Christ Lutheran Church is a place to find the grace and truth of Christ
June 2020
We are excited to see everyone in worship once again as we return to our regular worship schedule: 8am Traditional, 9:30 & 11am Contemporary. For everyone’s safety, we ask worshipers to follow these safety procedures:
There will be no nursery, Worship KidStyle, Adult Bible Classes,
or coffee and donuts in between services .
We will usher people in and out of worship to maintain social
distancing.
We will have bulletins only for those who can’t read the screen
Communion will be “serving line style” where each worshipper
will come and take a cup with a wafer on top. If a person needs
communion brought to the pew, we will still be able to offer this service.
We will not be passing offering plates. Offering plates will be placed at the front for people to give their gift to the Lord at the appointed time.
A team of people will clean the church between services.
Worshippers are not required to wear a mask, however if you feel
you need to wear one, please do.
If you are sick please stay home for your sake and the sake of
others.
If you feel like you are not ready to come back to worship at this time, we understand. In fact, we encourage you to continue to watch online until the time comes that you feel you are able. If you are not able to worship with us and would like Communion, please let one of the pastors know and we will work out a way for you to receive this special gift of our Lord. Thank you for your encouragement and grace during these last couple of months. While we’ve had many glitches, your support for the Lord and His Church has been such a blessing. You are loved and very important part of God’s family. If you have any questions or need clarification, please let us know.
The Good News June 2020 2
Can you imagine living in a house that is all hooked up to electrical power and not using it? Sitting in the dark instead of throwing the light switch? Having food spoil because you didn’t plug in the fridge or freezer? Sweltering in the summer or shivering in the winter instead of using the A/C and heat pump? Scrubbing your clothes by hand instead of using the washer and dryer? I could go on but you get the picture. Pretty silly, don’t you think? WHO would do that? It’s about as silly as someone with a fully operable car and a tank full of gas, pushing the car along the road instead of getting in, turning on the motor and driving it!
Now why would I start out this article with
a dumb question like that? Because that’s
exactly what we do with the most important
source of power in the universe!! We just celebrated Pentecost—the birth of
the Christian church when God poured out
His Holy Spirit to dwell within His people. In the Old Testament, God would send His Spirit to someone---a prophet, for instance--for a time to enable him to perform a certain service, but the Spirit did not necessarily remain in them. Jesus’ death and resurrection changed all that. Before Jesus departed the Last Supper with His disciples on His march to
the Cross, He spoke to them of many things as recorded in John 14-16. One of those things
was the promise of the Holy Spirit which
would be with them forever. (I will ask the
Father, and He will give you another Helper, to be
with you forever, even the Spirit of truth. John
14:16-17) On the first Pentecost, the followers
in the Upper Room experienced little “tongues of fire” on their heads to signify God’s Spirit entering them. Today the Spirit is more subtle—no flames on our heads! But He is
alive and well—indwelling in us from the
time of our Baptism. St. Paul tells us that our
bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit! (I
Cor. 6: 19-20) So where does the Power Company fit into
all of this? The Holy Spirit IS our Power
Company! Before His ascension into heaven, Jesus told His disciples, “You will receive power when the
Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my
witnesses…..to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
This is the spirit—the helper, the comforter that Jesus promised the night of His betrayal.
Power! Think about the Power that created the heavens and the earth when “the SPIRIT OF
GOD was hovering over the waters. Gen 1:2 That
Spirit lives in you! Think about the Power that raised Christ from the dead! “And if the Spirit of
him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in
you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also
give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit
who lives in you.” Romans 8:11 That Spirit lives
in you!
The Holy Spirit guides us, as Jesus promised: But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will
guide you into all the truth…” John 16:13 The
Holy Spirit bears fruit in us “But the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-
control.” Galatians 5:22-23 “God has not given a
spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a
sound mind.” 2 Tim 1:7 The Holy Spirit
intercedes for us! “In the same way the Spirit
also helps our weakness, for we do not know how to
pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself
intercedes for us with groanings too deep for
words.” Roman 8:26
This is barely the tip of the iceberg! The
workings of the Holy Spirit could fill a year’s worth of sermons and still not be complete! Check it out for yourself and see what God has given us!! Yet we too many times live our lives as if it all depended on us--living without using the wonderful power that God has put inside of us. It’s there! But we ignore it—just like living in the dark because we won’t turn on the light switch. The Holy Spirit—the Power Company that just keeps on giving--freely! Romans 12: 2 tells us “Do not conform to the
pattern of this world, but BE TRANSFORMED
BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MIND.”
That’s the Holy Spirit working in us!! He will
guide us, teach us, comfort us, lead us into truth, give us the words we need to say, and on and on! In short He will transform each of us
into the persons God created us to be! The
Holy Spirit is God’s power working in us in
every aspect of our lives! How awesome is
that!? Don’t try to live without it!! And it is the
POWER that helps us CONNECT PEOPLE
TO CHRIST!!
