We are fortunate to live and work in such a strong and supportive community. Continue your show of support by remembering to SHOP LOCAL! Shopping local boosts the local economy because more of the money you spend in your local independent business stays in the community than if you shopped on-line or out of town. Shopping local creates jobs. Small, local businesses are the largest employers nationally. When we support local shops and services, we are supporting the process of creating local jobs. Local business support community groups. Local businesses are more likely to support local events, schools, chari- ties and sports groups. When you shop at a local business you are in essence supporting your community. Shopping local supports the character of Land O Lakes/Lutz . No local business means higher taxes for everyone. Local businesses invest in Land O Lakes/Lutz. When we support local business, we support the future of our com- munity. Businesses owned by Land O Lakes/Lutz folks are less likely to leave the community and are more invested in our success. Supporting local business encourages investment . Research is stating entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities, like Land O Lakes/Lutz, that preserve and support independent and distinc- tive businesses. Local business offers choices. Over the long term, successful local businesses are able to supply products based on local needs, interests and demands rather than based on national sales strategies. Shopping local saves services. Private and public services tend to cluster around shops. As retail merchants disap- pear, so do services such as hairdressers, banks, restaurants, and other businesses. Shopping local saves you time and money. By not travelling to out of town shops, you are saving on fuel (money and the environment) and time. By buying local and what you need, you are saving money and reducing items that will just go to the landfill anyway! Shopping local is a habit that we could all benefit from! Greetings…… ……from the President

David Gainer

MISSION STATEMENT

To aggressively advocate for the interest of our diverse business community by promoting business advancement, economic growth and job creation.

October 2017 President’s Message I’m a proud resident of Pasco County. Our first responders, government officials, friends and neighbors all worked to-gether to insure the safety of our families during the impending arrival of Hurricane Irma. We are fortunate to live and work in such a strong and supportive community. Continue your show of support by remembering to SHOP LOCAL! Shopping local boosts the local economy because more of the money you spend in your local independent business

stays in the community than if you shopped on-line or out of town. Shopping local creates jobs. Small, local businesses are the largest employers nationally. When we support local

shops and services, we are supporting the process of creating local jobs. Local business support community groups. Local businesses are more likely to support local events, schools, chari-

ties and sports groups. When you shop at a local business you are in essence supporting your community. Shopping local supports the character of Land O Lakes/Lutz. Land O Lakes/Lutz friendly and authentic small-town

atmosphere is created by the people and the businesses. Our distinctive shops and services contribute to our quality of life and to the character of Land O Lakes/Lutz. Shopping local keeps these businesses here.

Shopping local increases our tax base. When you support and invest your day-to-day dollar in Land O Lakes/Lutz business you are contributing to our tax base which improves the services we all benefit from. No local business means higher taxes for everyone.

Local businesses invest in Land O Lakes/Lutz. When we support local business, we support the future of our com-munity. Businesses owned by Land O Lakes/Lutz folks are less likely to leave the community and are more invested in our success.

Supporting local business encourages investment. Research is stating entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities, like Land O Lakes/Lutz, that preserve and support independent and distinc-tive businesses.

Local business offers choices. Over the long term, successful local businesses are able to supply products based on local needs, interests and demands rather than based on national sales strategies.

Shopping local saves services. Private and public services tend to cluster around shops. As retail merchants disap-pear, so do services such as hairdressers, banks, restaurants, and other businesses.

Shopping local saves you time and money. By not travelling to out of town shops, you are saving on fuel (money and the environment) and time. By buying local and what you need, you are saving money and reducing items that will just go to the landfill anyway!

Shopping local is a habit that we could all benefit from! Warm regards, David Gainer Board of Directors, President 2017-2018

Welcome to the Central Pasco 500! The race we all win! Objective: Grow The Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce to 500 MEMBERS by June 2018

Rules of the Game There are two teams. The Blue Team is “B” for Board of Directors. The Red Team is “A” for Ambassadors. To begin, your position in the Chamber determines your team. All members of our Chamber are asked to participate in this Membership Race. Members (not on a team) that bring in New Members will draw from a bowl of red and blue chips. Whichever color they choose, that becomes their team and that team receives the point for the new membership. As the Race proceeds so will the cars on the track. Top Membership Racers (individuals) will be recognized on the racetrack board. Quarterly, we will announce Central Pasco 500 Champi-ons with Grand Awards at The Annual Awards & Installation Banquet 2018! Awards will be pre-sented to the winning team and the winning individual racer with the highest number of recruit-ed new members. Lots of recognition on social media and our Chamber newsletter, in addition to publicly at meetings and events. Taunting, mocking, bullying, teasing, wagers, competitive threats, and combative challenges are not only allowed but highly encouraged! There will be a glorious victory celebration for the winning team that may be equally humiliating for the losing team, so cheer on and encour-age your teammates!!! Your Marketing & Membership Director is available to call, follow up, speak with, visit, email or stalk any of your leads. You and your team will get points for any new members that are a re-sult of your leads. Ladies and Gentlemen! START YOUR ENGINES!!!

