On the books for Poetry MonthSeeley. The art will be on display
all month longbut the official opening of Poetic Art is onSunday,
April 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. The studentswill be at the opening and it
will be the first timethe young visual artists and bards will meet
eachother. The event is free.
Mayor Rob Burton is expected to attend andhas written a poem
that will be included in achapbook of poems read at the event. The
restau-rant is located at 321 Lakeshore Rd. E.
Also, beginning Thursday, April 8, Timothy’swill host free open
mic events every Thursdayuntil April 29. Open mic will be from 7 to
9 p.m.
Another event this year is Poetry in Motion,
which happens Sunday, April 18 at BlueheelDance Studio, located
at 284 Church St. The freeevent will feature ballroom dancing in
styles ofswing, rumba and tango, blended with poetry.There will
also be a free group swing lesson. Theevent, open to all, is from 7
to 9 p.m.
Throughout the month there will also bepoetry and writing
workshops. Workshops havelimited space so those interested need to
reserveand pay a small fee for a spot. Information forworkshops is

We’ve all heard the sometimes somberchurch choir music, however
this retelling ofthe story of Jesus Christ promises to be a hip
andlively show for today’s youths. Adults are wel-come, too.
What He Did . . . A Musical, performed bylocal talent at Joshua
Crossing EvangelicalMissionary Church, aims to attract youths.
Apair of shows will take place on Saturday, April 3.
The musical, written, directed and producedby Oakville-resident
Alexandra Kane, is aboutChrist’s final week and his last 24 hours
beforebeing crucified, followed by his resurrection.
“I wanted to draw people’s attention to thechurch and to the
great music at the church,”said Kane, who has also received support
fromher family in writing and producing the show.
The 21-member cast is not exclusive to, butis predominantly,
comprised of local youths.
“They like the current music. The music inthis show is what they
hear on the radio,” saidKane, adding, she has incorporated music
gen-
res such as Top 40 music.The large cast was necessary,
considering
there are 12 disciples plus other roles. The 27-year-old Kane
has a bachelor of arts
degree in music from The University of WesternOntario. She was
the winner of last year’s StarsAmong Us performing arts award
hosted by theOakville Arts Council and has a CD due forrelease this
September.
Though the musical focuses on a religioussubject featuring
scenes from the last supper toChrist’s resurrection, for Kane it is
also a way toshowcase Oakville’s music talent.
“I hope people have a great time. I want themto see Oakville has
a great bunch of talent andthat it’s a great place for music,” she
said.
She noted the production has also broughtmore people into the
church. “Music is the gluethat’s holding everyone together,” she
said.
This is the first time the church has pro-duced such a show.
Money raised at the musicalwill go to the church’s music
ministry.
Showtimes are 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets cost$10 at the door. The
church is located at 3301Trafalgar Rd.
