Welcome to my last newsletter article as President! I want to thank

everyone for a wonderful school year . Our children had a very successful year.

PTA and Student Council held some very successful events for the children and

their families. Everyone “pulled together” when there were tasks to be com-

pleted. I can't believe how fast the time has gone!

I am sure that you all join me in wishing our retiring teachers well.

Many thanks to Mrs. Reddish, Mrs. Moskal and Mrs. Krause for their endless

efforts to bring our children a quality education and happy memories to take with

them.

A Message from the Principal

CHESTNUT NEWS

Hello Chestnut Families:

As we wrap up the school year I wanted to take a minute to highlight three outstanding educators that will be retiring at the end of this

school year. They are Mrs. Moskal in the 4th grade, Mrs. Reddish in the 5th grade and Mrs. Krause in the 6th grade. I have had the honor

and privilege to work with these teachers the past three years.

Mrs. Moskal – Mrs. Moskal has dedicated 35 years to the profession. She has been teaching in North Olmsted, her entire career . She has

taught grades 2nd through 6th throughout her career. The majority of her time was spent at Spruce. There she taught grades 3rd through

6th, for 26 years. In addition to the last 8 years at Chestnut, she taught one year at Maple.

There are many things she will miss as she begins a new journey. Mrs. Moskal stated that she will miss meeting new students and catching

up with past students. She will miss the challenge of making school and learning fun for students. She will miss reading their “Proud Jour-

nals”. Mrs. Moskal said, “They write the best things when it’s about themselves!” Mrs. Moskal enjoyed all the little moments, little suc-

cesses, little accomplishments students did throughout the years. Of course, she will miss adding new “ladybugs” to her collection when

she would set- up her classroom each year. We will miss her at Chestnut.

Ms. Reddish – Mrs. Reddish has dedicated 41 years to the profession. She has been in North Olmsted for 40 of those years!! Mrs. Reddish

has taught grades, 3, 4, 5 and 6th throughout her career. She has taught in many buildings. Mrs. Reddish taught at Butternut, Chestnut,

Forest, Maple and Spruce.

As she looks forward to her journey in life there are things she will miss. She is going to miss her students, her teaching partner and col-

leagues in the building. Mrs. Reddish plans to volunteer at Southwest General Hospital and bring joy to those who are ill! She may also

volunteer her time at Berea Children’s Center. She has assured me her other retired friends have been waiting for her and plan on filling her

time. She will be greatly missed at Chestnut by all!

Mrs. Krause - Mrs. Krause has dedicated 13 years to our school district. Prior to her coming to North Olmsted she had many experiences

in other districts. She worked in Elyria, North Ridgeville High School, and Metro Catholic Parish School. Mrs. Krause has been tutor for

both hearing and visually impaired students in Lorain County and 4th grade teacher in Cleveland parochial. In North Olmsted, she has been

an ELL tutor and a second grade teacher at Spruce, a fifth grade teacher at Butternut and currently a sixth grade teacher at Chestnut.

Mrs. Krause has stated that she will miss the interaction with the students. The “AHA!!” moments students have when they “get it”. She

plans to travel to see her granddaughter, watch “Tinkerbelle” fly ,and continue to be involved in theatre in Ohio and begin theatre in Florida.

She will be missed at Chestnut.

LEVY UPDATE

Board Meeting – Monday, May 24th

@ 7 p.m.

Parent Volunteers – Volunteer Meeting May 24th

@ 6 P.M. (Middle School)

As you may have heard Mrs. Smith has created a parent volunteer group for the levy campaign. This is part of a grass roots effort to help

pass the levy in August. If you are interested in providing your help please plan to attend an important meeting on Monday, May 24th

at

6 P.M. The meeting will be held at the Middle School. I hope you can get involved for this worthy cause.

I can’t believe we are wrapping up another school year. I want to thank all of you for helping make a Chestnut a great place to be. I have

enjoyed working with our PTA Board this year. Mrs. Truax, our current President, will be stepping down at the end of this year. I want to

give her a “special thank you” for her leadership, organization and effort all school year. She did a great job!

As always, please let me know if there is any way I can help you. You can reach me at [email protected] or call me at: 440-779-3641.

Thank you,

Mr. Moore

6th Grade Promotion Celebration Our 6th grade students will be leaving Chestnut and heading to the Middle School.

PTA is sponsoring a 6th grade “promotion” party to be held on Friday, May 28th.

We will be supplying a picnic lunch, soft drinks, cake & popsicles. We are looking for

volunteers who would be able to help set-up , assist during the party, and clean-up.

Don't worry if you are unable to volunteer on that day because we also need some

“behind the scenes” help. If you would be willing to fill water balloons, cut up water-

melon, donate paper products, donate bags of ice, donate a box of freeze pops , or

make a monetary donation (so that we may purchase items).

If you would like to help, please contact Lynda Hudson at: 734-3810.

The North Olmsted Middle School PTA is seeking many enthusiastic, dedicated 6th

grade parents who would like to volunteer a few hours of their time as chairing a committee or

a board position for the next school year of 2010-2011. As you may know, our PTA sponsors ac-

tivities to raise funds to purchase books, media equipment, etc. for our students, but, most im-

portantly you will be a part of your child's middle school years.

By attending our PTA meetings you learn what's happening in our school regarding activities,

classes, teachers and throughout the entire North Olmsted School District. Even if you work

full-time or part-time or a stay at home mom, the PTA welcomes you !!! Please consider be-

ing a part of North Olmsted Middle School PTA for the school year of 2010-2011 as it

will be time well spent!!!

Thank You!!

Company Donations Company Donations 4 easy ways you can help our school earn money

There are several companies that will give us money or educational items if we participate in their programs. These

are super easy ways for you to help us make our school year a huge success. Please contact the chairperson if you

have any questions on the following programs.

Giant Eagle-Apples for the Students- Every time a registered supporter shops at Giant

Eagle using their Giant Eagle Advantage Card, they earn points for your school. The

points are saved and later redeemed by the school for educational tools. Points are auto-

matically credited to your school through the Giant Eagle card. To support our school reg-

ister at www.gianteagle.com or call 1-800-474-4777. Our School ID# is 3501.

Target – Take Charge of Education- Visit Target or www.Target.com and apply for their “Red” card or a

Target Visa card. Then enroll in the Take Charge of Education program on the Target website and our school

will receive a check for 1% of purchases made at Target and ½% of purchases made elsewhere with your Tar-

get Visa. This is a great way to help us earn funds to support our programs.

Box Tops for Education - Box Tops for Education can be located on many products. Clip these and save

them for our contests. Several times throughout the year we will have a contest and will ask you to send in

your box tops. Each box top is worth 10 cents. We can also earn more money by shopping through the Box

Tops for education website. For more information on how you can help our School, “check out” the

Box Tops website at: www.boxtops4education.com.

GFS Marketplace Welcomes Chestnut PTA to the “Fun Funds Program”- Information will be sent home on

how you can enroll for a FREE FUN FUNDS membership card. Your purchases at a GFS store will generate a

“rebate” check to our PTA. (The closest GFS Marketplace is east on Lorain Road by “Baker’s

Square”.

Thank You for your participation in the

“Box Tops” for Education pro-

gram this year! Thanks to all

your “clipping efforts” Chestnut PTA has earned over $375.00

as of today, for this school year! Please keep clipping and sav-

ing those box tops over the summer. (You may still drop them

off in the office until the end of the school year….or save them

to turn in next year.)
