They will be in the Fellowship Hall bright and early on April 1st whipping up your breakfast favorites and then serving from 8:45-10:00am. Sunday School classes will be held from 10:05-10:45am that day in hopes that more will be able to join us and then be able to stay for our 11:00 Morning Worship Service. Our Sun-

day evening services will be dismissed.

Start inviting your family, friends and neighbors to come and experience the joyous occasion of Jesus our Saviour’s res-urrection! Our annual Egg Hunt will be Saturday, March 31st, from 11:00am-12:00 noon so invite those kiddos & parents!

Through Your Eyes Through Your Eyes   There’s a Christian pop artist named Britt Nicole that Allison is a big fan of. One of the things that I really appreciate about her is the level of focus she has in her songs on giving girls the proper perspective they should have about themselves. On her most recent album, she has a song called “Through Your Eyes” where the chorus says:  

'Cause you stood right there and then you broke apart the lies. You told me I had something beautiful inside. You brought to life the part of me I thought had died. 'Cause you stood right there until I saw me, I saw me through your eyes 

It emphasizes how you should view yourself through His eyes and how big of a paradigm shift that will be for how you perceive yourself. I think it’s a great point that she makes, but it’s really just the tip of the iceberg. One of the things that God has impressed upon me repeatedly of late is that we need to make a point of viewing everything, not just ourselves, through His eyes. If we will do so it will dramatically alter our actions and reactions. Here are a few small examples of what I’m talking about. 

In Psalm 24 it talks about how the Earth is the Lord’s and everything and everyone in it. If we will look at our lives, families and possessions through His eyes we will see that they all belong to Him and we are just stewards looking out for them. All too often though we view our pos‐sessions and families as things that belong to us. It reminds me of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. There’s a nation, Gondor, that is with‐out a king and a steward is put in charge of overseeing it. When there are rumors that the rightful heir to the throne may be returning, the steward seethes as though it is his nation and he should continue to rule, when he never had that right. We do that all the time. We see our possessions as ours and therefore anything that happens has a far greater impact on us than it should. What would happen if we acknowl‐

edged that it all belongs to God? Wouldn’t that change the narrative substantially? How different does it feel to say “Why did that tree fall on my house?! Why did I deserve this?” versus saying “Lord, I’m not sure why you wanted a tree on your house, but I trust that You have a plan and that You will provide for us in the meantime.” It’s amazingly freeing to acknowledge His role and ownership of it all. It also makes it much eas‐ier to cast our cares on Him since the cares are not our own.  

Another example of seeing things through His eyes is marriage. Biblical marriage is a covenant between hus‐band and wife where God has brought them together. The Bible then says that what God has brought to‐gether, let no man separate. When challenges and conflicts arise, how different does it feel to say “You don’t meet my wants and needs and so I will look elsewhere for someone who does” versus saying “God has brought us together and there isn’t an ‘out clause’ so how can we deal with this in a way that will resolve this, honor God, and strengthen us going forward?” It’s a stark contrast. That is how we are to see it. Our marriages are not primarily for our fulfillment, but they are a testimony to the world about Him. Marriage serves the purpose of showing the world how God loves his church, looks out for it, and will come for it again. Those perspective changes will significantly alter our actions and attitudes.  

A final example has to do with how we interact with our brothers and sisters in Christ at church. In a Bible study group I am a part of, we were recently discussing the handling of frustrations that can often arise in churches. There were examples of things that just bug us because of how we think things should be done,

but what stuck out to me was the discussion of how something bothered someone because it could nega‐tively impact what was going on spiritually in someone else’s life around them. That’s the proper perspective when we are looking through God’s eyes. It’s something that we should evaluate as issues arise at church. How differently would conflict be resolved if we were to weigh each situation using questions such as: How important is this in the light of eternity? How impactful could this be on the eternal outlook for the people involved? Can this be positively or nega‐tively impactful to the purpose of the church? How should I address this so that it is the most beneficial for the individ‐ual as well as the church? Is now the time to address this or could it negatively impact someone’s ability to worship and hear the Word? It is amazing how different our interactions could be if we view everything through God’s eternal perspective and temper our actions accordingly. 

