Principal’s News

Welcome to Week 4 and after a very busy start to the term and

a frantic Education Week, we quieten down a bit this week! I

would like to thank our wonderful students, our fabulous staff,

our parents and school community for a brilliant 2018 Education

Week. We were able to celebrate the successes of our beautiful

students, showcase our school, celebrate school programs and

initiatives and recognise the amazing role that Public Schools

play each and every day to enhance the lives of students. I

have had countless emails, phone calls and comments

expressing thanks, gratitude and congratulating me on our fine

school. Well done Clarence Town Public School.

Last week we introduced and trialled several new and ongoing initiatives to support school programs and student attendance. Thank you to parents and Carers who have supported these initiatives and trials. Updates include:

Clarence Town Public School Facebook page is up and running

Our SMS absence alert messaging had a few glitches in the first week and Mrs Price has worked with the provider to ensure these are resolved quickly. Parents will be notified by text message if their child is absent that day and can reply promptly to ensure all students are accounted for.

We are currently negotiating with a Bullying Foundation to coordinate events and talks for our students.

Further information about these initiatives will be in upcoming newsletters. During the 2nd half of this term we are also hoping to establish:

Reading boxes in the community, containing books for children of all age to borrow and return – this will help support reading in our community and offer many families who cannot access the local Libraries an opportunity to borrow and read quality book.

Garden boxes in the community, where our local community can read about what we are doing at Clarence Town Public School, offer recipes for our Kitchen Garden Produce, offer gardening tips and advice and donate seeds, seedlings, cuttings or gardening tools.

If you are able to assist with either of these projects please contact the school. We are currently calling for 2019 Kindergarten Enrolments and we have 26 names thus far, with more calls and enquiries each day. We will begin Kinder Interviews this week and these will proceed for several weeks, before our Kindergarten Orientation Evening in the last week of Term.

Our School Assembly will be held this Wednesday 15 August 2018 starting at 2:15pm. Everyone is Welcome!!

The Tawny 5 Rules:

I can listen

I can put up my hand and wait

I can work quietly

I can follow instructions

I can control what I do and say

The School motto: Kindness Honesty Effort

The Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Values: Learning Safety Respect

Through working together we create the best opportunities and learning experiences for all our students. Have a great week Louise Blakemore

At School this week: Tuesday 14 August – Dance2bFit K-6 (Term 3 Sport) Tuesday 14 August – Life Skills Program K-6 (Term 3 Personal development & Health Program) Wednesday 15 August – Weekly Assembly: Stage 3 Public Speaking Competition begins this week. Thursday 9 August – Stage 3 Drum Corp

I have a very busy week this week, starting the Kinder 2019 Interviews and I will be out of school for a short time tomorrow morning to attend a funeral. Mrs Price and I have several Adobe Connect presentations to do this week in relation to the DoE Human Resource Migration to a new System. This is the next step in the transition to the DoE new Finance and HR computer systems. This will affect some processes within the school leading up to the end of August and once again we ask for your patience if processing takes a little long than usual. On Wednesday Miss Ellis and I will be travelling to Dubbo for the Effective Early Years of School Conference. Mrs Oldfield will be acting Principal and Mrs Wade and Miss Bunn will be teaching ES1E. Money Direct to the Office Please: The Department of Education is currently reviewing its policy around money handling in Public Schools. More information on how this will impact our school will follow in future newsletters, until then, cash payments for excursions and school related business should be brought directly to the office rather than handed in to the class teacher. Thank you for your assistance with this. We also have a letter box near the canteen side door for recess and lunch orders.

We are constantly reminding students of our PBL Values and school motto along with our Tawny 5 Rules and I would also encourage parents to use these words when celebrating positive behaviour and discussing negative choices with your child.

Kinder Enrolments: To assist with our planning for 2019 and Kinder Orientation sessions, if you or someone you know has a child intending to start Kindergarten at Clarence Town PS next year could you please contact the office to register your child. PSSA Boys & Girls Touch Football Round 1

On Friday 3 August Clarence Town's Boys & Girls touch football team took on Seaham at

Clarence Town oval in round 1 of the PSSA touch football knockout competition. The girls played

first with their match starting slowly as both sides took time to get used to playing touch football.

Unfortunately it didn't take long before Seaham found their rhythm and crossed over for their first

scoring play. Over the remaining minutes of the first half Seaham were able to cross for another

6 scoring plays and lead the game 7-0 at the half time break. In the second half our girl's team

were far more competitive with their true skills finally being put on display. Chloe Flannery

crossed for a long distance scoring play early in the second half and this was followed by 2

fantastic solo tries scored by Gemma Sellers. Seaham were also able to cross for 4 second half

scoring plays and the match finished at 11-3. In the boys game the match commenced with both

sides trading some wonderful attacking plays to take the ball up and down the field very easily.

Once again after some sustained attacking play Seaham were able to register their first scoring

play of the half. Over the remaining minutes of the half Seaham were able to register another 5

scoring plays with the first half finishing at 6-0. In the second half our boys gave their very best to

mount a courageous fight back, but the sustained attacking play of Seaham was just too much

for our side to handle. Harry Boyton and Jacob both crossed the line in the second half for some

consolation scoring plays for Clarence Town. The game finished with Seaham being successful

14-2. Both Clarence Town sides should have learned many important lessons about playing

touch football on Friday and hopefully these can be utilised in future encounters. All players

should be proud of their efforts and should be congratulated on representing their school in a fine

manner!

Education Week Open Day

Dungog & District Community of Schools – News Update for

Together we can achieve great things

Vision: To create a K-12 focus for teaching and learning in the Dungog & District Community of Schools.

Our Community of Schools partner schools participated in our Combined Education Week Award Ceremony last week, where students, staff, community members and school programs were recognised and each school gave a performance.

We were fortunate to have our Director, Educational Leadership, Mr John Millburn, present and address the assembly. I received the following email from him after the event:

“…Thanks so much for the invite to your wonderful education week reception and celebration. Please

pass my congratulations onto your organising team, the principals in your network and the entire group

of teachers who work so hard to create the showcase that was evident at the celebration.

It is times like these that reinforce my belief that we have an awesome education system that really cares

about kids, provides opportunities for all and certainly prepares them as future citizens.”

Our D&DCoS is a very effective and efficient team and the opportunities that are being offered to our students support individual school programs and initiatives so that together we do create great things!
