* Don’t be fooled by false sales. Retailers understand that a good advertised deal lures shoppers into their stores. As a result, some retailers mark up the cost of certain items in order to slash the prices for holiday sales. Even if you are saving the assumed 50 to 60 percent, the fi nal cost of the item still may be higher than normal. Comparison shop and do your research so you don’t fall victim to clever pricing.

* Do schedule time for shopping. Hectic schedules sometimes result in last-minute shopping that leads to impulse purchases. Schedule some distraction-free time for your holiday shopping so you’re less likely to rush into purchases before thinking them through.

* Do collect coupons and look for purchasing incentives. The USA is a special country, and our little piece of real estate here in Saratoga County became special in 1777 due to the events on a nearby battlefield. Whereas soldiers once traversed our landscape lining up for action against the enemy, today we live far, far away from any fighting, thanks to more than two cen-turies of sacrifice by our fighting men and women. Still, we are surrounded by Air, Army, Navy, and National Guard bases, laboratories, and other sites. C-130s fly overhead daily, providing a constant reminder of those who keep vigil over us.With this strong connection to the military, communities find many ways to honor and serve those who put their lives on the line, each a measure of their gratitude and appreciation. The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County, working with the Saratoga County Veterans Service Agency, several local radio stations and pub-lications including the Pennysaver, is conducting a drive to raise money for the Saratoga County Veterans’ Trust and Agency Fund. The effort began on Veter-ans’ Day (Nov. 11) and runs through Pearl Harbor Day (Dec. 7). Your contribution

Jack Frost’s Flurry FestivalSCHUYLERVILLE - Taking the village by storm, Jack Frost’s Flurry Festival will welcome the winter and provide a fl urry of family fun, games, activities, prizes and awards! This Free fun charged event will mark the re-opening of the Greater Schuy-lerville Youth Program at Fort Hardy Park from 1 - 4 pm, Sun-day, December 1st. The event was the brain child of Jack Frost himself! He will be on hand to MC the festivities and he is en-couraging participants to don their frosty garb. He promises to judge their frosty fashions and to crown a King, Queen, Prince, Princess and Jester for his icy court. Some competitions have trophy awards too. Admission is Free and refreshments will be available for purchase, or can be won by playing Free games. While there is no charge, Jack Frost is encouraging participants to bring a handmade snowman craft for sale in his silent auc-tion to benefi t the Greater Schuylerville Youth Program. Jack also thinks it would be nice for those who can to bring canned food items to share with our local pantry. This event brings families together for warm winter memories and rich Kodak moments. This is a low tech, high energy old fashioned winter carnival. Jack will be dispensing bottled northwind to players to improve their chances of being winners at the games.