If we all start really attempting to view our lives through God’s eyes, I believe it could cause a seismic shift in our relationships and how we perceive the world around us. I also think it could cause an even greater seis‐mic shift in how the world views the church.                       In Christ Alone,                      Jamie

exãÉäxÇ After Jen Hatmaker’s dog shredded an heirloom baby blanket, she piled up the dirty yarn and asked her mother‐in‐law to somehow reassemble the original. In Of Mess and Moxie (Nelson Books), Hatmaker explains how this is a picture of God’s sovereign work.   

When our lives are tattered by sin and suffering, God doesn’t start from scratch or create a rep‐lica. Instead, he uses the origi‐nal threads to reweave a stronger version and to restore beauty. (Interestingly, when Joseph tells his brothers in Genesis 50:20 [ESV], “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good,” the word meant is Hebrew for wove.)  

 

“Nothing bears a better witness than watching God resurrect some‐one’s life,” writes Hatmaker. “That is a God who folks want to know, a God worth his glory.”

GENERATION 412 March 2018 What are the youth up to?

In February, the youth continued their mission to view God rightly. This included them learning about such characteristics like God’s love, God’s Mercy, God’s wrath, and God’s Justice. We also took a week looking at apologetics taught by Mark Wayne which was awe-some! In February, the youth also were very active in reaching out and serving. They went out around the neighborhood and passed out flyers for the big game party. Another activity that the youth helped with in service to those in our church was the parent’s night out. That event was a blast and everyone had such a great time. Lastly, many of our ladies in the youth went to a women’s conference in Springfield, MO which was a fruitful time of bonding and growing in their faith together.

Question of the month concerning Gen 412 Q. How can I help the youth? A. Prayer is always appreciated! I invite everyone to pray for each of our youth regularly for spiritual growth and also their lives in school and at home as they can be stressful.

Thought of the month This month I wanted to talk about love, specifically the love that we should have towards our brothers and sisters in Christ. The above verse is a crucial verse in dealing with the topic of love in the church between believers. That verse plainly tells us to love one another beause love comes from God and that those who love are born of Him and know Him. In the church, too often I believe we miss this or just shrug it off because its easier to ignore someone or act like someone doesn’t exist. That is an entirely wrong attitude, we are called to love ALL of those who are in our church and that means even the ones who get on your nerves or don’t think the same way as you or fill in the blank. We as Christians and members of Christ’s church do not get to pick and choose who we love. John makes this abundantly clear if we keep reading in 1 John 4, specifically verse 20, John says that if we say we love God and yet don’t love our brother or sister we are liars and cannot love God. So my encouragement for us is to look at those in our church and ask ourselves, “Do I really love EVERYONE here?” “Do I show it?” And if your answers are not a resounding “YES,” then repent and start actively loving those God has placed around you. This means acknowledge them, pray for them, help them when they need it, and do it all from a place of genuine Christ-like love for that per-son, not obligation. In Christ, Austin, Dani, and Gen 412

The VBS Theme for 2018… June 4th ‐ 8th 

6:00 ‐ 9:00pm Dinner @ 5:30 

Age 4 through 5th grade  

Yep, I’m one of those: last to be picked for any playground or P.E. game; prefers books to balls; doesn’t know a tight end from a split end. You, too? Don’t walk off the field just yet—you are the one God chose for your position on the VBS team! He recruited you to help kids discover how pre‐cious they are to Jesus! 

 

In day one's story, some people needed a sharply pointed reminder that everyone is precious to Jesus. At that time, the religious leaders recognized only two teams in the league: Winners (themselves) and Sinners (just about everyone else). The Sinners’ lineup included tax collectors, people who did not follow Old Tes‐tament rules closely enough, and people deemed to be under God’s judgment because of a physical ail‐ment.  

“This man welcomes sinners!” the Pharisees groused. Can you see their sneers and hear their contempt? Jesus surely did, and told them the story you’ll share with kids today. It’s about a shepherd who did not rest until his entire flock—every last one—was safely home.  

Artists’ renderings of this parable often show the Good Shepherd tenderly carrying a small, shivering, be‐wildered lamb on His shoulders. Perhaps that is what Jesus had in mind. But did you ever consider that lost sheep could have been the muleheaded, perpetually cantankerous one that ran from the Shepherd rather than to Him? (I’m praying for one of those. Perhaps you are, too.)  

Jesus passionately loves the lost little ones, but He pursues the stubborn big ones, too! No one is too lost to receive Jesus’ love. No “sheep” is so far gone that He refuses to go after it. (You may need that re‐minder after a week with wild and woolly children.) My prayer is that in this time leading up to VBS, you’ll see each of these kids through the Shepherd’s eyes!

