from the pastor Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time – Do your God given gifts get in the way of your love for God? People pray to God for a happy marriage, for children, etc. God grants these requests for some, and then sometimes, their spouse and children lead them astray from God. When God blesses your children with gifts, like being gifted athletically or musically, etc. – then the parents decide that they can’t keep the commandments like – keep holy the Lord’s day, because there are more important things like dance recitals, soccer games, concerts, vacations, etc. Go figure. In today’s first reading God says to David “I anoint you king of Israel. I rescued you from the hand of Saul. I gave you the house of Israel. And as if this were not enough, I could count up for you still more. Why have you spurned the Lord?” At least David had the sense to repent – “I have sinned against the Lord.” When David gets it right, he then gets to hear those beautiful words “The Lord on his part has forgiven your sin.” Those are great words for us to hear as well in this year of Divine Mercy. “But we are good people” you say. What are you com-paring yourself too? Those who need to hear these words aren’t reading this bulletin, because they weren’t at Mass on the Lord’s Day to get a bulletin, and worse, they didn’t get to hear the Word of the Lord in the readings either. So let these words serve as an encouragement for those who are trying to do what is right. While on vacation – don’t forget to take your family to Mass, so as to thank God for your life, your faith, your family, your em-ployment, your education, and the ability to go on vacation. Next weekend we will celebrate the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The readings at Mass will be taken from – Zechariah 12: 10-11, 13:1, Galatians 3: 26-29, Luke 9:18 – 24. Thanks to Phil and Hayden Arrington for removing the large tree that came down on our property two weeks ago. Thanks for those who also called to offer their help. Your kindness is much appreciated. A Family Life Dinner Group – is being formed. This group is being formed for adult members of our parish. YOU are invited to an organizational meeting in our Social Hall this Sunday after-noon, June 12th, at 3 p.m. The idea is to get our parishioners to know each other to a greater extent and to enjoy some good gro-ceries too. Come on by and share your ideas. Father’s Day is NEXT SUNDAY - June 19th. The Catholic Daughters will be serving a very nice breakfast in honor of our Dads. All are invited and Dads eat free. Vacation Bible School is Monday June 20 through Thursday, June 23rd. Thanks in advance to the participating children and all the volunteers. The Planning and Building Committee will meet this Thurs-day evening at 6:30 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus Room Fiddlebacks or Roman vestments will be worn dur ing the summer months. Why? well, it’s nice to have a change and be-sides – they are much cooler with lighter and less material than the gothic vestments.

Mrs. Mary Brown: If you need to contact Mrs. Brown, Faith For-mation Director, please call or text 704-929-0152 or email her at [email protected] or if you need to contact Mrs. Norma Echevarria please call the office at 704-872-2579 or email her at [email protected]. Registration forms for the 2016/2017 Faith Formation year are now available in the Faith Formation office. We will have new books next year. The series we have been using, Faith First, is no longer being published. We will be going with a new program entitled Faith and Life. We will order enough books so every child will be able to use one in the classroom during class. We are also offering the par-ents the option of buying books for their children. The cost is $10 per book. Purchasing the book is optional during 2016/2017 school year. Children whose parents have purchased books will be able to bring them home weekly. They will also be able to write in them. Parents will be required to purchase the books 2017/2018 school year. There is an additional activity book that we will be using next year. There will be training sessions over the summer for teachers so that they will learn how to best use the Faith and Life series. There are books available for parents to review in the Faith Formation office. Vacation Bible School registration forms will be available in the lobby before and after weekend Masses. Please complete then and turn them into the Faith Formation office. If no one is in the office please slide form under the door. The theme of this summer’s VBS is the Year of Mercy celebrated with St. Faustina, St. Junipero Serra, St. Cecilia and our very own St. Philip. Every evening we will learn about the saint, sing songs, crafts, and have a supper loosely based on the saints local food. The last day we will have a water activity and cake! Help your children learn more about their Catholic faith by attending VBS June 20-23rd from 6-8:00 pm. Call or text Mary Brown with any questions. We could use some volunteers. Confirmation pictures are on display in the lobby. Individual photos of confirmandi being anointed are numbered. These numbers correspond to envelopes with photos in the basket. A dollar donation is suggested for each photo. CDs with all the photos can be purchased for $5. Please email photographer Connie Ries at [email protected] or call her at 301-538-0053 with questions or orders.
