INTRODUCCION
La idea de este trabajo surgi6 al detectarse la necesidad de
contar con una gu!a para el desarrollo equilibrado de las
c~lecciones bibliogr~ficas en el Area de matem~ticas. El proyecto
se realiz6 t~niendo en mente aquellas instituciones educativas que
requieren un fuerte apoyo bibliografico en el Area que nos ocupa, I
en las cuales se imparten las licenciaturas en, ingenieria,
quimica, flsica o especificamente matematicas.
Actualmente en Mexico se ha manifestado el interes por
irr~·ulsar el estudio de las materna tic.as. Ademas de los
tradicionales centros - de enseflanza existentes Jen el Distri to
Federal, -Universidad Nacional Aut6noma de Mexico, Universidad
Aut6noma Metro~olitana e Instituto Politectinco Nacional-, en los
Dltimos afios otras instituciones, en provincia se han incorpor~do
al estudio de este campo. Este es el case de las Universidades de
Durango, Guanajuato, Nuevo Le6n, Puebla, Sonora, Yucatan y el
Sistema de Institutes Tecnol6gicos. La presente bibliografia
pretende ser un apoyo al esfuerzo que realizan las instituciones
antes mencionadas.
Sbn objetivos primordiales de esta obra: Sugerir a los
estudiantes del area los materiales basicos y complementarios para
sus programas de estudio, y presentar a los maestros de

matcm~ticas obras que son un importante apoyo para el desarrollo .
de su labor docente y seguramente tarnbi~n de inter~s para su
ejercicio profesional.
La selecci6n de rnateriales fue un proceso que no se lirnit6
unicc-<IIt·::mte al usc de las herrarnientas bibliograficas que en estes
cEsoa auxilian al bibliotecario profesional, sino que adem~s se
cont6 con la colaboraci6n de maestros que actualmente irnparten
curses en la Licenciatura en Maternaticas de la Escuela de
Hat6n~ticas de la Universidad de Guanajuato. Dichos catedraticos
fcrman asimisrno parte del cuerpo de investigadores del Centro de
Investigaci6n en Matematicas A.C.
La posibilidad que pese al esfuerzo realizado, se hayan
ornitido algunas obrai irnportantes, no queda descartada. Sin
embargo considerarnos que este trabajo puede ser enriquecido por
el ~crsonal bibliotecario y , docente de las instituciones ' I
educativas a quienes dirigirn1s esta bibliografia.
En el campo de las matematicas tarnbien se han notado los
efectos de la explosi6n bibli9grafica o sobreabundancia de
informaci6n. Dadas las actuales condiciones econ6micas del pais,
es necesario proceder con mayor cautela en el desarrollo de las
colecciones bibliograficas. Lo anteriorrnente expuesto nos impulsa
a presenter un minima de obras recomendadas con caracter de nucleo
bAsico y otras que lo complementan y cuya adquisici6n tambien es
conveniente, cuando los recursos financieros asi lo permitan.

A pesar de que en nuestro pais se cuenta con personal
acad~mico calificado en lo que a matemAticas' se refiere, su
producci6n y publicaci6n de libros de texto, a nivel profesional
es reducida. A esta circunstancia se debe que la mayoria de los
titulos incluidos· en el presente trabajo son de origen extranjero
y un porcentaje elevado de ellos estAn publicados en ingles.
Mientras que no se supere el problema de la poca producci6n
en espa~ol de libros de matemAticas a nivel licenciatura, las
fuentes de consulta en nuestro idioma seguiran siendo escasas,
limitadas y quiza en algunos ~asos obsoletas. Es por ello
importante que la barrera no sea un obstaculo insalvable el cual
impida que el estudiante o profesionista pueda aprovechar lo que
s·~ ha l:mblicado en otros paises y as.i tener la llave de la puer-ta
de acceso hacia un horizonte mas amplio dentro den mundo de la
informaci6n cientifica ..

Los tftulos contenidos en este trabajo son 706 y .se I
encuentran~ distribuidos en 18 ternas principaies; a cada obra se le
asign6 un numero progresivo. El 1ndice se hizo por autor y se
• incluy6 el titulo y el numero ant~s mencionado para facilitar ·el
uso de esta bibliograf1a.
