Meaningful innovation: It’s why so many organizations see the business value we deliver to SAP environments.

Best foundationFirst and foremost is our leadership with our Cisco Unified Computing System™ (Cisco UCS®) and Cisco® Application Centric Infrastructure (Cisco ACI™) platforms. These platforms are the foundation for an intent-based data center that automates, simplifies, and protects your digital future—and they are the basis for all of our SAP solutions. Only our SAP-certified, policy-based converged infrastructure for SAP HANA offers a zero-touch architecture that you can deploy in days, not months.

Deep involvementNext is the breadth and depth of our involvement in SAP initiatives, including SAP HANA, S/4 HANA, Vora, and Leonardo. We don’t just sell equipment. Our real-world solutions are the result of a massive engineering effort, with best practices codified in Cisco Validated Designs that accelerate deployment and reduce risk, helping you improve your return on investment (ROI).

Industry firstsThere are many reasons why SAP awarded Cisco the 2017 SAP HANA Innovation Award.

• Big data innovation: Working with SAP, we delivered the first SAP-certified Vora and big data reference architecture, including the world’s first 2-petabyte (PB) Vora test and validation laboratory.

• High-speed connections: A leader in networking, we bring 40-Gbps connectivity between your SAP applications and SAP HANA databases.

• Networking innovation: We integrate SAP Leonardo capabilities on ruggedized routers on your network edge that comb through data and send only what you need to the data center.

• Hyperconvergence: Cisco HyperFlex™ systems offer the first hyperconverged solution certified for SAP applications.

• Security: Cisco’s top-rated, award-winning security provides full, multilayer protection for SAP data centers.

Considering cloud?• Hosting: The top eight SAP

service providers, including the three largest, run SAP HANA on Cisco UCS.

• Cloud: In addition to service provider adoption, SAP runs its own Converged Cloud Services on Cisco UCS.

• Systems integration: CenturyLink’s zero-touch SAP HANA deployment methodologies are based on Cisco UCS and Cisco ACI.

• Storage: Cisco offers more SAP-certified storage choices than any vendor, including hard disk drives (HDDs), all-flash storage, and software-defined storage options.

The innovation we deliver is meaningful because it delivers real business value to our customers.

Real evidenceEvidence from neutral observers testifies to our industry leadership.

• Preferred platform: IDC found that Cisco UCS was identified as the preferred platform for SAP HANA by more survey participants than any other platform. IDC also found that even greater numbers of participants—20 to 25 percent—planning to move to SAP HANA prefer Cisco platforms.

• Most viewed configurations: The vendor-neutral web portal for SAP-certified platforms reports that between 2016 and 2017 Cisco moved from number 9 to number 1 in customer queries.

AddOn, the site’s host, found that Cisco receives twice the clicks as the next closest vendor.

• Preferred platform: Cloud service providers not affiliated with a hardware vendor use Cisco platforms to meet stringent service-level agreements (SLAs) and deliver services to customers at a competitive price. These service providers know they get better performance and ROI from Cisco solutions for SAP.

• Who else uses Cisco? SAP does. SAP’s Converged Cloud Architecture runs on our FlexPod and Vblock integrated infrastructure solutions.

A new TDI model from SAP combined with powerful appliances and Cisco UCS M5 servers gives you a wide range of choices and price points for SAP deployments.

Leading performanceWe continue to lead in SAP performance in part due to the power of the Intel® Xeon® Scalable processor family. Built on 14-nanometer (nm) processor technology, the processor family delivers outstanding performance, security, and agility. Integrated into Cisco UCS, the servers become part of a single integrated system connected with a 10- or 40-Gbps unified fabric to accelerate the flow of data between SAP HANA and your landscape applications.

Integrated solutionsWith Cisco UCS Integrated Infrastructure solutions, your IT staff doesn’t have to spend time making everything work together and perform as expected. These innovative solutions combine Cisco UCS and Cisco Nexus® switches with leading and emerging solutions from storage partners

to deliver preengineered, tested, and supported systems that are designed to operate as a single unit. Cisco tests and documents solutions so that you can get deployments up and running quickly and with confidence.

