SEMI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF ARDMORE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2019 TO FEATURE REV. DR. AMY VALDEZ BARKER 4/5/2019 THE OKLAHOMA UNITED METHODIST CONTACT

The guest speaker for the 2019 Oklahoma Annual Conference takes the conference theme “Living Hope” to heart. From serving on global boards of the United Methodist Church as a teenager to helping congregations develop data-driven strategies for engaging with their communities, Rev. Dr. Amy Valdez Barker has spent more than a decade helping churches connect to the people around them.

Valdez Barker is the executive director for the Global Mission Connections Unit of Global Ministries, the mission agency of The United Methodist Church. She leads a team of 40 staff who are responsible for developing, strengthening and enhancing relationships with partners who are seeking to change their communities through missions. She has extensive experience on the connectional level of the church. PRECEPT UPON PRECEPT INDUCTIVE STUDIES . . . SPARE YOUR PEOPLE, LORD

Obadiah and Joel prophesied about the judgment of all the nations in the coming day of the Lord. Edom was singled out by Obadiah due to their ill treatment of Israel. Who would be spared? What would happen to Edom? In these last days, as we wait for the Day of the Lord, we should remember that God is gracious

and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. He calls people to return to Him with their whole heart. Spare Your people, O Lord. Join us as we study the prophesies of Joel and Obadiah. We will meet in Room 116 in the Colvert Ministry Center from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The study will include 5 sessions including the introductions. First lesson will be April 25 and continue through May 23. Cost of the workbook is $10.00. The workbooks should be available in the Welcome Center by the end of this week. (April 12) You may also purchase the workbook at the introductory lesson on April 25. Cheryl Patman will lead the discus-sions and Pete DeLacey will be the DVD lecturer.

FUMC SOUP KITCHEN WEEK, APRIL 29 - MAY 3 ARDMORE SOUP KITCHEN SERVING AND SUPPORTING OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST. This is our 20th year to be a part of the Soup Kitchen ministry! Through the coordination of three of our church

members, the Soup Kitchen is a successful ministry in our community. Virginia Young organizes the list of churches

and organizations that choose to participate. Rebecca Glaser is the fulltime “worker bee” as the Soup Kitchen Coordi-

nator. She prepares the menus and sees that the kitchen is equipped with supplies and groceries that the volunteers

will need to make the meals. Carolyn McElroy sets up the volunteer schedule for groups in our church such as

Sunday School classes, United Methodist Women, Youth Group and Missions team. Ardmore FUMC serves at the

Soup Kitchen two-three times a year. This means our church is responsible to have volunteers at the Soup Kitchen

one week (Monday – Friday from 3-7pm) and we cook, serve and clean up.