Shoes in ChurchShoes in Church  Author not found   

I showered and shaved................ I adjusted my tie. I got there and sat................ In a pew just in time. Bowing my head in prayer............ As I closed my eyes. I saw the shoe of the man next to me....... Touching my own. I sighed. With plenty of room on either side......... I thought, 'Why must our soles touch?' It bothered me, his shoe touching mine…... But it didn't bother him much. A prayer began: 'Our Father'............. I thought, 'This man with the shoes, has no pride. They’re dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!' 'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on. The shoe man said................. A quiet 'Amen.' I tried to focus on the prayer....... But my thoughts were on his shoes again.... Aren't we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door? 'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, glancing toward the floor. Then the prayer was ended............ And the songs of praise began. The shoe man was certainly loud...... Sounding proud as he sang. His voice lifted the rafters........ His hands were raised high. The Lord could surely hear…... The shoe man's voice from the sky. It was time for the offering........ And what I threw in was steep. I watched as the shoe man reached.... Into his pockets so deep. I saw what was pulled out.......... What the shoe man put in. Then I heard a soft 'clink' as when silver hits tin. The sermon really bored me.......... To tears, and that's no lie. It was the same for the shoe man….. For tears fell from his eyes. At the end of the service........ As is the custom here. We must greet new visitors……. And show them all good cheer. But I felt moved somehow........... And wanted to meet the shoe man. So after the closing prayer........ I reached over and shook his hand. He was old and his skin was dark....... And his hair was truly a mess….... But I thanked him for coming.......... For being our guest... He said, 'My name’s Charlie............ I'm glad to meet you, my friend.' There were tears in his eyes......... But he had a large, wide grin…... 'Let me explain,' he said............. Wiping tears from his eyes. 'I've been coming here for months...... And you're the first to say 'Hi.' 'I know that my appearance...........Is not like all the rest. 'But I really do try....................To always look my best.' 'I always clean and polish my shoes... Before my very long walk.' 'But by the time I get here........They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.' My heart filled with pain............ And I swallowed to hide my tears. As he continued to apologize.......... For daring to sit so near. He said, 'When I get here............ I know I must look a sight.' 'But I thought if I could touch you......  Then maybe our souls might unite.' I was silent for a moment............. Knowing whatever was said Would pale in comparison.... I spoke from my heart, not my head 'Oh, you've touched me,' I said....... 'And taught me, in part' 'That the best of any man..............Is what is found in his heart.' The rest, I thought............... This shoe man will never know. Like just how thankful I really am.... That his dirty old shoe touched my soul.

I really struggled with what to write this month for many reasons. I came across this poem awhile back and have had it saved on my IPad. It got me to thinking about many things—how we judge people for what they wear and or don’t wear to church or how people worship during service. It made me think “Am I greeting the people who walk into our doors?” I pray that no one ever leaves CBC without being greeted whether you are a life long member or a visitor!  

Do we walk in the doors and start murmuring, “I wonder how long the pastor is going to preach today” instead of “I wonder what word God has given our pastor” Or “I wonder what God will speak to me today.” Or thoughts of, “This music isn’t what I like or is too loud” instead of “How does this music bring me closer to the foot of the cross.” Or do we come to hear or spread the latest gossip.  

It makes me think more & more and pray more, that I see what is in the heart NOT in appearance. It makes me think of why I come to church. Yes, we all live busy lives BUT shouldn’t we give God our first and best? Shouldn’t we come to church with open hearts expecting God to speak to us? When was the last time that you asked God to show you something from Him in worship? Or Sunday School?   

Have you set a good example for your children and grandchildren of the importance of worship and that it isn’t something you check off the list to say “I went today?” I don’t ever want to tell God that I have other things that take first place and I will squeeze Him in between events or when it is convenient. I don’t want to say to the King of Kings that the groceries or sleep or_______________ (fill in the blank) is more important than worship‐ing Him with other believers. I want to make God a priority and line my week up with Him! I want to go on Wednesday nights and say “Lord, refresh me and help me make it through the rest of the week!” (Have you ever hit Wednesday and it is a struggle? I have!) I wanted my kids to have that as well. Even when they were slammed with homework and tests, it was a better break than TV. It was their leaders pouring into them scrip‐tures and encouragement to continue to stay strong, laugh with them and to pray over them.   

