A “FEW” WORDS FROM FR. ROBERT

    The Coming of God

As I mentioned last week in my Words, each week during Advent I will be sharing an excerpt from

The Coming of God by Maria Boulding, a contemplative Benedictine nun in Great Britain. I read this

wonderful book each Advent to prepare for the coming of our Lord.

“In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

    and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things came into being through him,

and without him not one thing came into being. (John 1:1-3)”

“The eternal begetting of the Son who is the Father’s glory is beyond our understanding and

imagination, because it is the innermost mystery of God. Yet we can hear and speak, even of God,

because God has made us in his image, as creatures who communicate, and our clumsy efforts to

understand and love are an echo of his Word. Every movement of self-surrendering love in human

relationships, every response of beloved to lover, every real personal communication and meeting of

minds, is a shadow of that glory. Every utterance of passionate beauty proclaims it. All that we know

of the dignity and joy of parenthood on earth points towards it. Life and love in our experience are ow

and reow, giving and receiving; the more we give, the more we receive and the more there is to give,

and this is because we are a little like God. His life is not solitude, self-suciency or a frozen, static

perfection. He is eternal exchange, innite unselshness. Love is never cornered, pinned down,

halted in its ow, because it never nds a self to trap it and appropriate it. The three Persons of the

Trinity are a dance of utter delight: they exist for one another.”

    Parish Advent Penance Service

Our Parish Advent Penance Service will be held on Tuesday, December 15 at 6 p.m. It will be held either

in the church or on the football eld, depending on weather. Once the location has been determined, a

notication will go out via email and social media.

    Monday Adoration

This Monday is our Evening of Adoration for the women of the parish. This is a very hectic time for

moms so, gentlemen, please give your wives the opportunity to spend a couple of minutes of peace

with our Lord. Offer to provide supper for the family so she doesn’t have to even think about it. If you

can’t cook, pizza or McDonald’s will make you a hero! Ladies, hope to see you on Monday.

    PARISH NEWS

This week’s altar owers were donated in loving memory of

Mary Amendolia by Theresa Amendolia in remembrance of her

death anniversary; and in loving memory of Guillermo Macias by

Leonel & Denise Macias & Family.

If you would like to donate altar owers in memory of or in honor

of a loved one, please call the Parish Oce. The cost is $100.

In good times and in bad, senior Catholic

sisters, brothers, and religious order priests

have dedicated themselves to service and acts

of mercy. Today, they pray for an aching world.

Yet years of serving for little or no pay have left

    their religious communities without enough

retirement savings. Your gift to the Retirement

Fund for Religious helps provide medications,

nursing care, and other necessities. This

collection is scheduled for THIS weekend.

Each year, the Catholic Schools Collection is taken up at all

Christmas Masses to bene)t Catholic schools in the Diocese of

Savannah. Our school, St. Anne-Pacelli, will greatly bene)t from this

    collection.

Although we are not physically taking up 2nd collections during

Masses due to the pandemic, we hope you will be generous to both of

these very important collections. You may give online, drop your

donations in the collection box at Mass or mail them to the Parish

Oce. As always, thank you for your generosity, especially during

    this dicult time.

    SECOND COLLECTIONS COMING UP

THE GIFT OF BREAD & WINE

This week, the gift of Bread & Wine was donated by

Jino Jose in loving memory of his mother, Rose Jose.

It is now possible to offer the bread and wine for

Mass each Sunday. If you would like to do so, please

call the Parish Oce to schedule your weekend.

Your offering of $50 will help defray the cost.

The Knights of Columbus Council 1019 and

Assembly 176 are selling Christmas trees on

the corner of Veterans Parkway and 13th

Street. All pro)ts will go to local charities.

Hours of operation are: Weekdays from 4-7

    p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Please visit our lot and help local charities.

    STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT

    “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances;

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

    ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

This scripture reading sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always”

means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you

need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running

conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give

thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank

God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar

situations and shows our dependence on God.

Middle School Youth Group will meet this Sunday, December 13th

from 5-5:45 p.m. This will be our only December meeting. We will

not meet again until January 10th. Due to Covid, all meetings are

virtual. For more information about St. Anne’s Middle School Youth

Group, please contact Brian and Jennifer Sillitto at

    [email protected].

    ALWAYS TOGETHER AT MASS

If you can’t join us in person, we hope you and your family will join us for Mass online.

OPENING SONG: Let the King of Glory Come

    GLORIA

ALL: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you,

we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus

Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on

us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on

us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

    FIRST READING: IS 61:1-2A, 10-11

The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring glad tidings to the

poor, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, to announce a year of

    favor from the LORD and a day of vindication by our God. I rejoice heartily in the LORD, in my God is the joy of my soul;

for he has clothed me with a robe of salvation and wrapped me in a mantle of justice, like a bridegroom adorned with a

diadem, like a bride bedecked with her jewels. As the earth brings forth its plants, and a garden makes its growth

spring up, so will the Lord GOD make justice and praise spring up before all the nations. The Word of the Lord.

    ALL: Thanks be to God.

    RESPONSORIAL PSALM LK 1:46-48, 49-50, 53-54

    R. (Is 61:10b) My soul rejoices in my God.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

for he has looked upon his lowly servant. From this day all generations will call me blessed:

    R. My soul rejoices in my God.

The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation.

    R. My soul rejoices in my God.

He has lled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel for he has remembered his promise of mercy,

    R. My soul rejoices in my God.

    SECOND READING: 1 THES 5:16-24

Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ

Jesus. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophetic utterances. Test everything; retain what is good. Refrain

from every kind of evil. May the God of peace make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body,

be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also

accomplish it. The Gospel of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.

    GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

    R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor.

    R. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.

    GOSPEL: JN 1:6-8, 19-28

A man named John was sent from God. He came for testimony, to testify to the light, so that all might believe through

him. He was not the light, but came to testify to the light. And this is the testimony of John. When the Jews from

Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him to ask him, “Who are you?” He admitted and did not deny it, but admitted,

“I am not the Christ.” So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you El"ah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the

Prophet?” He answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you, so we can give an answer to those who sent us?

What do you have to say for yourself?” He said: “I am the voice of one crying out in the desert, ‘make straight the way of

the Lord,’” as Isaiah the prophet said.” Some Pharisees were also sent. They asked him, “Why then do you baptize

if you are not the Christ or El"ah or the Prophet?” John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among

you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.”

This happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. The Gospel of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

    PROFESSION OF FAITH

I believe in one God, the Father almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,

the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father

    before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

    begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;

through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

    (At the words that follow,

up to and including “and became man,” all bow)

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

    and became man.

    OFFERTORY SONG: Mary’s Song

    COMMUNION SONG: (Instrumental)

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION (For those who cannot be present)

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You

into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You

as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

    FINAL BLESSING AND DISMISSAL

RECESSIONAL SONG: Alleluia Hurry the Lord is Near

For our sake he was crucied under Pontius Pilate,

he suffered death and was buried,

and rose again on the third day

    in accordance with the Scriptures.

    He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the

dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and gloried,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins

and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
