If you would like more information about the C.J. Strike Wildlife Management Area lands owned and managed by Idaho Power, we invite you to visit our Web site — www.idahopower.com — that provides more detail about the WMA and our plans for its use today and in the future. IDF&G has additional information about the entire WMA on their Web site: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/wild life/wma/cj/.

SignageIt is our goal that every visitor to the WMA has an enjoyable experience. To that end we ask that all visitors obey boundary markers, non-motorized vehicle areas and safety zones in which no shooting is allowed.

New signage has been set up to help you more fully understand the WMA and the boundaries of Idaho Power’s property.

WelcomeC.J. StrikeThis brochure and map have been developed to help you better enjoy Idaho Power’s property within the C.J. Strike Wildlife Management Area (WMA).

Most areas within the WMA are accessible for recreational purposes, however certain areas within the WMA are closed to the public during waterfowl and upland game bird nesting seasons. Please obey all signs that indicate the boundaries of these areas.

Idaho Power and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDF&G) jointly manage the C.J. Strike WMA. Idaho Power maintains and manages lands owned by the company within the WMA. IDF&G is responsible for wildlife management throughout the entire area, including pheasant releases, predator control, and enforcement of fish and game laws, as well as land management for the remainder of the WMA.

In 2005, Idaho Power assumed management of the 3,000 acres it owns within the C.J. Strike WMA. It did so as one of the terms of the company’s federal license to operate the C.J. Strike Dam.

Our goal is to improve these lands for both wildlife and for those who wish to use our property for recreation, including hunting and fishing. Working in close coordination with neighboring land owners and the IDF&G, we are making incremental changes that will result in improved wildlife habitat on our land. Ultimately we believe these changes will enhance hunting and recreational experiences.

We have made improvements to the Bruneau River Lower and Jack’s Creek West sportsmen’s access points and have cultivated more than 40 acres for food plot production. More changes are planned in the future for the benefit of this area.

In 2007, Idaho Power will have a permanent presence within the WMA. The company will construct a new headquarters to house Idaho Power staff, IDF&G employees and an Owyhee County Sheriff’s officer.

Overnight CampingPlanning to overnight at one of the Idaho Power camping areas in the C.J. Strike WMA? Besides the three main campgrounds located near the Strike Dam, Idaho Power offers camping at Cottonwood Park and Jack’s Creek.

Idaho Power limits stays at all of its formal campgrounds to 14 consecutive days. Please obey all posted campground rules and remember to keep all motorized vehicles at or under the posted speed limit.

Cottonwood ParkVisitors are advised that no potable water is available at Cottonwood Park as testing has determined the park’s water system is unsafe to drink.

Idaho Power is developing long-range plans to upgrade the camping facilities and expects that it will have those improvements, including a new water system, in place by 2009.

Jack’s CreekJack’s Creek camping area is located within a wildlife production area. For the safety of all, the discharging of firearms from or across roads is prohibited. Please obey all posted rules.

Anglers will have greater fishing opportunities because Idaho Power has begun planting 80,000 trout in C.J. Strike Reservoir. This fish stocking operation is a condition of the company’s federal license and will continue on an annual basis.
