Religious Formation Announcements
February 4, 2018 – 5th Sunday of Ordinary Time
In last week’s Gospel Jesus gathered and prayed with the community in the synagogue. Today we learn that Jesus also took the time to pray alone. We follow the example of Jesus, when we pray together with our parish commu-nity, and when we take the time to pray alone. Our modeled prayer behavior is observed by all in our community, especially our children. As we continue to move closer to the Lenten season, we might want to take the opportunity to talk with them about how we pray as a community (at Mass, grace before meals, prayers at bedtime). Additionally, invite those in your family to share and reflect upon their private prayer, when they pray, where they pray, and what they pray for. The emphasis is that through our example, they may learn to make private prayer an important part of their daily lives and also know that they can bring their private prayer to the community where all prayers joined together enlightens our relationship with God. Reflection: As we approach the beginning of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 14th, let us examine our own hearts and pray for God’s guidance on how we can move to welcome others and spread His Good News so that all may enjoy that amazing experience of Jesus in today’s world.
W o r l d w i d e M a r r i a g e E n c o u n t e r “Remember that my life is like the wind.” Let us make the best of our time to-gether with our spouses by attending a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Week-end. The next Weekends are Feb 9-11, 2018 in Huntington, NY and Apr 27-29, 2018 in Huntington, NY. For more information, call John & Toni Torio at 877-697-9963 or visit them at http://www.wwmeli.org.
