My big word for the month of May is “HONOR.”
On Sunday, May 7, at our 10:00 a.m. communion
worship service we will honor our graduating High School Seniors. Our
FPC & Me young believers will lead worship that morning. As a church
family, we will congratulate our seniors and their parents and pray with them
as they take the next step in the Great Adventure!
The very next Sunday, May 14 is Mother’s Day. This is a biggie! The
Lord God made this one of the top 10 commandments. Our Savior, Jesus
raised it even higher. I urge you to HONOR your mother that day, and/or
those wonderful women in your life that has been a mother to you even if she
didn’t give birth to you. We will ask God’s blessing upon all the women in
worship that morning.
Pay to all what is due them— respect to whom respect is due, honor to
whom honor is due. Owe no one anything, except to love one another.
Romans 13:7-8
Sunday, May 21, we will be honored with the presence of Rev. Bill
Nottage-Tacey. Rev. Bill will lead worship and preach that morning. I will
be in Colorado Springs honoring our family’s high school graduate, our son,
Matthew Martin.
We all know the last weekend in May is Memorial Day weekend. We
honor all those who have gone before us. Our Sunday worship will include
several moments to simply remember, give thanks and honor the saints in
light.
Finally, I say with all humility, it has been an honor to serve this church as
your interim pastor. For the first time in many years, the written word fails
me – I just don’t know how to express my gratitude.
I am so thankful for the session, leadership, and the people of all ages in
this church. You have brought much to my life, and I pray I have served you
to the best of my ability.
I recently discovered that the Apostle Paul raised the word honor all the
way up to the front of the commandments. For the ever observant Paul, we
know he daily prayed daily, “We shall love the Lord our God with all our
hearts, minds, souls and strength.”
In Romans, he adds to the command to love. “Love one another with
mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.” Romans 12:10
The Grace and Peace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you forever and ever.

Mowing season has arrived
Chuck Francis is looking for a few good men AND women to help with the mowing this year. There is a sign-up sheet in the office or call Chuck at 660-1577. Mowing will be done about every 4 - 5 days.

A big “thank you” goes to Connie McCreery, choir director, and the choir members for a great year and a wonderful Easter Cantata! The Chancel Choir will continue through May and then Connie will be looking for summer musicians.

Summer Church Camp June and July are camping months.
At Calvin Crest, near
Fremont, week long opportunities are available for children and youth grades 1 thru 8. Themes include: ranch camp, mountain bike camp, high adventure, night owls.
At Highlands camp near Allenspark, CO, camping weeks for grade 3 thru 12 include adventure camp; music, art, and drama camp; mission adventure camp.
For adult and/or families there is Synod
School on the Buena Vista campus in Storm Lake, IA. Pastors and lay persons lead sessions provid-ing a variety of topics and activities to pursue. A planned schedule of activities includes children of all ages. All campers attend energizing worship at beginning and ending of the day.

Footsteps Camp A healing journey through grief
June 10, 2017 New Location:
Camp Comeca - Cozad, NE Footsteps Camp is a day-long camp focused on children and teens, along with their guardi-an, who have experienced the death of a loved one. At the camp, all participants will learn about their grief and connect with others who have experienced a loss. The camp is free to all campers and is made possible by gifts to the Great Plains Health Care Foundation. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, activity supplies and T-shirts will be provided. Adult Study Opportunities
The Saturday morning 9:00am Bible Study will meet on May 13 and 27. We in the Gospel of Matthew discussing the Passion of Jesus beginning with the Last Supper. All are welcome to join the group. We meet 9:00am in the Session meeting room.
“Second Sunday = Second Purchase” of an item for the Pantry
Bring an item (or two) and put them in the grocery cart on the Second Sunday - or - leave it in the pantry box any time during the week - or - take it to the pantry at 114 C St, between 1-3pm.
Home Communion: Pastor Steve along with one of the Deacons have been extending the table and taking communion to our shut-ins. If you have not received commun-ion and would like to be receiving it, please contact the church office. Or . . . If you are just interested in a visit, we would like to hear from you also.
PRESBYTERIANS ARE HANDS ON WHEN IT COMES TO MISSION
The Mission Committee would like to know if there are members of the congregation who need help with their
yard work this Spring. If there is a need, and if we have enough volunteers, we hope to offer this service. Please call the church office if you are interested in helping, or are in need of assistance.
We will let you know when we have a Saturday date to lend a hand to Habitat for Humanity with lunch and coffee break refreshments. If you would like to help with the food, please call Naomi, or just tell Deb, Ellie, or Nancy. Thanks!

