Christmas Art (sorry we know it’s October!)

If you haven’t bought your Christmas Cards yet, you might

want to hang on a few weeks. The children have been

creating designs which a company will print to order. If you

would like your child’s art work on your Christmas Cards,

you can order them and the school will get £1 for each

pack sold. There is no obligation to buy—just if you want to

(and if the art work is good!)

The proofs should be here soon after half term.

Allotment We have a spare mini plot on our allotment at Harpers

Lane. It measures about 1.5 x 3 metres so isn’t too big to

manage. If there are any families

that would like to take on the plot,

and have a go at growing fruit and

vegetables for your family, please

see Mrs Rigby. It will have to be on

a first come first served basis. Thank you for your generous harvest gifts. They have been collected by Urban Outreach and will

be put to very good use this winter.

Art at Church Road School As you know we are very keen to promote the arts in school. We really believe it helps in so many ways

with children’s learning and development. Miss Nicholson and her arts team are working hard this year

towards gaining the gold arts mark. This includes participation in concerts here at school and in other

venues, visits from artists and participating in art exhibitions.

The children in school are already thinking about the Christmas plays and the children in KS2 are

already practising for the Christmas concert in December.

Eco council news The Eco Council invited Mrs Fenton to their meeting in

October and shared their action plan for the next year. They have three key areas to work :-

to put more flowers into the playgrounds to brighten them up, to make bird

feeders and bug hotels to attract more wildlife and are

keen to reduce the amount of waste (including litter) by

planning to watch our consumption of paper and

electricity in particular. There are plans to make sure we

are a healthy school. They want to encourage the

children to eat some of the fruit and

vegetables that we grow in school and on the allotment.

We are very proud of them and we look forward to seeing

their good work.

Sport at Church Road School We have had a busy half term with sport here at school. We have had rugby

coaching, dance and gymnastic taster sessions. Our cross country team

have got good and muddy on Moss Bank Park

and more recently the netball team have had a

run out.

Attendance The children have done quite well for attendance

in September, however, the overall attendance

wasn’t great. There were a few families on our

registers who were waiting for new schools due to

moving house. When we remove them from the

equation we had 95.9% attendance. This isn’t as

high as it needs to be. I’m hopeful that October

will be higher as some families were on holiday the

first week back in September and they have now

returned.

Parking There has been a huge improvement in the

parking situation. Thank you so much! There

have not been any cars parked in the back

street since we introduced the cones and the

banners, which means children are much

safer arriving at and leaving school.

I understand from the focus newsletter that we

may be getting further yellow lines in the area

too. It all

helps to

keep the

children

safe.

PTA news The PTA are in full fundraising mode now! The

cinema night wasn’t as busy as we had hoped

but we still managed to raise £65.30.

Thank you to everyone who sent in bags to

school donations which raised £76.80.

Our next event is the Spooky Disco. As you may

know we run two discos one after the other to try

to get as many children in as possible.

The discos are on 1st

November, one at 5pm and another

at 6:30pm. Unfortunately all the tickets

have now sold out. If anyone has

bought a ticket and is now unable to

use it, please return it for a refund. We

have a few children who don’t have a ticket.

After the spooky disco we have the Christmas

Market. We will have a few non uniform days in

the run up and we would really appreciate it if

you could donate items so that we don’t have to

buy things for the tombolas. It’s an expensive

time of year so we want you to know how much

we appreciate every donation.

Our first non uniform day is the 17th November.

Please could the children in EYFS and KS1 bring

some chocolate for the chocolate tombola. KS2

It would be lovely if you could bring a bottle of

something for the bottle tombola.

The week after is non uniform for the “No Parent

Room” I think this is a bit of a Church Road

speciality, because I’ve not come across it

anywhere else! We have a room with just enough

space for children to get through the door—no

grown ups allowed! Inside the

children can buy a gift for parents,

grandparents etc (we help the little

ones!) then they can have it gift

wrapped for Christmas Day.

If all the children could bring in an

item for the “No Parents Room” on

24th

November, that would be great.

Think along the lines of shower gel/bubble bath.

We only charge the children 50p or so for items,

so they don’t need to be too expensive.

The PTA have arranged (and paid) for the

NWTAC to come in and perform “Dick

Whittington” for the children on 13th December.

They will also be helping out to buy the presents

for the children’s Christmas Parties. So the money

we raise will be put to good use.

If you would like to join our PTA please do come

along to the next meeting on 14th November. It’s

at 3:45pm and a member of staff will be on hand

to look after the children. We are a friendly

bunch and are always on the look out for new

ideas and new members.
