Today happens only once. Today is not the same as yesterday or tomorrow. In the

Gospel of Luke Jesus says, ?Today, this Scripture passage is ful fi l led in your hearing

(Luke 4:21).? The Scripture passage that was ful fi l led on the day that Jesus spoke

was, ?The Spiri t of the Lord is upon me; therefore he has anointed me. He has sent

me to bring glad t idings to the poor, to proclaim l iberty to captives, recovery of sight

to the bl ind and release to prisoners, to announce a year of favor from the Lord"

(Luke 4:18-19).

For disciples of Jesus, his words spoken on that day mean that there is something about today to always keep

in mind. Today we are baptized people. Today we are, as Paul says, ?the Body of Christ" (I Corinthians 12:12-20).

Today, we too can say the Spiri t of the Lord is upon us because through our baptism he has anointed us.

As those baptized and anointed, today holds possibi l i t ies. Today, somebody can be given the glad t idings of

knowing that we wi l l stand wi th them in thei r suffering. Today, someone who is imprisoned by gui l t can be set

free by our reminder that God?s forgiving love is always there. Today, a person who is a captive of prejudice can

be released by the care we take wi th our own att i tudes toward others. Today, those incarcerated by economic

injustice can be l iberated by our support of pol icies that support a more equal distribution of the world?s goods.

Today, those held captive by oppressive governments can be freed by our actions that support human rights

and respect for the digni ty of the human person. Today, those bl inded by confusion and doubt can be given

sight by our reassurance that questions are alright, that l i fe does have meaning and that we understand thei r

moments of confusion because we know our own.

What is today? Today, as i t always is for those baptized and anointed wi th God?s Spiri t , is

a day of hope, of possibi l i ty, of promise. Today, the measure to which we truly bel ieve

that is the measure to which this hope and promise wi l l be ful fi l led in our hearing.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAMChrist Cathedral Communi ty Outreach, in conjunction wi th Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, is having a food distribution service on the fi rst Saturday of every month. The next Saturday distribution wi l l be on February 2 at the Helping House from 10 am to 12 noon. Show up, sign in, and take your groceries home. Volunteers are needed before and during the hours of distribution. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mary Lou at 714-287-4124.

CATHOLIC NEWS / ANNOUNCEMENTSWE ARE ONE * 2019 PASTORAL SERVICES APPEALThe annual Pastoral Service Appeal begins this weekend at our parish. The PSA provides an opportuni ty for us to join together as one church fami ly in real izing our goals as wel l as join wi th Cathol ics throughout the Diocese of Orange to support ministries and services that benefi t our own parish as wel l as people al l over Orange County. This year?s diocesan goal is $172,000.00 which supports the work of the Diocese. We are exci ted to announce the plans for a new Youth Center in the Christ Cathedral Academy. The space wi l l need some changes. Through PSA we can fund the Youth Center project. Al l monies paid over the diocesan goal, wi l l be returned to the parish at 100%. Those monies wi l l be designated to our Youth Center Project.Next week al l registered parishioners wi l l receive a letter from Fr. Smith along wi th a brochure about PSA and a pledge envelope. Please prayerful ly consider how your fami ly wi l l respond to this cal l to carry on Christ?s work in our communi ty.

UNITY RESTAURANT OPENS ONCE AGAIN! Christ Cathedral?s Uni ty Restaurant wi l l open for a one-day event on Sunday, February 17 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hosted by our Hispanic Communi ty. Breakfast wi l l be served from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and we wi l l be serving your choice of tamales wi th a hot beverage (champurrado) or pozole wi th a drink. Lunch/dinner wi l l be from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Menu choices include taqui tos (4) or tacos (3) of carne asada, al pastor or chicken. The plate comes wi th taqui tos or tacos wi th a drink. Hoy ocurre solo una vez. Hoy no es lo mismo que ayer o mañana. En el Evangel io

de Lucas Jesús di jo, ?Esta Escri tura, que acabas de oír, se ha cumplido hoy (Lucas

4:21).? El pasaje de la Escri tura que se cumplió el día que Jesús habló era, ?El

Espíri tu del Señor esta sobre mí, porque me ha ungido para anunciar a los pobres

la Buena Nueva, me ha enviado a proclamar la l iberación a los cautivos y la vista a

los ciegos, para dar la l ibertad a los oprimidos y proclamar un año de gracia del

Señor" (Lucas 4:18-19).

