Message from the Clark Center Director Dear members of the SUNY Cortland community,
The Clark Center for International Education would like
to thank you for the great work done during the fall
2013 semester to internationalize the campus. We had
18 different events for the International Celebration
Month organized by 20 different units on campus. The
events took the students, faculty, and community
members on journeys to explore the Arab Spring in the
Middle East, life in East Germany as portrayed in
movies, Bollywood and South Korean music, gender
studies in Ghana, life of a Guatemalan Mayan family,
and potential international jobs, to name just a few.
As every year around this time, the Clark Center for
International Education gives the Clark Center
Internationalization Award to a member of our
community that has done an impressive work to
promote international education at SUNY Cortland and
in the community. The 2013 recipient of the Clark
Center Internationalization Award is Sharon Steadman,
Professor of Anthropology in the Sociology /
Anthropology Department at SUNY Cortland. Please
click here for more information about the International
Celebration Month 2013 and for photos from the
events.
Finally, I’d like to wish you to enjoy the last weeks of
classes and exams for the fall 2013 semester and
Happy Holidays!
You will hear back from the International Education
Newsletter in spring 2014, as this is the last issue for
the fall 2013 semester!

The movie is a 2005
European co-production

events in the world’s
history: the Christmas
Truce of 1914. A few
months after the start of
World War I, British,
Prussian, and French
soldiers and officers on
the Western Front
declared a truce to
celebrate the holidays
together. The movie
depicts the triumph of
humanity and the revolt
of the people against a
senseless war that no
one, but their political
leaders, thought
necessary to fight.
