R RURAL READINESS PROGRAM Trident Technical College (TTC) is a public, two-year insti- tution that provides quality education and promotes economic develop- ment in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Students can choose from more than 150 academic programs of study leading to associate degrees, diplo- mas and certificates.TTC is affordable and S.C. educa- tion lottery assistance can pay more than 50 percent of tuition costs for full-time students (lottery-funded tuition assistance amounts are subject to change). TTC’s St. Paul’s Parish Site serves as a catalyst for per- sonal, community and economic development by em- powering individuals through education and training. Noncredit continuing education courses are offered in the areas of information technology, healthcare, horticulture and welding. In addition, TTC can provide customized programs to improve the competitiveness and quality of area businesses. As a result of collaborative relationships with commu- nity and government agencies, additional opportunities and programs are now being offered at the site such as the GED program, literacy program for adults, training resources, job fairs, tax preparation clinics, dual cred- it for high school students, financial management and workshops in goal setting, resume writ- ing and financial aid. In addition, the community has free access to computers and computer training. The purpose of the Rural Readiness Program is to help citizens seek employment and improve their basic employability and/or academic skills through col- laborative partnerships, which will ultimately result in increased employment rates for the area. The Rural Readiness Program is a collaborative effort between County Councilwoman of District 8, Anna B. Johnson; Charleston County Governments; SC Works; Charleston County School District’s Office of Adult Education; Trident Technical College’s St. Paul’s Parish Site, the Towns of Hollywood and Ravenel, and various other key stakeholders. The Program’s objectives aim to: Increase secondary graduation/GED rates. Increase enrollment in post-secondary education and specialized training programs, establishing a skilled/professional workforce. SC Works serves as the “entry point” for the Rural Readiness Program with a satellite office located at the Ravenel Service Center. This office provides employ- ment services or refers citizens in need of high school credentials or further education and training in order to achieve gainful employment. If a citizen is in need of their GED or further education or training, referrals will be made to the Charles- ton County School District’s Office of Adult Education, or to Trident Technical College’s St. Paul’s Parish Site. Charleston Adult Education, in partnership with Trident Techni- cal College, is now offering GED classes in Ravenel. Classes are held at the St. Paul’s Parish Trident Technical College satellite site. Our dedicated instructors aim to provide a comprehensive GED preparation class geared towards adult learners. The GED Preparation Program helps adults improve upon their math, read- ing, and writing skills, and prepares learners for the GED examination. GED students will also have the opportunity to earn a WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate credential as part of the program. The WorkKeys Career Read- iness Certificate Program provides instructional and assessment services to adult learners needing em- ployability skill development for the purpose of job placement.