Unified managementAll of our Cisco UCS M5 servers are ready for Cisco Intersight management as a service, so you can direct all of your SAP landscapes from a single point regardless of location. Cisco Intersight™ brings intuition to your data center. With an integrated recommendation engine, the service can proactively alert you to issues before they become problems. Of course you can continue to use any of our existing managment tools to gain a global view of your infrastructure, including Cisco UCS Manager, Cisco UCS Central Software, and Cisco UCS Director.

Proven performance

The Cisco UCS C240 M5 Rack Server delivered 50 percent better performance than the Cisco UCS C240 M4 Rack Server equipped with Intel Xeon processor E5 v4 family CPUs. Even more remarkable, using Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2, the result exceeds even the best 4-socket result with the Intel Xeon processor E7 v4 family, suggesting the value of upgrading to the latest servers.

Cisco servers and deployment models redefine your data center’s potential.

Choice of deployment modelIn addition to our successful appliance deployment model, we also enthusiastically support the new SAP Tailored Datacenter Integration (TDI) deployment model, which offers flexibility in the way that you size and deploy servers to support SAP HANA in your data center. You can choose whichever model you prefer.

• Performance-optimized appliances: Configurations are based on application memory sizes and deployed in a “shared nothing” configuration that uses dedicated servers, switching, and storage to help ensure the highest performing SAP landscape. The server configurations listed in this document use appliances.

• Performance-optimized SAP TDI: This model starts with the appliance configurations specified in this document. Costs are reduced because with this model you can share your existing data center network and use enterprise shared storage systems if they are certified for use with SAP.

• Cost-optimized SAP TDI: The SAP TDI Phase V deployment model helps you save by providing the specifications for a system tuned for your workload. You enter workload parameters into an SAP Quick Sizer tool to identify the range of processor and memory parameters that you can deploy to support SAP HANA. You can share your switching and storage infrastructure to reduce cost.

We recommend that you use the two performance-optimized sizing models for production systems and performance-dependent implementations. These systems and appliances use top-of-the-line processors and specify memory density and placement for optimal performance. For nonproduction systems or price-sensitive applications, the sizing model offers the flexibility to use Intel Xeon Scalable processors with eight or more cores with Silver, Gold, or Platinum processor levels. Memory DIMMs can be mixed, with at least one DIMM populated per channel.

Choice of serverRegardless of deployment model, you have access to industry-leading blade and rack servers with Intel Xeon Scalable processors to best match your implementation. We cover the entire SAP HANA workload spectrum, from 192 GB to 48 TB and beyond (see table on the next page). Regardless of your application, our SAP HANA solutions and landscape application support give you excellent performance.

Blade server-based implementations use enterprise shared storage or software-defined storage. Rack servers can use local hard-disk drives (HDDs) or solid-state drives (SSDs) or they can attach to enterprise shared storage systems or software-defined storage solutions. We offer scale-up solutions that can grow in processing and memory capacity, and we offer scale-out solutions that are clustered to support data set sizes up to 48 TB and beyond.

A flexible pool of resources supports your entire SAP environment with scalability, flexibility, performance, and lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

A new solutionWe have been leaders in providing scale-up and scale-out integrated infrastructure solutions for SAP HANA that incorporate enterprise shared storage in a single, easy-to-order, and easy-to deploy configuration. Now we offer an SAP-certified shared storage solution with a cluster of Cisco UCS C240 M4 Rack Servers.

We unify the storage cluster using the MapR Converged Data Platform to deliver Network File System (NFS) access to your data. Now you can create a pool of Cisco UCS C240 M4 servers that can be deployed on demand for your computing or storage needs. The same server can be deployed as a member of a storage cluster, an SAP HANA Vora node, as part of a Hadoop cluster, or to run third-party applications. All your servers can be repurposed in minutes because

they all reside in the same Cisco UCS management domain, greatly simplifying your environment.

Start small and scale on demandYou can start with an SAP HANA storage cluster with as few as three servers and scale as your capacity needs increase. The appliance model allows you to scale to up to 16 servers at 33 TB each. The TDI model allows you to scale to 16 servers and beyond. Cisco is certified to deliver shared network TDI services, so we can deploy the solution with your SAP and even third-party applications in the same Cisco UCS domain with high-bandwidth and low-latency connectivity that increases performance, flexibility, and scalability, all while reducing your TCO.

“The performance we offer for SAP in the cloud puts us in a league of our own, and we’re very proud of that.”
