THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER May 5, 2019

“But Peter and the apostles said in reply, ‘We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had him killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant Israel repentance and forgiveness of sins. We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.” When people wonder how to get started in learning about the Catholic Church, or to read the bible, the clearest answer is found in this or any other sermon of St. Peter and St. Paul in the Acts of the Apostles. These teachings from the bible introduce us to Jesus Christ and His saving mission. Because of my encounter with Jesus through the announcement of Peter, I am moved to learn more as He accompanies me. The talks summarize what is most important – Jesus is Savior, He died and rose, and has been glorified. I suggest that you look at similar teachings, which will provide the foundation of this great time of Easter. Look at the Acts of the Apostles chapter 2,3,4,9,19. These are called the kerygm, or the announcing sermons of Peter and Paul.

GOOD MANNERS ARE ALWAYS IN FASHION

Manners are more than using the correct silverware or placing a napkin on the lap. In fact, knowing how to behave in social situations makes everyone more comfortable. Here are basic manners every child can master:

1. Wait your turn: Teach children to wait there turn to speak and not to interrupt when you or others are talking. When you are finished, offer your full attention to reward the wait.

2. ‘Please,” “Thank you,” and “Your welcome,”: These small phrases communicate that a child is respectful, appreciative, and polite. If you use them so will your youngsters.

3. Look but don’t touch: Children of all ages can respect others’ belongings by nout touching what isn’t theirs.

4. Accept compliments: Mannerly childen will want to get accustomed to acceptin compliments by simply saying “thank you” when receiving one.

5. Sunday Best: Wearing special clothing to Mass on Sunday, and using our best behavior at Church, teaches children that there are times we work harder to put forward our best selves.

NEW ALTAR SERVERS A new class for Altar Servers at Resurrection is about to begin. Any boy or girl in 5th grade, 6th grade or 7th grade is welcome to become an Altar Server. It is fun and easy! It is an important job to assist the priest at Mass. New Altar Servers begin serving Weekend Mass in the Summer or September. Training classes will be held in late May and early June. We will try to accommodate busy schedules (PREP, CYO, sports, tutor, etc.) If interested in becoming an Altar Server in our Parish please call the Rectory (914) 967-0142 Monday – Friday between 9:30 am and 4 pm.
