COURSE NAME: Certificate IV in Ageing Support

Course overview This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services;

either in residential, home or community based environments. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs

within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and

review of individualised service planning and delivery.

Workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and have limited responsibility for the organisation and the

quantity and quality of outputs of others within limited parameters.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must successfully complete all units of competency and at least 120 hours

of work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

When is the next course? Start Date: Tuesday 3 July 2018

End Date: Monday 17 December 2018 Classes delivered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays most weeks

Class times 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Enrolments close: Monday 25 June 2018

What resources are available to me? All resources are costed and included in detail on the fee schedule on the Albury Wodonga Community College

website. You will be provided with all required resources, work booklets, a polo shirt for work placement, and welcome

pack. There are no hidden costs; fees are detailed on the Schedule of Fees which is available on the AWCC website

(www.awcc.edu.au).

How can I complete this course? At Albury Wodonga Community College we strive to deliver quality courses that are convenient to your needs. This

course is offered on campus with a component of work placement to be completed in an Aged Care service.

What assessments will I be required to complete? You will need to:

Attend and participate in all classes unless otherwise arranged with the Department Coordinator.

Competently complete all assessment activities including allocated tasks, projects, scenarios, case studies, questions and work books.

Complete 120 hours of practical Work Placement with an Aged Care Service Provider.

As an adult learner you are to raise any concerns or problems that you may have in regards to completing any aspect of the course as soon as possible with your Department Coordinator or Trainer/Assessor to ensure actions can be put in place.

What is required for Work Placement? As a compulsory component of this course you will be required to complete 120 hours of work placement in an Aged Care Service. The Department Coordinator will organise your placement. Placement will commence approximately eight weeks from the course commencement.

Prior to industry placement, students will be required to complete a series of practical simulated tasks that will provide students with hands-on practical implementation of skills before entering a workplace environment outside the classroom. The specific aims of placement are to:

Apply knowledge and skills learned during your studies in the workplace;

Become familiar with employers’ expectations;

Increase your employment options and employability skills; and

Broaden your understanding of the industry.

What costs are involved? Course fees are detailed in the Schedule of Fees located on our website (awcc.edu.au). Please read the information below to help determine if you might be eligible for state funding through the *Skills First incentives. Course costs include all materials and resources. A deposit of $250 is required at the time of enrolment to secure your placement in the course. Our Student Handbook contains information relating to non-refundable deposits.

Am I eligible for Government subsidised training? The Victorian 'Skills First' and New South Wales 'Smart and Skilled' programs provide respective government subsidised training in vocational training courses to eligible individuals.

You’re able to check your eligibility status by accessing the state funding eligibility estimators on our website (www.awcc.edu.au). However, it should be noted that these on-line eligibility checks provide a general outcome based on minimum information input. The full criteria provided by you at the time of your pre-training review will accurately determine if you are eligible for either Victorian or New South Wales funding.

Your eligibility will be assessed on an individual basis and confirmed on enrolment.

What support will be available? Each course has a dedicated Department Coordinator to support you through your course. In addition to this, you will

have one or more Trainer/Assessors who teach, assess and support you throughout your course.

All our staff are highly qualified Trainer/Assessors and specialists in the field they are teaching so they can offer you the most current and comprehensive knowledge to complete your course in readiness for industry.

Are there any prerequisites?

The answers you provide will be discussed with the Coordinator at your Pre-Training Review Interview.

Pre-Training Review: These are conducted with every student to determine their competency and suitability to complete the course. Should learning assistance be required individualised plans are put in place for students.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy: Under the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) Standards, our organisation is required to assess the language, literacy and numeracy skills of all prospective students in order to determine the LLN skill level each prospective student has according to the demands of the course program the student is seeking to undertake. This accredited LLN tool will be completed as part of the Pre-Training Review.

Am I able to obtain credit transfers or recognition of prior learning? Yes. They will advise you of the process and what you need to provide in order to receive these.

What next? Your responses will be reviewed by the Department Coordinator. After receipt of your application, you will be

contacted to arrange a Pre-Training Review with the Department Coordinator.

All students will be required to complete an accredited LLN skill level assessment as part of their

Pre-Training Review process.

enrolment.
