Acetals and ketals (I) are used as precursors for organozinc carbenoids which are trapped by cyclohexene giving a mixture of diastereomers (III) and (IV). In the absence of trapping agents, a direct conversion to alkenes (VI) and (VIII) is obtained. The results show a dominating role of the acetal in the reaction. While acetal (Va) gives good yield, the analogous (Vb) is almost inert. (MOTHERWELL, W. B.; O’MAHONY, D. J. R.; POPKIN, M. E.; Tetrahedron Lett. 39 (1998) 29, 5285-5288; Christopher Ingold Lab., Dep.