October Clerk’s Message for Chamber Newsletter

While the rest of the region braced for Hurricane Irma, local government agencies battened their

hatches, too – including your friends and neighbors who work for the Pasco County Clerk &

Comptroller. Our charge is straightforward and unrelenting: Collect, protect, and preserve the

swath of Pasco history under our jurisdiction. A direct hit by a Category 5 storm, as once seemed

likely, jeopardized all of that. Accordingly, in the days before Irma was forecast to arrive, we ag-

gressively prepared. Physical records in the thousands – criminal and civil court proceedings

(including evidence, requiring meticulous chain-of-custody tracking), financial services, and more

– were moved from multiple locations in Dade City and New Port Richey to the Office’s two ar-

chive records centers. Records that reside in those centers were protected by roll-down storm

curtains or wrapped in plastic sheeting. The microfilm storage room, containing history dating to

the mid-19th century, got similar treatment. To protect digital records and painstakingly crafted

systems, we shut down our in-house computer network. As a caution against storm-whipped dis-

aster, IT Department teammates screwed metal brackets into the door and door frame of the East

Pasco Government Center computer room. Teammates in every department protected sensitive

electronics, disconnecting, then wrapping computers, monitors, printers, and more in plastic

sheeting sealed with duct tape. We moved Office vehicles to high ground, preserving their histo-

ries with pre-Irma photographs against the need to apply for relief from FEMA. Through it all, our

Executive Team stayed connected with daily conference calls and text messages. We apprised

teammates of developments using a mass notification system that contacts members via text,

email, and telephone. We kept the public up to speed with regular alerts on Facebook and Twit-

ter. Clerk & Comptroller Paula O’Neil dashed from Tampa International Airport to a meeting of

County chiefs and emergency personnel Friday before Irma hit. The next day, she began 48

hours of duty at the Fivay High School shelter. In total, nine Clerk & Comptroller teammates

served at Pasco shelters. When the danger passed, even before many had electricity or running

water in our homes, we hastened to our work places to restore operations, stowing what could be

salvaged for the next emergency and preparing to reopen for business as quickly as possible –

which we did Wednesday, Sept. 13, a date that shall live as a well-earned triumph in Pasco

County Clerk & Comptroller history.

PASCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWSLETTER

October 2017

I invite all fishing enthusiasts to join us on Friday No-vember 3, 2017, for the inaugural Fishing for Families Saltwater Tournament. Check-in will be at Catches Wa-terfront Grill, 7811 Bayview Street in Port Richey, begin-ning at 8 a.m. This charity tournament will benefit Pasco Sheriff’s Charities, specifically the Family Support Net-work, the Pasco Sheriff’s K9 Association, and the Youth Fishing and Envi-ronmental Center. We are still taking registrations for both anglers and sponsorships. The cost for a single angler is $600 and includes breakfast, a boxed lunch with beverages, bait, tackle, a Polo shirt, gift bag, and an after-party at Catches Waterfront grill. A total of three anglers will be placed with fishing guides on each boat. Tournament participants must join their desig-nated fishing boat and guide; no personal watercrafts or boats will be per-mitted. There are also sponsorships still available and include a Gold Spon-sor for $3,000; a Silver Sponsor for $2,000; and breakfast and lunch spon-sors for $250. The organizations that will benefit from our fishing tourna-ment include the: Family Support Network, which is a networking group that connects agency members with the proper support for benefits, mental health, and other tools to succeed; Pasco Sheriff’s K9 Association, which provides support to county K9 teams; Youth Fishing and Environmental Center, a proposed outdoor and activity center for children Our fishing tour-nament will follow the guidelines of the Coastal Conservation Association of Florida, which is providing the judging. It will be a photo-based catch and release tournament with species including redfish, trout, and snook. We hope that you can join us for a day of great fishing and raising money for three worthy causes. For more information on the tournament, please con-tact Rick Cochran at [email protected] or by calling 727-514-8417.
