INTRODUCTION

In the past, construction sector couldbe managed easily due to abundant of materials and resources. However,

now, the resources have beendepleted. Therefore, the technologyused in the present constructionsector must be able to counter thisproblem. It has to be able to findalternatives for these depletingresources.

THE FUTURE TREND OF

CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY

The future technology in construction can be

seen from two aspect:

Method

Material

METHOD

In terms of design and

engineering

Integration of

components and high

cost of energy

Theenvironmental

conservation

Moreprefabricated

component

will be used

High energy cost will

foster mass production

of construction units or

modules

Project funding

High performance steel (HPS) which posses

high yield strength with good workability. The welding process of HPS requires little

heating.

Papercrete is a construction material which is produced bymixing recycled paper, water, cement and ordinary sand.

 Advantages:

lightweight (80% of air content) very good insulation

extraordinary strength

high tensile strength

low cost

difficult to burn

High performance concrete (HPC) is the latest trend inconcrete. HPC is a type of concrete which is produce fromsuperplasticsizer materials, retarders, fly ash, and silicate.

 Advantages of concrete:

high compression strength

high density

low permeability

better resistance better performance

high durability

high axial strength

Lightweight concrete density is 560 ± 1840kg/m³ whileordinary concrete density is 1920 ± 2240kg/m³depending on the type of aggregat. The compression

strength for lightweight concrete is not higher thanordinary concrete but its durability is similar.

 Advantage:

less use of structural steel reinforcement bars

small foundation

better fire resistance act as insulation material

Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) can be used assteel replcement. FRP can overcome concrete

cracking problem and steel bar erosion whichcould happen to reinforce concrete.

FRP is a composite material which made of fibrethat is deposited into polymeric resin. It becomesan alternative material to reinforcement steel bar for structure. FRP also has high tensile strength.
