CITY OF ADELAIDESPORTS AWARDS 2017

Kaurna message – Marni na budni Kaurna yerta / Greetings to Kaurna Country

Adelaide City Council acknowledges and respects the tribal family clan groups who are the Kaurna nation. The Kaurna people are the ancestral custodians whose sacred lands we gather on in Adelaide – Tarndanyangga. We honour the integrity of our rst nations and respect their spirit, their cultures and their place.

Council’s new strategic plan sets a clear vision for the City of Adelaide, to build the City economy by growing the number of people living, working, playing, visiting and studying in the City. With almost nine million people using the Park Lands each year, including two million from community and sporting groups and schools, sport and recreation has a considerable role to play.

Adelaide is a beautiful, diverse city with an enviable lifestyle that is welcoming to people in all stages of life. A hallmark of our local sporting community is their ability to encourage and bring people of all ages, cultures and means together to be active and participate in City life.

The City of Adelaide Sports Awards is an opportunity to develop, celebrate and truly recognise our strong and resilient sporting clubs, athletes and volunteers.

We are extremely proud of the signicant contributions our sporting community makes to enliven the Park Lands and increase the physical activity and wellbeing of our City community. We now invite you to be an integral part of this important and growing sports awards event.

OUR VISION FOR ADELAIDE

In conjunction with National Volunteer Week, the third annual City of Adelaide Sports Awards will take place on Thursday night, 11 May 2017. For the rst time, the awards will be a civic reception hosted by the Lord Mayor and held in the prestigious Queen Adelaide room of the historic Adelaide Town Hall, showcasing and celebrating the very best of physical activity and community sport in the City.

Building on the success of the 2016 Awards at the North Adelaide Golf Club, the 2017 Awards will be bigger and better than ever before, with an exciting new location, more guests, greater visibility, enhanced prole, prestige and commercial opportunities for partners to get involved.

CITY OF ADELAIDE SPORTS AWARDS

LORD MAYOR'S MESSAGESport and recreation is ingrained in Adelaide’s way of life.

The unique achievements and contributions that our local sporting clubs, events, volunteers, ofcials and athletes make to our community every day, continues to enhance our City’s reputation as a great place to live, work and play.

The 2017 City of Adelaide Sports Awards provides a tremendous opportunity for us to recognise these outstanding individuals and organisations that activate our parks and places, and positively impact the lifelong health and wellbeing of our community.

The remarkable success of the 2015 and 2016 awards at North Adelaide Golf Course has seen this event grow in stature in recent times, and I’m delighted to announce that we will now be hosting the 2017 City of Adelaide Sports Awards in the Queen Adelaide Room of the Adelaide Town Hall.

As well as the return of the Lord Mayor’s Volunteer of the Year Award, 2017 will also see the introduction of a new “Champion of Inclusion” Award to be sponsored by Inclusive Sport SA.

These awards would not be possible without our dedicated teams and the amazing support of our generous sponsors, and I thank all those who have supported the awards in the past. I commend those who consider partnering with us to ensure another great night and look forward to joining you all for another successful event in 2017.
