Types de liaisons dans les Polymres
Polymer chains have a carboncarbon backbone with hydrogen or other side groups.
Cross-links bond the chains tightly together. The strong carboncarbon bonds are shown as solid red lines.

Microstructure: Mode dempilement
Amorphous and crystalline regions in a polymer. Note
that the crystalline region (crystallite) has an orderly
arrangement of molecules. The higher the crystallinity,
the harder, stiffer, and less ductile is the polymer.

(c) Elastomers have occasional cross-
links between chains, but these are
far apart, allowing the chains between
them to stretch.
(d) Heavily cross-linked polymers like
epoxy inhibit chain sliding.
(a) Chains in polymers like polypropylene
form spaghetti-like tangles with no regular
repeating patternthat structure is amorphous or glassy. (b) Some polymers have the ability to form
regions in which the chains line up and
register, giving crystalline patches. The
sketch shows a partly crystalline polymer
structure.

Island, chain and ring structures of silicates
Each oxygen of silicate tetrahedron
has one electron available for
bonding
Produced when positive ions bond
with oxygens of the SiO44-
Mode dempilement dans les cramiques
Sheet structures of silicates:Si2O5
2-
Three corners in the same plane of
silicate tetrahedron are bonded to
the corners of three other silicate
tetrahedra.
Able to bond with other type of
structural sheets
Exemple:
Si2O52-+Al2(OH)4
2+ Al2(OH)4Si2O5
Silicate chaine structure. 2 of the 4 oxygen
atoms of the SiO44- tetrahedra are bonded to
other tetrahedra to form silicate chains

Figure2.1: The menu of engineering
materials. The basic families of metals,
ceramics, glasses, polymers and
elastomers can be combined in various
geometries to create hybrids.
Figure2.2: Examples of each material family. The
arrangement follows the general pattern of Figure
2.1. The central hybrid here is a sandwich
structure made by combining stiff, strong face
sheets of aluminum with a low-density core of
balsa wood.
