CONNECTED WITH THE WORLD

From its convenient location in South America, Buenos Aires is connected with the main cities of the region and the world. Its two international airports receive over 700 international flights per week. Just three hours from Rio de Janeiro and two from Santiago, Buenos Aires is a regional and international strategic location.

SUITABLE FOR ALL AUDIENCESFrom youth hostels to five-star hotels; gourmet restaurants to street carts; to rides along the river in a catamaran to free outdoor performances, the city offers activities for all tastes and budgets.

A CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

The city is host to international events throughout the year. Concerts, operas, ballets, sporting events, festivals and big fairs, in addition to hundreds of congresses and thematic conventions, of the likes of Oil&Gas, Automechanika and ICCA Congress, for example. Tourists from all over the world come to enjoy Lollapalooza, the International Book Fair, the ATP of Buenos Aires and the Argentine Polo Championship, among others.

Whether by bus, on foot or a bicycle, there are many ways to enjoy the different tourism circuits, museums, art galleries, historic monuments, shopping malls and open-air fairs. At night, the lights of bars and restaurants come on to illuminate an unforgettable selection of dining and entertainment options.

Buenos Aires—a creative capital—has captured everyone’s attention for locally produced design, art and content. In 2005, UNESCO declared Buenos Aires a city of design as part of its Creative Cities Network. There are several creative districts (Audiovisual, Arts, Technology and Design) where the production of creative contents and services are concentrated.

Buenos Aires is the cradle of tango. The magic of its melodies can be felt in every corner of local neighborhoods La Boca, San Telmo, Abasto, Boedo and Almagro, capturing the hearts of visiting tourists from around the world. Tango classes, live shows and the “Buenos Aires Tango Festival and World Championship” are just a few of the options to experience the 2x4 rhythm firsthand.

RECOGNIZED IN THEACADEMIC COMMUNITYBuenos Aires is internationally recognized for the academic level of its public and private institutions, and its experience in research & development. Each year, students from around the world come to study. With nine public universities and 20 private universities, the city offers the appropriate facilities for national and international conferences.

GREEN AND PUREIts parks and green spaces invite you to enjoy outdoors alone or with others. Public squares with rose gardens and lakes, the Botanical Garden, the Japanese Garden, the flower park, Thays Park, Tres de Febrero Park and Ecological Reserve are some of the options to spend an afternoon relaxing outdoors, surrounded by nature.

DISCOVER BUENOS AIRES

Visitors will always find something new and thrilling to discover in this city.

SEE THE CITY

The street corners, public squares and buildings of the San Nicolás and Monserrat neighborhoods are saturated with the city’s history. From the mythical Plaza de Mayo, you can see the Casa Rosada (House of Government), the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Cabildo. At the end of Diagonal Sur, the Obelisk gives way to the Corrientes and 9 de Julio Avenues, a classic postcard image of the city. Nearby is the imposing Colon Theater, one of the ten best opera houses in the world, renowned for its acoustics and the artistic value of its building. On Corrientes Avenue, the night vibrates between the marquees of the theaters, record and bookstores and many options to enjoy a tasty meal.

In the neighborhoods of La Boca, San Telmo and Balvanera, discover the feeling of the city’s outskirts. The Riachuelo River, with the old Avellaneda Bridge and the Caminito street fair reflect the roughness of the port, just as the artist Quinquela Martin painted it in the early twentieth century. Moving toward the city center, the majestic Bombonera stadium of Boca Juniors football team interrupts the landscape of low houses. Past Lezama Park is Plaza Dorrego, at the heart of San Telmo, famous for its Sunday antiques fair. Going deeper into the city, you reach the Abasto, a mythical neighborhood and home to the tango singer Carlos Gardel. There, you can visit the passageway, monument and museum dedicated to this tango legend.

HISTORIC BA

Make the most of your visit to Buenos Aires with these itineraries, which combine small samples of the heritage and charm that make the city so unique

There is no better way to understand why Buenos Aires is nicknamed “the Paris of South America” than a stroll through the neighborhoods of Retiro and Recoleta. From the San Martin Square you can see the Kavanagh, a rationalist-style building declared World Heritage Architecture Site by UNESCO. On Alvear Avenue, you can see emblematic works of neoclassicism and art nouveau, including mansions and stately homes, and luxury hotels. At the end of this street are the public square Plaza Francia; the Basilica of Our Lady of Pilar and Recoleta Cementary, a national landmark that houses famous vaults and mausoleums.

In Puerto Madero, the old docks of red bricks were converted into modern office buildings, alongside cutting-edge design complexes. In this neighborhood, water and women are the protagonists; among its monuments is the Fountain of the Nereids, by the sculptor Lola Mora, and the Bridge of the Woman, designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. At Dock 3, you can visit the Frigate Sarmiento, now a museum. Art also takes place along these river banks. Faena Arts Center, built in the former engine room of a mill, offers a program of experimental and international exhibits; the Fortabat Art Collection, showcases jewels from artists like Breughel, Turner and Warhol. For a relaxing, outdoor option, the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is a protected area where numerous plant and animal species are preserved.

MODERN BA

Palermo’s unique and original style distinguishes it from the rest of the city. The neighborhood has an aristocratic side, known as Palermo Chico, delimited by Ave. Del Libertador and a densely wooded area and park. On Sarmiento Avenue is the Planetarium Galileo Galillei, where visitors can see about 8,900 stars, planets and satellites of the universe in the hemispherical projection theater. On Ave. Del Libertador, you can enjoy traditional equestrian culture at the Argentine Polo Field and Palermo Race Track. Around Cortázar Square is the area of Palermo Viejo, where designers of clothing, furniture and objects display their production. Between the avenues Juan B. Justo, Santa Fe, Cordoba and Dorrego, there is a gastronomic center. The area is nicknamed Palermo Hollywood for the high concentration of television and film producers.

SIGNATURE BA

Flores is the neighborhood that gave birth to His Holiness Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, in 1936. Here he worked to help those who were the neediest.Every Thursday, around 3pm, a walking tour leaves from the San José de Flores Church (6950 Rivadavia Avenue) and visits the places that were part of his history. On weekends and holidays, there are guided bus tours. Visitors must make a prior reservation to participate in the walking tour: [email protected]
