• Transition is like a magnet, it attracts all the past problems.
• Make sure people understand the current and real problem.
• To make change, every level of the organization has to feel challenged. If employees feel like followers the change will fail.

• Leadership is more challenging today.• Leaders are caught between managers who
want changes right now.• Societal and technological changes are
constantly occurring around us.• Our roles at work, and at home, are also
constantly changing.• How do you take care of yourself under
these pressures?

• When management announces change decide what is actually changing.
• Figure out what will end for you.
• Figure out what will remain the same.

• Recognize the neutral zone and understand it is uncomfortable, but it will end.
• Find some quiet time to get away from the chaos of the neutral zone and do something for yourself.
• Take stock of your skills by making a list of your attributes.

• What are your life values?• What do you desire for yourself?• How do your abilities match your desire?• Can I learn something new?• Become a life-long learner.• Change with the times.
Keep Your Creative Juices Flowing • Eat lunch in a different place.• Rearrange your office.• Take a new route to school or work.• Volunteer, give back to the community.• Do something new, theater, hobby, etc.• Buy some new clothes, change your style.• Take a needed vacation.

• Plan a change in your life, don’t look back.
• Decide to show up and try something new.
• Be present, stay in the moment.
• Tell the truth, say what you think.

faster.• Technology, global competition, and
demographics will become more pronounced.
Conclusion• Managing change/transition will be vital.• The cost of poorly managed transition can
be remembered by the acronym GRASS.– Worker guilt.– Resentment.– Anxiety.– Self-absorption.– Stress.
Conclusion• Change + Human Beings = Transition.• There is no way to avoid it.• But you can manage it.• You have to make time to worry about
employee reactions.• Don’t leave behind a demoralized work
force.