CWS Blanket Sunday: Because our neighbors deserve warmth and comfort Mother’s Day/Blanket Sunday is May 14
They are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. 2 Corinthians 8:2
For 35 years, the nonprofit organization La Puente has provided vital resources and services to people in crisis in Colorado’s San Luis Valley. Your support meant that we shipped CWS Blankets and CWS Kits to La Puente in 2016. The supplies were distributed to La Puente’s homeless shelter and to residents in the San Juan Mountains living in the area known as the “flats.” Many homes in the flats don’t have running water or electricity. Most use firewood as their main heat source. In this high-altitude climate, winter temperatures can drop to life-threatening lows. Firewood can run out before winter ends. Robert Lockwood, the Rural Outreach Initiative’s Case Manager for La Puente, travels the flats and meets with the families living there. He provides resources when he can and always passes along essential information about where to access needed services. Last winter, Robert distributed all of the warm, wool Church World Service Blankets and Hygiene Kits he had on hand. Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21). God has blessed us with so much, and we have much to share. Share this love by providing CWS Blankets to those in need. Each blanket costs only $10, but these blankets can be a vital resource for someone needing a little support, warmth and encouragement.

Grace Ministries Food Pantry We handed out several days worth of food to 239 people in March this year! It is interest-ing….we haven’t set any new records for several months, and that is a good thing! We are hope-ful that it means the economy has improved a bit and more folks have been able to find work. 297 pounds of frozen meat left the Pantry in March, as well as 435 cans of fruit, 130 jars of peanut butter, and 248 boxes of cereal, to name a few. 430 cans of canned soup left the Pantry, and that is something I would like to talk to you about. We could use your help in replenishing our meal soup this month! By meal soup, I am referring to the types of soup that have meat, vegetables, and noodles or beans in them. Chicken noodle, beef stew, split pea with ham, chili, etc. Soups such as these have a higher protein count, and tend to be higher in calories, which makes them a little more substantial and filling than a broth or cream soup. Meal soups can be prepared using just a hot plate or micro-wave, and I’m sure they’ve been eaten straight out of the can on occasion! We are particularly low on meal soups at this time, so watch local ads and stores for specials, and help us get our supplies back up. Thank you all who ask what we need most, or watch the weekly Sunday bulletins for Pantry announcements!
Curves for Women recently held a food drive and our share was around 1000 pounds! Wow, what a blessing! The USPS “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive is coming up on May 13, so set some items out for your Mail Carrier that day if you can! We also have such wonderful donations from friends of the Pantry! Margaret, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your con-tinued generosity. Director Dean always says, ‘She’s one GREAT lady!’ And he says the same about Mary out in Oregon! Thank you Mary for continuing to support Grace Ministries from so far away!
Before I close, let me talk a bit about our Presbyterian volunteers. I’ve told you recently of our Pantry leaders and the jobs they do: Dean, Ned and Nancy, Cecil, and Scott Allison. Our weekly volunteers deserve a big THANK YOU too! For March I want to give shout outs to Carol and Jon Beggs, Dave and Sharon Glenn, Chuck Henline, Dennis and Gaylene Lombardi, Tammy Miller, Pastor Steve, Tom Pendleton, Bev Sallee, Jeanie Thies, and Chuck and Toni Volcek. Dan Ridgway usually helps a great deal, but was out due to surgery, but we thank him as well.
Once again, we couldn’t continue this work with-out all of YOU and we thank you!
