Dear Friend,

It is with great excitement that I reach out and invite you to imagine the future of Christian Home & Bible School.

We have a unique opportunity in our school’s history to launch a comprehensive campaign that will provide the necessary funding to bring our school and children’s home to a new level of excellence for future generations.

As we witness what God is doing on our campus and in our residential group homes, we want to invite you to join us on this incredible journey.

It is constantly at the forefront of our mind to provide a holistic education—Spiritual, Academic, Social, and Physical—to every child.

While CH&BS aims to be a leader in the pursuit of academic excellence and to be a safe haven for children, there is also a purposeful emphasis placed on the development of men and women of character.

In order to maintain these high standards of excellence, we must consistently strive to improve. Please join us now in Embracing the Mission.

For the children,

Dr. James E. Moore President

In 1945 the founders of Christian Home & Bible School could not possibly have imagined the ways in which the school and home have grown. Ordinary men and women had a dream to make an eternal difference based on the need for Christian education (Prov. 22:6) and the pursuit of practicing “pure religion” (James 1:27). The school began with fifty five students and the children’s home started with eight residents.

One of the most distinctive aspects about CH&BS is its dual nature. Since the beginning, CH&BS has been both a Christian school and a home for children seeking refuge from neglect and abuse or unfortunate family circumstances. Residential group homes, foster care, adoption services, and a single parent program are all part of this ministry. Instead of falling into the sad statistics of drugs and crime, these children have been given a chance to attend a Christian school and to grow up in a safe and loving environment.

Imagine…Embracing the Mission is a three-year campaign that is designed to provide the resources necessary for enhancing both the School and Children’s Home. The success of this campaign will require a genuine desire to make a difference in children’s lives and a steadfast belief that God—with His unlimited resources—will show us the way and provide the means.

imaginethe Vision

“Three things keep me motivated, and my heart directed, to the work at CH&BS. I have unwavering trust and confidence in the leadership team and the direction they are guiding CH&BS; the passion that permeates the entire faculty and staff to give their lives in serving children; and

the mission of educating for life and eternity. Not content to rest on their laurels, CH&BS has chosen to embrace the future and move forward with foresight and leadership. With a focus on endowment, debt reduction, and scholarships, the Imagine Campaign will enable CH&BS to prosper and grow for years to come. I’m excited to be a part of that future, and hope that you will join us to Imagine what lies ahead.”

Wayne Sigley Campaign Co-Chair

Dennis Stults Chairman, Board of Trustees

“For over 40 years, my wife and I have been associated with CH&BS in some capacity. The current leadership has brought stability and growth

while demonstrating great vision for the future. The Imagine Campaign will enable CH&BS to continue meeting the needs of children and families well into the 21st century. On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, I want to convey our excitement and ask you to support the Imagine Campaign.”

Why is it necessary to have such a campaign? The clearest answer is that there are times when more resources are needed to fulfill the vision that God has given. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians stating, “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6). Believing such a statement to hold true for CH&BS, we are confidently and prayerfully seeking to improve and expand our facilities and programs so that the families who have chosen a Christian education and Christian residence will continue to be blessed.

As the pace of technological change accelerates, it is imperative that we provide the tools necessary for our students to excel. The “21st Century Learning Initiative” combines cutting edge technology with innovative teaching methods that will encourage each student to develop his or her strengths to their full potential.

“For as long as I can remember, God has always put children close to my heart. My love for them created more than just a commitment to provide help; it became my Christian duty.

From the first time my husband Mike and I visited Christian Home & Bible School, we felt a connection to the work. We believe that the Imagine Campaign will open up huge opportunities for CH&BS to touch the lives of more children and families. Let me encourage you to “Embrace the Mission” of CH&BS and Imagine what God will do with your gift.”

“I have been connected to CH&BS for nearly 60 years as an orphan, graduate, and employee. There has not been a time in my life that I have not been involved in

the work in Mount Dora. I count it a privilege to be selected to serve as the Honorary Chair and I urge you from the bottom of my heart to join us as we embark on the Imagine Campaign.”

“Celeste and I feel very blessed to have discovered CH&BS for the education of our son. The all inclusive curriculum, exceptional student/teacher ratios, and full spectrum of athletic programs made CH&BS an easy choice for us. All this in addition to a family oriented, Christian based environment!”

Embracing the Mission requires a campus characterized by beauty, function, and safety. God has provided seventy wonderful acres for our campus. With this Campaign, both the School and the Children’s Home will be expanded, renovated, updated, and improved. Improvements include:

Classroom Repairs: Responsible stewardship requires the periodic renovation of existing facilities to sustain their usefulness. Such repairs will renew facilities to equip the next generation of students.

Cottage Renovations: Years of use have necessitated some much needed improvements to both Burton and Hamilton cottages. Kitchen renovations, including appliances, cabinetry, and storage space are planned for the Lugar Cottage.

Science Laboratory Restorations: The science building is in need of new lab furniture, equipment, and storage for safety and stability. Renovation of the two wet laboratories and one organic chemistry laboratory will include installation of counter tops and fume hoods, and access to compressed air, natural gas, and water services.

Landscape Beautification, Improved Signage, and Increased Lighting: The setting for growth ideally addresses aesthetic qualities as well as issues of safety and function. Students currently gather around park benches and the gazebo for outdoor Bible studies and club meetings, and we want to continue to encourage this positive, engaging environment. As our programs and community outreach increase, the need for improved signage and increased lighting across our 70-acre campus has become apparent.

