COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS

Interested in community projects? Here are a few ideas to consider.

! Anti-Ouch Pouch - This is a soft pillow designed to be worn snugly against the underarmarea to cushion the area after breast surgery or during radiation treatment. This is a wedgeshaped pillow that gently holds the arm away from the body when the user is standing. The strapholds the pillow in place without having to use sore muscles to hold it in place. Moreinformation is available at http://fcs.tamu.edu/clothing/4h/community-service/index.php. These pouches can be donated to the local hospital, nursing homes, individuals or cancer centers.

! Sew Much Comfort (SMC) - This is a non-profit organization that makes adaptive clothingfor our injured service men and women. SMC sews and alters clothing for injured militarypersonal that find it difficult to fit into normal clothing due to injuries. These conditions mayrequire prosthetics, casts and large fixators that are too bulky for normal clothing to fit over. SMC donates clothing to every major military hospital in the USA and a hospital in Germany. The project includes collecting boxers & t-shirts that can be sent to SMC seamstresses to beadapted for injured soldiers. At this time, there is a huge need for t-shirts - both short & longsleeve. All clothing must be new and current design.
