“ARE YOU GOD’S WIFE?”Yester-years’ television celebrity Art Linkletter was famous for his expression, “Kids saythe darndest things”. They still do, as we know so well from conversations in our familiesand among our friends. A life-long friend sent some “darndest things” to me recently, sprung from the Internet. Please enjoy them as much as I did . . . .

“A child’s next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman, recently widowed. Seeing the man crying, she went into theneighbor’s yard, climbed on his lap, and just sat there. When Mom asked her what she had said to the neighbor, the little girl replied, “Nothing... I just helped him cry.”

“First graders were discussing a family’s picture. One boy in the photo had a different hair color than other familymembers. One student suggested that he was adopted. A little girl said, ‘I know all about adoption. I was adopted.’Another child wondered, ‘What does it mean to be adopted?’ ‘It means,’ she replied, ‘that you grew in yourmommy’s heart instead of her tummy!”

“On his way home, someone stopped to watch a Little League baseball game. He asked a Little-Leaguer about thescore, and was told, ‘We’re behind — 14 to nothing!’ ‘Really... that much ... I have to say that you don’t look verydiscouraged. ‘ “Discouraged! Why should we be discouraged?’ , We haven’t been up at bat yet!”

“ Katie was trying out for a part in the school play. Mom gently told her not to get her heart set on being chosen fora part in the play. On the day that parts were awarded, Katie rushed up to Mom, eyes shining with pride andexcitement. ‘Guess what, Mom’, I’ve been chosen to clap and cheer!”

“One cold winter’s day, a little boy, about ten years of age, was standing in front of a store, peering through the storewindow — bare-foot, shivering. A lady approached him and said, ‘My, but you’re in such deep thought, staringthrough that window.’ ‘I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes,’ he replied. The lady took him by the hand, entered the store, and asked the clerk for a pair of shoes as well as a dozen pairs of socks. She then asked the clerkfor a basin of water and a towel, which he quickly brought to her. She took the chap to the back of the store, removedher gloves, knelt down, washed his feet, and dried them with a towel. [Remind you of anyone?] By the time, theclerk had returned with the socks and shoes. Placing a pair of socks and the shoes on the boy’s feet , she tied up theremaining pairs of socks and gave them to him. She told him, ‘No doubt, you will be more comfortable now.’ Asshe turned to go, the astonished kid caught her by the hand, looked up into her face, and with tears in his eyes, askedher, “Are you God’s wife?’

How right Art Linkletter was? What a blessing — then, now, always – these “ darndest things “ for all of us!

Blessings galore!

TEEN MINISTRY

Feb 5 5th Sunday of Ordinary TimeWho are you?

There are about a zillion ways for you to answer that question. Jesus offers this one in today’s Gospel:You are the light of the world!

You were born to be a source of light in the world. We were born to be a source of light.

How?For that answer we turn to today’s first reading from the prophet Isaiah: (read slowly and with care)

Thus says the LORD:Share your bread with the hungry, shelter the oppressed and the homeless;clothe the naked when you see them, and do not turn your back on your own. Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your wound shall quickly be healed;your vindication shall go before you,and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer, you shall cry for help, and he will say: Here I am!If you remove from your midstoppression, false accusation and malicious speech;if you bestow your bread on the hungryand satisfy the afflicted;then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday.

We reveal the light and love of God in the world when we live our faith and reach out to those who are in need.

Here at St. Pats, we have about 35 teens who commit to work with the homeless. They are assigned a few Saturdaysand donate about an hour simply setting up for the guests who will arrive in need of a warm place to sleep. Adults willcome with the food, will stay the night, then more adults with breakfast. Lots of people doing a little bit and as a resultno one freezes to death (please God) and every one gets three square meals. No one is Mother Teresa. But without theservices of each group, our light will not shine.

In addition, there is a hearty group that show up every week after the 5:30 mass and make sandwiches for the needyand pack the pantry for those who are struggling.

And, of course, Christ Himself, is hidden among our guests. “ I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and yougave me drink. Naked and you clothed me. Sick and you comforted me. A stranger and you welcomed me… for whateveryou do for the least of my brothers and sisters you do for me”.

Fifth Sunday in Ordinary TimeJesus told his disciples,

“You are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13a).He wanted them to show excitement about their faith

so that others would glorify God!Hidden in each row is the name of a seasoning. To find them, cross out the first salt shaker,

then every other one after that. When you’re done, think of ways

to spice up the world by showing God’s love!
