dengue cases is risingsharply in Jammu region, with 28fresh cases reported today, takingthe number of people affected sofar with this vector-borne diseasein Jammu region to 116.

SRINAGAR, Sept 22 : Nati-onal Investigation Agency (NIA)has again summoned SyedNaseem Geelani to its headquar-ters in New Delhi for question-ing.

"He has been called again onSeptember 25 to NIA headquar-ters, New Delhi," a sources said.

Naseem, was first summonedand questioned by NIA fromAugust 8 to 11. His second roundof questioning was done fromAugust 24 to 30.

NIA is investigating analleged funding case registeredon May 30 this year.
