AUTHOR VISIT

As part of the Great Book Festival organised by Mid-Coast Libraries we were fortunate to have Anna

Fienberg come and visit our school and talk to the students in Years 3-6. Anna has written many

books for children and is probably most well-known for the ‘Tashi’ series of books which has also

been turned into a series for Television. Anna spoke to the students about how she came up with ide-

as for some of her stories, read her picture book Monsters and the students were able to ask her

questions about her books and about being an author offering her some ideas and suggestions for

new books she may write.

HOW TO KNOW IF MY CHILD IS READY

FOR KINDERGARTEN

So what is it that you should be looking for in your

child to know if they are ready for kindergarten.

There isn’t a list of specific academic tasks that a

child should be able to perform to demonstrate

that they are developmentally ready to go to kin-

dergarten. Instead, you should keep an eye out for

the following behaviour; your child:

Can listen and pay attention

Can follow short strings of instructions

Cooperates with peers and adults

Can sit still without fidgeting for periods of

time

Has developed gross motor skills and coordi-

nation (but these will still be refining at this

age)

Has developed fine motor skills (but this will

still be refining at this age)

WHAT CAN YOU DO IF YOUR CHILD IS

NOT YET READY?

Give your child the opportunity to attend pre-

school education to develop these skills

Encourage interactions with both children

and adults

Speak to the school where you are enrolling

about your concerns

Seek support from your medical general

practitioner

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS STORYTIME

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held an-

nually by the Australian Library and Information As-

sociation (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written

and illustrated by an Australian author and illustra-

tor, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-

schools, childcare centres, family homes,

bookshops and many other places around the coun-

try. Now in its 19th successful year, it is a colourful,

vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of

reading and literacy, using an Australian children's

book that explores age-appropriate themes, and ad-

dresses key learning areas of the National Curricu-

lum for Foundation to Year 6.

Pictured below show Mrs Grieve and Mr Denton

having a lot of fun reading this years book ‘Alpacas

with Maracas’.

PICNIC FROM POSSUM MAGIC

KW and K/1G had a picnic yesterday just like Hush

and Grandma Poss from Mem Fox’s ‘Possum

Magic’. We have been having interesting discus-

sions about this text and our writing has been very

descriptive based on the texts characters.

SCHOOL CAMP DEPOSIT

The non-refundable deposit of $50 for the Great

Aussie Bush Camp excursion for Stage 3 stu-

dents is due tomorrow, Friday 31 May 2019.

This deposit will secure a spot for your child on

the excursion. Limited spots are available.

MAKING PAYMENTS ONLINE

The Department of Education have launched a

new online payment portal linked to our school’s

website to make it easier for you to pay for school

related payments. This is a secure payment page

hosted by Westpac.

Payments can be made for the voluntary school

contribution, excursions and other events that oc-

cur at our school. (payments for P&C and canteen

cannot be accepted online - this includes uni-

forms).

To make a payment online just go to our school

website (google Chatham Public School) and click

on “make a payment” (appears along the top on

the homepage). Follow the prompts to make the

payment via Visa or Mastercard.

Please clearly identify who the payment is for and

what the payment is for, for processing at the

school office.

LABELLING OF CLOTHING

We urge all parents/caregivers to please label all

of their children’s clothing. As we move into the

cooler months, many jumpers have already been

handed to lost property without a name. If stu-

dents clothing is labelled, this then allows the

school to return the lost items to their rightful own-

er.

EFTPOS is also available

for your convenience.

SEATBELTS INSTALLED IN BUSES

As part of Transport for NSW roll out and target and

having all buses seat belted by the end of 2020, Eg-

gins Comfort Coaches is in the process of replacing/

retrofitting buses with seat belts.

What this means is that any student occupying a

seat fitted with a seat belt is obligated by law to

wear the seat belt whilst traveling no matter the

length of the journey.

Eggins Comfort Coaches have developed a policy in

conjunction with the code of conduct to ensure com-

pliance of this and will be taking necessary steps to

ensure compliance and safety of all passengers.

Should you have any questions or require any fur-

ther information surrounding this matter, please do

not hesitate to contact Eggins on 6552 2700.

WEARING OF HATS

Please ensure your child has a school bucket hat in

their bag each day they come to school. Students

love to play out on our grassed areas but cannot do

so if they do not have their school bucket hat for sun

protection.

Pictured below are Jacob and Alex proudly wearing

school bucket hats.