THE SPIRIT OF GOD AND THE POWER COMPANY!
The Good News June 2020 3
The 2019-2020 school year has officially ended! We are busy in the office making plans for the coming year and updating things around campus. We had a wonderful 8th grade graduation ceremony, social distancing style, of course. The students and families were so excited to see each other again and it was great for them to get to see some of their teachers before heading off to high school. We’re so proud of all of our students and families for making it through the last quarter of online learning. I know we’ve all learned a lot! While we plan to start school in the fall ON campus, we are also preparing for the possibility of being in an online learning situation again. We are evaluating how things went during the fourth quarter and making adjustments for the possible transition. As you know, Ms. Haley Johnson has asked for a peaceful release from her Call as a teacher at Yuma Lutheran School. She feels led to follow one of her dreams to work for
the U. S. Border Patrol. We pray for strength during her training period and for safety as she starts her new position after. Please lift Haley up in prayer as she begins this new endeavor this month! We will be moving Mrs. Rhonda Whitcomb to the 5th grade opening and we have hired Mrs. Dawn Echols to teach 4th grade. Mrs. Echols has taught at YLS in the past before moving with her family to Phoenix. They are back and we are excited to have Mrs. Echols with us again. Again, we pray you are healthy and your needs are being met. If there is anything we can provide you with during this time, please let us know!

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you
go.” ~ Joshua 1:9
As the weeks and months go on since our world as we knew it paused, everyone has been on their own personal journey through this time. Some wake up worried and anxious about today...and tomorrow. While some wake up in peace knowing God is in charge of the day for whatever it has to bring. As Christians we try to our best to leave each day up to God. Fearing illness and ultimately death weighs on many people’s minds. You can’t listen or read the 24 hour news without having this thrown at you in relation to the COVID 19 virus. Fear seems to be sold and encouraged all
the time. People who live with the fear of sickness, tragedy, or death, may not be living with the reassurance of eternal life. They may not know God and that He is in control and has a plan. They have no HOPE. It can be a dismal way to get through each day. It is natural to be concerned about these things, but as Christians, our HOPE also gives us peace. The difference with how we each handle fear or living life seems to be in the word HOPE. HOPE in the dictionary is “an optimistic state of mind that is based on an
expectation of positive outcomes with respect
to events and circumstances in one’s life or the
world at large.” Bible HOPE is “the confident
expectation of what God has promised and its
strength is in His faithfulness.” Hebrews 6:19 “We have this HOPE as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold unswervingly to the HOPE we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Notice the difference? HOPE in God’s promises is confident and sure, while the dictionary definition regarding worldly hope is simply optimistic and unsure. Recently I was visiting with a member of CLC who has a bag with the word HOPE
written on it hanging on her door knob in her room. It has been there for a long time. Sometimes she thinks about removing it...but she hasn’t because it helps change her thoughts and actions for the day when she glances at it. It encourages her faith and trust in her Lord. Maybe we each need an “reminder” of HOPE that swings our thoughts around to God when we feel weak and that element of worry and
fear arrives on the doorstep of our thoughts. As we each try to move forward after sheltering in
place, think on these powerful words, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11. Our Lord CAREs for us...and we can trust in Him. Jesus Calling, shares a real challenge for us. “The challenge continually before you is to trust Me and search for My way through each day. Do not blindly follow your habitual route, or you will miss what I have prepared for you.” Take one day at a time and trust God to guide you. As we continually hear bad news, keep our CARE-ing God’s Words of promise deep inside to
give you strength and HOPE for each tomorrow. Share your HOPE with those who God puts in your path. Be a witness to the world on how to live with HOPE through your faith at the time of a pandemic. No matter what occurs in the future ultimately eternal life with our God is for sure! AMEN!

Like many groups and clubs, this year has not been like any other for our Troop and Pack. Due to the Corona Virus the Troop and Pack have not been holding regular meetings. Our Cub Scout Leaders are looking forward to the fall program beginning in August or September.
The Boy Scout Troop is starting to get ready for its annual Summer Camp scheduled for the week of July 5th thru July 11th. We are hoping that conditions continue to improve and restrictions keep being lifted. We are still planning for our 25th Anniversary and reaching out to past members of the Pack and Troop 8051 but our celebration will be taking on a different form than originally planned. Since we have not had regular meetings our Pack and Troop have not be able to do their end of year awards, Cub Scout Crossover, and Courts of Honor. Not only will we be celebrating 25 years of ministry at Christ Lutheran Church but we will also be awarding everything that our boys have earned. Everyone is welcome to join us for the biggest
Blue & Gold/Crossover/Court of Honor/25th Anniversary Celebration ever on July 18th at 10am starting the in the Christ Lutheran Church's Sanctuary. Chuck Thompson Scoutmaster 8051
