Last weekend, we
had the amazing
wedding of Prince
Harry and Meghan
Markle. I also had
a wedding here at
CHS but with a
little less
pageantry. The
following are some
excerpts from an article by Mike Royko on marriage,
written after the wedding of Charles and Diana.
You are man and woman and have just entered into the
most serious arrangement, agreement, contract,
relationship or whatever else someone might want to
call it, of your lives… You are a couple of people who
just got married. That gives you something in common
with all the young lovers and older lovers of a world
that sometimes seems loveless…. When all the gifts
have been given, when all the photographs have been
taken, when all the wedding songs have been played…,
it boils down to the same thing. It is just you and her.
Or her and you, to provide balance. It is the most won-
derful thing in the world. And don’t let anyone tell you
otherwise. And if you don’t realize that, you are
missing out on life’s most glorious experience.
Love…leaves you breathless and can cause you ecstasy
and misery and drive you crazy. And also drive you
happy. Be warned: It’s not all kissy-face and
patty-fingers and nibbling of earlobes. There will be
times when she’s going to be mad as hell at you. And
there will be times when she will drive you up a wall.
When that happens – yell…Tell her you’re mad…Then
say you’re sorry, go to bed, hold each other in your
arms, do whatever else is called for and wake up at first
chirp of the birds glad to be alive, and with each other.
parece no tener amor…
Dear Lord,
on this day, we remember those
who have served us by protecting our freedoms.
When we celebrate our long weekend
with our friends and family, help us remember,
that our freedom to speak of you,
and our freedom to worship you,
and our freedom to do that which we ought to do,
have all been bought at the price and sacrifice
of many lives.
Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven.
So too, your children died protecting us here on earth.
Help us be mindful this weekend and always
of the sacrifices made by those in uniform
for all our freedoms.
Amen.
Songs for the 5pm, 8am & 10am Masses 3
Gathering Song: Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee:
Holy, Holy, Holy! merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.
Holy, Holy, Holy! all the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
God everlasting through eternity.
Holy, Holy, Holy! though the darkness hide thee,
Through the eye made blind by sin thy glory may not see,
Only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth, and sky,
and sea; Holy, Holy, Holy! merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity.Text: Reginald Heber, 1783-1826, alt.
Tune: NICAEA 11 12 12 10; John Bacchus Dykes, 1823-1876

Presentation Song: We Are One, Lord
We are one, Lord, united in your Spirit, we are one,
Lord, surrounded by your love, we are one, Lord,
One in heart and soul; gathered as your children,
we are one.
We are free, Lord, free to serve each other, we are filled,
Lord; our grateful voice we raise to your name, Lord, as you
sustain us now. Gathered as your children, we are one.
Though we come from many places, we share amazing
grace; though we be of diff’rent ages, we share one voice of
praise. Though our talents, Lord, may vary, it’s the message
that we carry that binds us all together in this place.Words and music by Stan Pethel (ASCAP) © 1985, 1996 by Hope

Take Up Your Cross
1) Take up your cross, the Savior said, if you would my
disciples be; take up your cross with willing heart,
and humbly follow after me.
2) Take up your cross, let not its weight fill your weak spirit
with alarm; His strength shall bear your spirit up,
and brace your heart and nerve your arm.
3) Take up your cross, heed not the shame, and let your
foolish heart be still; the Lord for you accepted death upon
a cross, on Calv’ry’s hill.
4) Take up your cross, then, in his strength, and calmy
ev’ry danger brave: It guides you to a better home and
leads to vict’ry o’er the grave.
5) Take up your cross, and follow Christ, nor think till
death to lay it down; for only those who wear the cross
may hope to wear the glorious crown.Text: Charles W. Everest, 1814-1877, alt. Tune: O WALY WALY, LM;
English; harm. By Martin West,b. 1929, © 1983, Hope Publishing Co.
Communion Song: Only This I want
Only this I want: but to know the Lord,
And to bear his cross so to wear the crown he wore.
All but this is loss, worthless refuse to me,
for to gain the Lord is to gain all I need.
I will run the race; I will fight the good fight,
So to win the prize of the Kingdom of my Lord.
Let your heart be glad, always glad in the Lord,
So to shine like stars in the darkness of the night.Text: Philippians 3: 7-16; 2:15, 18; Dan Schutte, b. 1947
Tune: Dan Schutte, b. 1947; arr. by Michael Pope, SJ
© 1981, Daniel L. Schutte and New Dawn Music
Closing Song: Mine Eyes Have Seen the GloryMine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath
are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his
terrible swift word; His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory!
Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory!
Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
with a glory in his bosom that transfigures you and me;
As he died to make us holy, let us die that all be free!
While God is marching on. Text: Julia W. Howe, 1819-1910 Tune:BATTLE OF THE REPUBLIC, 1515156 with refrain; attr, to William Steffe, d 1911
Derechos reservados.
Canto de Salida: Somos Una Iglesia
Un solo Señor, un solo Señor. Un mismo Espíritu,
Un mismo Espíritu. Somos una Iglesia.
Vivamos nuestro llamado siendo humildes,
Siendo amables y paciente.
Unidos nos mantendremos con lazos, vivos lazos,
De paz y amor.Letra y música copyright 1994, Eleazar Cortés.
Obra publicada por OCP Publications. Derechos reservados.
Canto de Entrada: Alabaré
Alabaré, alabaré, alabaré a mi Señor. (bis)
Somos tus hijos, Dios Padre eterno,

THANK YOU FROM THE FOOD PANTRY
Thank you to everyone who so generously supports our Food Pantry.
Because of your generosity, we are able to assist those families who are
in need of one the basics of life – food. The food and miscellaneous
items that are donated are distributed to the families. Cash donations
are used to purchase additional items at cost or below cost from the
Greater Chicago Food Depository. They are also used to purchase
milk each week from the Food Depository as part of a pilot milk
program at a subsidized cost.
The Food Pantry also does SNAP applications (food stamps) each week from 10:00 am – 3:30 pm.
All information is confidential.
If you would like more information about the Food Pantry or wish to volunteer, please contact
LaVerne Horgan at 224-813-0070 or [email protected].
Thank you to the Palatine Post Office, their mail carriers and the families in their community who
participated in the annual Mother’s Day food collection. They shared their collection with our food

estimated weight of 3,000#. Thank you to our parishioner, Terry Cloherty, who arranged this for us.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
born of the Virgin Mary.
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell;
on the third day he rose again from the dead,
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of
God the Father almighty;
from there he will come to judge the
living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
Virgen,
y se hizo hombre;
y subió al cielo, y está sentado a la derecha del Padre;
futuro. Amén.
