Do we have free will or are we being controlled like God’s little puppets? Let me ask you this question to bring some light to this tough topic. Those that are closest in your life, like your spouse or your kids or your best friends, do you force them to love you? Do you force them to spend time with you and show you affection? The clear answer is a resounding, “No!” God desires each of us to know Him intimately and spend our day with Him, but He will not force us to do so. Even though He possesses the power to make us love Him, He wants us to choose Him. He wants genuine relationships with each of us and He wants us to choose to love Him with our whole hearts. If He forces us to do so, we are merely mindless robots or functioning by way of God pulling the strings of our puppet lives, which is in direct contradiction to what He laid out in His Word. Many examples are available to us to demonstrate this choice. People throughout history have had to make this choice of whether to follow God and His command or to reject them. Joshua makes it clear in Joshua 24:15 that we have a choice for whom we will serve and love. Revelations 3:20 tells us that Jesus is standing at the door of our hearts and knocking, asking us to let Him in, but we have to choose to open the door and let Him in. I believe that God has made our minds this way to allow us the choice to worship our Creator or to reject Him. Our Abba desires real fellowship, real worship, and real love from us. The only way this is possible is by allowing us to choose it. Real worship of our God is a choice we all must make on our own. The free will argument gets difficult when we take a close look at Pharaoh in Scripture and notice that the Bible says He was “predestined” to have a hard heart toward God. Does this mean that they were born into this world to be predestined to go to Hell? How is it possible to be both? How could God use a person for a condemning task? I propose to you that our God, being all knowing, knew in advance what he would choose before he chose. Pharaoh still made his choice and God used His knowledge of his choice to be a part of His great plan for the future of His people. Family, God desires and loves you and wants a relationship with you! Walking with Him and in His will is an adventure and has its trials and blessings along the way, but we have the promise of never going it alone. Our Father will walk every step with us and assures us of our eternity with Him!

Choosing Him How do we find the balance between God’s ultimate control and our free will? Do we have free will or are we being controlled like God’s little puppets? FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH WEEKLY EVENTS

MEMORIAL FUNDS UTILIZED: FCC now benefits from a generous gift from the Darold Hayden Memorial Fund. We have received a new AED (automated external defibrillator), which replaces the out-of-date one we had. The AED could be essential to “jump start” a stopped heart. Although we hope never to have to use this, we are blessed to have one on site should occasion ever require it. Thank you to the Darold Hayden family.

ROOTS KIDS NON-PERISABLE FOOD DRIVE IS ROUNDING DOWN…IT’S NOT TOO LATE

This is the last few days for collecting any non-perishable goods for our local ECKAN food pantry. We will make our final count this Wednesday, March 9 at 6:00 p.m. during our ROOTS program. Donation boxes are located in the sanctuary by the stage or drop them off during the week to Marsha Dulin at the church office. Thank you all for your support of our youth and ECKAN!

A NOTE FROM BRETT… Hey everyone! Wanted to let everybody be aware of some really cool things happening in the youth program coming up!

First off, the Pajama/Movie Party is going to be happening Wednesday, March 16! The time set for this really cool and fun event is 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and is for ages Kindergarten thru 6th grade. We will be watching “Aladdin” in the Fellowship Hall and “Lion King” in the Nursery room. Be sure to bring your own snacks, and to wear your favorite, most comfortable pair of pajamas. I know I will be rocking a “SpongeBob one-sie” so you won’t want to miss!

Secondly, the Jr High and Sr High Classes at FCC will be having a “tree service” fundraiser on Saturday, March 19 to help cover the expenses for “Young Christians Weekend” at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri in April in which they will be attending. If you need a tree serviced or cut down, please contact Marsha Dulin at the church office (785.448.3452) or check the flap on Sunday and we will add your name to the list. Pricing is by donation only.

Thirdly, we will be having a fundraiser bake sale on Tuesday, March 15 for the “Young Christians Weekend” as well. If you are interested in helping us bake some goodies, please contact me, and we will add you and your item to the roster, and we would deeply appreciate it.

If you have any questions about the above really cool events please contact me. Phone: 620-215-1286 or Email: [email protected]

Lastly, thank you so much for being so supportive of our youth. We wouldn’t be able to do nearly as much as we do, without the help of our adults. Thank you and have a good week! -Brett Hartman

Good Friday Services ~ March 25 ~will be held at the First Christian Church beginning at 12:10 p.m. Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Easter Sunrise Services ~ Sunday, March 27 will be held at the Garnett North Lake Shelter House at 6:30 a.m. Come and celebrate the Resurrection! His Cross, His Crown, Our Victory! John 19:30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

PROLIFE MEETING: David Gittrich will be speaking at a Pro Life Meeting held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall Center ~ 125 West 5th Ave ~ Garnett. Light Snacks will be served ~ no charge ~ Q & A following the presentation ~ Everyone welcome!

Don’t be late for Church or Sunday School this Sunday, March 13! As hard as it is to believe, Daylight Savings Time is here again. It's Spring Forward so set your clocks forward one hour before you go to bed.

I'm late, I'm late for A very important date. No time to say hello, good-bye, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late ~ I'm late and when I wave, I lose the time I save.
