Summary statement: The 2014 City budget includes funds in Public Works Equipment and Sewer Fund Equipment to purchase two trucks to replace existing older trucks. In Public Works, the new truck will replace a 1994 Chevrolet truck with utility box (odometer 111,600 miles); and in the Sewer Fund the new truck will replace a 2000 Dodge pickup truck (odometer 147,600). Each new truck will have a utility box installed on the frame. City Code section 3.21.240, Joint Purchasing, allows the city manager, with city council approval, to make purchases using a cooperative purchasing process in which other governmental units have used a competitive bidding process. In this case, the State of Alaska competitively bid for pickup trucks. Cal Worthington Ford was the low bidder for this type of truck with a gas engine at $24,405. The total cost of each truck ($33,856) includes the addition of a utility box for each truck rather than a pickup truck bed. Administration recommendation: Approve action memorandum 14-057.