21st Century Learning Initiative: Technological advancements are rapidly changing the classroom environment. Laptops and SMART Boards are replacing textbooks and chalkboards. In order to keep pace, new technology will be installed in every classroom. Additional computer courses and state-of-the-art technology will enhance the student learning experience.

The Board of Trustees endeavors to keep tuition at an affordable level without sacrificing the high standards upon which CH&BS was built. Making a private Christian school successful requires a delicate balance of affordability and sustainability. Donations enable us to make up the difference between what tuition covers and actual operational costs.

Day-to-Day Operations: We are committed to providing every student with appropriate support in terms of physical environment, certified teachers, challenging courses, and cutting-edge learning materials. Rising costs and the necessity for well-maintained facilities contribute to the difficulty of a balanced budget.

Expand and Strengthen Social Services: Mount Dora Children’s Home is committed to providing a place of healing that is safe and nurturing. Through additional operational support, we will be able to hire house parents and accommodate more children. And, we can expand the Single Parent Program, which is dramatically improving the lives of single mothers and their children.

Staff Enrichment: Faculty and support staff who are motivated to uphold the mission of the school and who sacrificially serve are deserving of the best support and training available. It is essential that our teachers attend workshops, professional conferences, and graduate courses to constantly enhance their teaching and administrative skills. In order to attract and retain quality teachers and professionals, CH&BS must increase teacher/staff pay and stabilize a strong benefits package.

Endowment ProgramIt has been said that there will be two kinds of non-profit institutions in the future—those that are no longer in existence and those that are endowed. A strong endowment will provide CH&BS with a secure and stable future.

Debt ReductionDebt reduction is not always a glamorous topic of discussion, but in the current economic times, it is a necessary one. We have incurred debt to build residential group homes, purchase assets, and make campus improvements. It is biblical that we are to be good stewards of our money and of our possessions (Mt. 25:20-21). God has blessed CH&BS, and we want to continue to do His will by being good stewards of our resources.

“I grew up as an orphan, and Sherry and I have an adopted son, so we have a special place in our hearts for CH&BS. It is a unique place,

in that it’s both a children’s home and an outstanding Christian school. We were blessed to find CH&BS upon moving to Florida and are excited to

be a part of the Imagine Campaign.”

Scholarship Fund: Need-based finan-cial assistance is necessary for some students and families to afford a CH&BS education. Increased funding in this area will be a great blessing to more children and families, enhancing the diversity, quality, and culture of the CH&BS student body.

Children’s Home: Every child lives in the Children’s Home without charge. They are provided with food, shelter, clothing, and are enrolled in the outstanding Christian school located on the same campus. Professional counseling and therapy sessions are provided weekly and serve as a vital part of each child’s healing. Christian house parents, social workers, and teachers create an environment where these children experience compassion, love, and a relationship with God.

“‘Home is where the heart is’ is the only way to describe what CH&BS means to me. It is truly my home away from home. Just as my sister before me, and my brother behind me, I have grown and matured under the guidance of Christian mentors and teachers. God has blessed me with an amazing environment to develop my talents and abilities.”

Every year CH&BS track athletes win prestigious honors. Our boys teams have won the FHSAA 1A Track & Field State Championship, and several students have been named Male and Female Runners of the Year for Lake/Sumter County. However, track and field meets have not been hosted at CH&BS in recent years due to substandard facilities.

Outdoor Track: The aging and cracked asphalt surface will be replaced with a modern, rubberized, 8-lane track. Additionally, the areas for field events, i.e. pole vault, long jump, and discus will be upgraded to FHSAA standards.

Field Refurbishing: In order to maximize the safety and performance of our athletes, we will rebuild the drainage system and lay new sod. This will also reduce maintenance and upkeep of the field.

It is important to note that the stadium is used for more than just athletic events. It is used for community service and family gatherings such as Jump Rope for Heart, Family Fun Day, Field Day, summer sports camps, and “walk-a-thons.”

Christian Home & Bible School inspires a passion to learn, courage to lead, and a commitment to serve. It is a common misconception to think that your gift does not matter. Please know that God will work wonders through your generosity. “‘Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’” (Mal. 3:10) We are asking you to imagine the difference you will make in the lives of countless children and families through your participation in this campaign.

Ways to GiveCampaign Plan: To keep the program organized, various groups designed by name, such as the Board of Trustees, faculty/staff, parents, grandparents, alumni, churches, and community supporters will be asked to become involved at certain times. Each group will have its own goal, structure and leadership. As much as possible, solicitation will take place face to face or via the telephone rather than through the mail.

Three-Year Campaign: A strength of the campaign will be the three-year (36 months) commitment opportunity that will be made available to each donor. Such a time period allows the donor to plan for a gift over a longer period and hopefully, will result in each donor being able to provide a larger gift.

One-Time Gifts: One-time gifts will be appreciated, however, long-term commitments are also being sought.

Gifts Other Than Cash: Besides cash, one may give securities, real estate, personal property, or gifts-in-kind such as construction materials, equipment, or other usable items.

If you would like information on how to optimize your gift through the most tax-efficient selection of assets and methods of giving, please contact our Development Office.
