A New Beginning

• Assyrians invaded Egypt and defeated the Kushite and Egyptian armies.

• After moving their capital to Meroe, the Kushites rebuilt their Kingdom

The Fall of Meroe

• Traders started to use Sea routes across the Red Sea

• No longer a center for trade, began to lose its importance

• People began to invade the Kushite towns and defeated them by 350 AD

• By the end of the 4th century the Kush civilization had fallen

Summary

• The Kushites built a new capital called Napata neat the fourth cataract

• In time the Kushites were able to take over Egypt, however Kushite rule in Egypt did not last long

• The Kushites founded a new capital at Meroe and Kush grew, gaining fame as a trade center

• When traders began to use sea routes, Meroe lost much of its power, importance and wealth