We have all realized that we aren’t going to live forever and we don’t know when God is going to call us home. Teach your children that the church IS IMPORTANT and to give God the respect and honor He deserves. Teach your children that church isn’t some‐where you turn to only when you are having problems.   

Psalm 95:6— Oh, come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker.

I enjoy watching the Olympics, both summer and winter. The Winter Olympics are being played in South Ko‐rea, and despite the potential for much political nonsense (of which there has been some), I have once again been enjoying watching the various sports. Now, I must admit that after the Calgary games, I became inter‐ested in curling. I think it is my favorite of all the sports in the winter games. Once they said it originated in 

Scotland, I was hooked! I still watch many of the oth‐ers, but I will record curling to be sure I don’t miss specific games.  

Alongside watching the games, I like hearing the back story of some of the athletes, especially from our brothers and sisters in Christ. Going all the way back to the story of the UK (Scotland) track runner, Eric Liddell, of Chariots of Fire and The Flying Scotsman fame, I enjoy hearing the testimonies of these fellow believers. So, let me share a few of the testimonies I found online from a few of this year’s athletes: 

 

Kelly Clark (Snowboarding Halfpipe)  

Few people ever get to compete in one Winter Olympics. For Kelly Clark, PyeongChang will be her fifth. Sixteen years ago, Clark was only 18 as she won gold in the halfpipe at the Salt Lake City games. She’s since picked up two more medals—halfpipe bronze in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. Now 34, Clark will become the first U.S. snowboarder to compete in five Olympics, joining up‐and‐coming stars Chloe Kim and Maddie Mastro—at 17, literally half Clark’s age—in going for halfpipe gold.   

After she achieved fame and success in the 2002 Olympics, Clark found her life lacking meaning and ful‐fillment. At 20, she overheard a conversation in which four words caught her attention: “God still loves you.” Clark couldn’t shake these words, which set her on a path to accept Jesus Christ, changing the course of her life and giving her a new identity.  

“I started to understand that I didn’t get my worth from people or from the things that I did,” Clark said. “It was from Christ. If I hadn’t had that shift in my life, I think my world would have come crumbling down.”  

Katie Uhlaender (Skeleton)  

“It is all about letting go and finding speed by generating momentum with your body.”  

That’s how Katie Uhlaender described the (insane) sport of skeleton, where athletes lie face down on a sled and race down an icy track at speeds reaching 80 miles per hour.   

But it could also describe Uhlaender’s approach to life in the face of adversity. The 33‐year‐old is headed to the Olympics for the fourth time, but she has yet to win a medal. In Sochi she came painfully close, missing bronze by only four‐hundredths of a second to Elena Nikitina of Russia. Then, when it appeared likely Nikitina’s medal would be stripped because of doping, the bronze seemed within Uhlaender’s grasp. But that too slipped away when an international arbitration court, on February 1, controversially overturned the ban on 28 Russian athletes accused of doping.   

Still, Uhlaender, who lost her famous father—former MLB outfielder Ted Uhlaender—to a heart attack in 2009, has tenacity and perseverance, in large part because of her faith.  

“Quitting is never an option, so why would I quit on God?” she said. “He guides me and gives me the strength to keep going.”

Gigi Marvin (Hockey)  

Since debuting as an Olympic sport in 1998, women’s hockey has been dominated by two nations: Canada and the United States. The U.S. team won gold in the event’s inaugural Olympics, but Canada has topped the podium ever since.   

Gigi Marvin was part of the U.S. team in Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, winning silver both times. She’ll be on the team for her third Olympics in PyeongChang, striving for her first Olympic gold. But for 30‐year‐old Marvin, winning on the ice is not the whole mission.  

“My mission is more than winning another medal or championship,” she told FCA Magazine. “It’s about sharing Christ and leading others to him.”  

 

In spite of her two Olympic silvers, five world championship golds, and many other accolades (including as a star player for the University of Minnesota), Marvin doesn’t let her hockey success define her.  

“I know my worth is not found in what I can achieve in this game,” she said. “Instead, my identity and value is only found in Christ, my Redeemer and Lord.”

CBC Senior Singles Meeting this month!

@ Pizza Ranch N. Oak & Vivion. 

 Car pool will leave the church @ 11:30 so if you need a ride, someone will more than likely have room for you! 

Regular meetings are the 3rd Thursday of the month at 12:00 noon from February through October.
