PRAYER TO THEBLESSED VIRGIN(Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. J.M.M.

Prescribed Fire Program STILLWATER – With favorable weather conditions in place, certi-fied wild land firefighters at Saratoga National Historical Park, will undertake prescribed burning of approximately 40 acres of park land during the last two weeks of August. This “summer burn” will include the Chatfield Farm area of the Battlefield. The burns may take up to three days to complete, and the park will remain open to visitors during this time. The park has historically conducted prescribed burns in the Spring. This shift from spring to summer burning is an experimental approach to see if the application of fire at a different time will yield better results in the management of the types of plants found in the fields. It is hoped the summer burn will result in greater success in ridding the park of unwanted invasive and woody stemmed plants. If you have any questions about pre-scribed fires at Saratoga National Historical Park or park events, please contact the park’s visitor center at (518) 664-9821 x1777. (A)

This exhibit show-cases smaller “wall” size quilts, as compared to the traditional “bed” size quilts, which our members create. Piecing, appliqué, hand and machine quilting, dyeing, painting, embroidery all have a place in contemporary quilt making. (A)

2013 Library Budget AnnouncedCLIFTON PARK – The Board of Trustees of the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library has announced a 2013 budget proposal for district resident approval in a vote scheduled for September 13 at the library. The total proposed budget is $4,041,362, a 2.2% in-crease over 2012. The budget levy is $3,792,125 and is within the tax levy limit. It is estimated that the average tax rate will increase 2.68% for district residents. For a property with a market value of $250,000 the annual increase is approximately $3.99, or less than $0.34 cents per month. The proposed 2013 budget reflects the Board of Trustees’ efforts to address the current financial environ-ment while continuing to provide services, collections and pro-grams valued by the community. In addition to voting for the 2013 budget, district residents will elect five trustee positions, all trustee positions representing Halfmoon and one for Clifton Park. Cur-rent Halfmoon trustees Clifford Bueno and Deborah Curto, whose terms will expire on December 31, 2012, have announced they will not be running for re-election. The Library Board of Trustees is made up of eleven elected representatives, seven from Clifton Park and four from Halfmoon. Trustees serve a five-year term and are elected by their town’s residents. Due to the upcoming vacancies of all four Halfmoon positions, interested Halfmoon residents are strongly urged to run for election to these seats. The library budget vote and trustee election will be held on Thursday, September 13 at the library, located at 475 Moe Road between 7am-9pm. Reg-istered voters, both renters and property owners, living in the Li-brary District are eligible to vote. Voters must be registered at least 30 days prior to the vote. Absentee ballot applications are available online at www.cphlibrary.org or at the library for those unable to vote in person on September 13. (A)

Certain myths about auto-mobiles have been around as long as there have been cars on the road. Many drivers adhere to driving and repair theories out of sheer force of habit, without ever know-ing if these strategies are legitimate. Here are some common myths revealed and debunked.

* High-octane gas improves performance in all vehicles. Most cars will not get any added benefits from the use

Debunking popular automotive mythsof high octane fuel, which is designed for higher-per-formance engines that burn hotter than those of most vehicles. Drivers will only waste their money putting in more expensive gas. Always use the fuel recommended in the owner’s manual.

* Longer cars are more stable. Many believe the lon-ger the wheelbase the more stable the car will be. But wheelbase is only one of the factors that determines a ve-

hicle’s stability and reaction time.

* Four-wheel-drive vehi-cles are invincible in poor weather. Four-wheel-drive capabilities may improve traction and handling when driving off-road or when the road conditions are not ideal. But no car is invincible when it comes to driving on snow and ice..

* Side mirrors are properly adjusted when you can see the side of the car in them. Actually, the mirrors should be adjusted so you can’t see the sides of the car. The mir-rors work in concert to allow a panoramic view around the car. This eliminates the need to turn your head to check blind spots, which takes your eyes off the road.

* Automatic braking sys-tem (ABS) was designed to shorten stopping distances.

ABS was created to give drivers the ability to steer around obstacles while brak-ing instead of spinning out of control.

* Engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles. There’s no need to change engine oil that frequently, as motor oils today are much more durable and protect engines for longer distances. Unleaded fuels and clean-burning engines typically re-quire oil changes every 7,000 to 10,000 miles, but consult your owner’s manual.

* There is a 72-hour “cool-ing off period” offered on automotive sales in the U.S. There is no such provision for auto purchases, as there is for many consumer prod-ucts and even home sale con-tracts. Once you buy a car, you’re stuck with it, no mat-ter how quickly you begin to experience buyer’s remorse.