Para los discípulos de Jesús, sus palabras de ese día signi fican que hay algo sobre

este día que siempre tenemos que tener en mente. Hoy somos gente bautizada. Hoy somos, como dice Pablo,

?el Cuerpo de Cristo" (1 Corint ios 12:12-20). Hoy, nosotros también podemos deci r que el Espíri tu del Señor

esta sobre nosotros porque por medio de nuestro bautismo Él nos ha consagrado.

Como esos bautizados y consagrados, el día de hoy t iene posibi l idades. Hoy, alguien puede recibi r las fel ices

noticias de saber que estaremos a su lado durante sus sufrimientos. Hoy, alguien que está encarcelado por

sentido de culpabi l idad puede ser l ibrado con recordarle que el amor perdonador de Dios siempre está al l í.

Hoy, una persona prisionera de prejuicio puede ser l iberada por los cuidados que tomamos con nuestras

propias acti tudes hacia otros. Hoy, esos encarcelados por injusticia económica pueden ser l ibrados por

nuestro apoyo a las pól izas que apoyan una distribución más balanceada de los bienes mundiales. Hoy, esos

detenidos por un gobierno opresivos pueden ser l ibrados por nuestras acciones que apoyan los derechos

humanos y respeto por la dignidad de la persona humana. Hoy, esos cegados por la confusión y duda pueden

ser dados la vista por nuestro consuelo que las preguntas están bien, que la vida t iene valor y que

entendemos sus momentos de confusión porque conocemos los nuestros.

¿Qué es hoy? Hoy, como siempre es para esos bautizados y consagrados con el Espíri tu

de Dios, es un día de esperanza, de posibi l idad, de promesa. Hoy, la medida en que

realmente creemos es la medida a que esta promesa y esperanza se cumpli rán en

nuestros oídos.

SOMOS UNO - 2019 CAMPAÑA PARA LOS SERVICIOS PASTORALESEl PSA anual ya comenzó en nuestra parroquia esté fin de semana. El PSA brinda la oportunidad de que nos unamos como una fami l ia eclesial para darnos cuenta de nuestras metas y de uni rnos como catól icos a lo large de la Diócesis de Orange, para apoyar los ministerios y servicios que benefician a nuestra propia parroquia, así como a muchas personas en todo el Condado de Orange. Este año nuestra meta diocesana es de $172,000.00 que dará apoyo al trabajo de la Diócesis. También, nos da mucho gusto en anunciar el nuevo proyecto para un Centro para Jóvenes Adolescentes en la Academia de la Catedral de Cristo. Este espacio necesi ta unos cambios. Por medio del PSA podremos tener los fondos necesarios para este proyecto. Todo el dinero que se pague arriba de nuestra meta diocesana será regresado al 100% a nuestra parroquia. Ese dinero será designado para el proyecto del Centro para Jóvenes Adolescentes.La próxima semana, todos los parroquianos registrados recibi rán por correo una carta de nuestro párroco el Padre Smith, junto con un fol leto sobre PSA. Por favor considere en oración la cantidad que usted y su fami l ia podrá comprometerse para poder seguir adelante con el trabajo de Cristo dentro de nuestra comunidad.

Pr ogr ama de Dist r ibucion de Al iment osAdemás de su programa de asistencia cada Jueves, junto con Second Harvest Food Bank del Condado de Orange, Christ Cathedral Communi ty Outreach t iene un servicio de distribución de al imentos el 1º sábado de cada mes. El siguiente sábado sera el 2 de febrero en la casa de asistencia, de 10 am hasta 12 pm. Llegue, anótese, y tome su mandado y se puede i r a casa. No hay registración. Esperamos verlos al l í. Se necesi tan voluntarios antes y durante las horas de distribución. Si usted está interesado en ser voluntario, póngase en contacto con Mary Lou en (714) 287-4124.

Para el desayuno, de 7:00 a.m. a 11:00 a.m., tendremos tamales de pol lo con champurrado o pozole y una bebida. De 11:00 a.m. hasta las 7:00 p.m. tendremos tacos dorados (4) o tacos (3) de carne asada, al pastor y pol lo. El plato consiste en tacos dorados o tacos con una bebida. La preventa de boletos la tendremos después de cada misa y en la oficina de la

La New Hope Crisis Hotl ine es una l ínea telefónica de intervención de crisis y prevención de suicidio con servicio en el Condado de Orange. Cuentan con un equipo de personal entrenado para si tuaciones de crisis, están en el Tower of Hope aquí en la Catedral de Cristo. El los cuentan con consejería para personas que batal lan con si tuaciones cotidianas de la vida diaria.
