LANSING, MI – Accident Fund Holdings, Inc. is proud to announce that three of its operating companies – Accident Fund (which includes Accident Fund Holdings, Accident Fund Insurance Company of America and Third Coast Underwriters), headquartered in Lansing, Mich.; United Heartland, headquartered in New Berlin, Wisc.; and CompWest Insurance Company, headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif. – have each been selected as Best Places to Work in Insurance for 2013 by Business Insurance.

Business Insurance launched the Best Places to Work in Insurance program in 2009 to identify and recognize high-quality workplaces in the commercial insurance industry and honor them for creating workplaces that do a superior job of encouraging employees to thrive in a workplace they can love. The program, and subsequent recognition by Business Insurance and Best Companies Group, an independent workplace excellence research firm, is very prestigious within the insurance industry.

In order to make the Best Places to Work in Insurance list, each company must demonstrate that it meets or exceeds a minimum standard of excellence in a variety of employment-related metrics, measured against other employers in the insurance industry, as well as other companies nationwide. This information is drawn from a two-part survey conducted of all participating companies. One portion of the survey evaluates employees’ workplace experience and company culture, and the other gathers information on the employer’s benefits, policies, practices and other information.

“It is a huge honor to receive this recognition from Business Insurance for the fourth year in a row,” Liz Haar, CEO of Accident Fund Holdings, Inc, said. “Accident Fund Holdings and its subsidiaries have an excellent reputation for having a positive workplace culture based upon open communication, a commitment to inclusion and innovation, and family-like camaraderie. The authentic camaraderie in our workplace helps to create an environment in which people want to work.”An alphabetical list of the Best Places to Work in Insurance was released in the Sept. 4, 2013 issue of Business Insurance and the final report and detailed rankings by company type and size will be unveiled and published in the Oct. 21, 2013issue of Business Insurance.

Member Spotlight Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, established in 1980, is a nonprofit, community-based hospice serving 15 counties in South Central Indiana. Our Hospice is committed to providing care to individuals with an advanced illness, and we do not deny services to

anyone who qualifies for hospice services, regardless of medical diagnosis or ability to pay. As a nonprofit organization, services not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance or veteran’s benefits may be funded through memorial and private donations, foundations and grants, as well as by the United Way and the United Fund.

Our staff will gladly provide care to our patients and support to their families, whether they live in private residence, a long-term care facility or assisted living facility. Our Hospice also has a 14-bed Inpatient Facility in Columbus for patients who need special care to manage episodes of acute pain and other symptoms related to their illness or to provide for short-term respite care for their families.

As a Level One Partner in the We Honor Veterans Program, Our Hospice is committed to honoring each of our patients who have served in the military. Our Hospice coordinates a special certificate and pinning ceremony for each veteran in the presence of any family or friends who are able to attend. We are thankful for our veteran patients for their service to our country, whether serving in active combat or not, and for their families who have often had to endure long periods of separation during their service time.

At Our Hospice, we are proud to say that we work for our community! We live and work in the communities where we serve our patients. Our patients are our neighbors, our family and our friends. If you would like to know more about the services we offer, feel free to visit our website for more contact information. Members in the NewsDear Strand Fan:

The lights are OFF, the lights are ON. The week of September 16th was a big week for the Strand. We completed the long awaited switchover to our new power system. We know everyone is curious how this turned out. Warning, tech talk ahead!

The original plan was to have one meter feeding the theatre with 120/240 4 wire three phase power. Duke Energy informed us they could not provide a transformer with the capacity to handle our needs. We reconfigured our lighting dimmer rack from the three phase power to single phase.

Steve Dennis Electric removed a 200 amp three phase service installed in 1967 from the front of the theatre. Steve and Darin M. removed another 200 amp three phase service installed in 1975 from the rear of the theatre. We then removed the 400 amp single phase service we installed in 2010. Finally, they removed the 1916 100 amp service that has been doing its job for 98 years from the front of the theatre Good riddance!

When the old services were disconnected Monday, September 16th, it was discovered that the 1916 panel had a very bad connection that had been getting hot for decades. It made everyone breathe a sigh of relief.

We then fed power from the Strand Annex to one of our modern 200 amp panels. This gave us lights and power for tools. Our annex power is still being paid by our friends at Stage Door Graphics. When we are finished, the last step is to disconnect the 200 amp panel in the annex and power it from our system. Thank you Stage Door!

The demolition began. Every bit of old stuff was removed (not so gently). During this time Bob S., the head of maintenance at the Strand, a department of one who could use some help, built racks to mount the new electrical panels. Once all this was finished, the shiny new boxes started to appear. Under our stage we have a new 400 amp three phase panel and a new 400 amp single phase disconnect for our lighting system. In addition, there was another new 400 amp single phase panel joining our

existing twin 200 amp panels. Wow, that is a lot of goodies. Check our web site for pictures of these new items.

That brings our grand total to 400 amp three phase and 1200 amp single phase. Steve Dennis began energizing these new panels on Wednesday, September 18. While Duke was there, they moved the position of the wires from the pole. This will allow us clear access to the third story double doors for the installation of our theatre pipe organ. We take one step at a time!

It will require several weeks to install all our lighting circuits, lighting pipes and new outlets. We will also be upgrading several existing sections of wiring. When done it will be worth the wait. Thank you to all who have generously donated to the Strand so this could be possible. Thank you to the City of Shelbyville for their investment in our project. Thank you to Steve Dennis, Darin McIntire, Ron Bush and Bob Schlick who did all the heavy lifting to get this done. Time to cue “Lights Up!”

We had the honor of hosting several events for the Shelby County Arts Fest in September. We had a great time and hope everyone was able to get downtown to visit all the activities. The art show is still at the Grover Museum. Check it out.

The Strand is grateful to everyone who is a part of this special place. We enjoy helping our community grow and prosper. The Strand presents wonderful local, regional and national talent.

Thank you for your support. We hope to see you at the Strand! For more information, contact the Strand Theatre at (317) 421-ARTS
