Teaching and Learning in ClonturkThe teachers here have a teaching and learning folder on the one note platform. Teachers will add T and L resources to this folder for everyone to apply in their own classrooms.

The teachers apply these proven strategies in their classrooms every month and write a short reflection on how this benefited the pupils in their classroom.

This allows us to develop a wide range of T and L techniques and to understand how our pupils learn.

Dress Code

• Clothes worn to school should be age appropriate, comfortable, clean and in good order.

• In general, clothing should cover from the neck to the knee, face must always be visible. If wearing leggings they must be worn with shorts, skirts or dresses. Shorts must be tailored – no sports shorts will be permitted.

• There must be no offensive slogans or pictures on any item of clothing.

• Underwear should not be visible.

• Torn, ripped and very tight clothing are not appropriate.

• Footwear should be flat, appropriate and not pose a safety hazard.

• Tracksuits/tracksuit bottoms/sports shorts may only be worn for PE class.

Mobile Phones

Phones are to be:

• stored in the pupils schoolbag or locker, pupils are not permitted to carry a mobile phone on their person.

• powered off when students arrive in school

• switched off until the pupil is outside the school gate after the school day.

• If a phone goes off in school the phone will be confiscated until the end of the day.

• We would ask that if your child is ill/needs to go home for a reason that they phone from the school office not from their mobile phone.

Homework

• As you are aware, homework is an important part of learning as it reinforces the material covered in class as well as providing experience in how to approach different kinds of questions and examination preparation.

• We all have a key role to play in reinforcing the importance of completing homework on a daily basis. Homework should be presented neatly and students should ensure enough time is spent on questions rather than rushing their work.

• 20 minutes per subject on average.

Zero Tolerance to Bullying• A key objective of Clonturk Community College is to make the school a safe

environment for all. Hence it is vitally important that mutual respect is one of our core values within which bullying should have no place.

• Each and every member of the school community has an important role to play in ensuring that we do everything possible to counteract bullying.

• Our Anti-Bullying Policy is closely linked to our Code of Behaviour, which is based on the concept of mutual respect.

Bullying is defined as unwanted negative behaviour, verbal, psychological or physical, conducted by an individual or group against another person (or persons) and which is repeated over time.

This definition includes cyber-bullying and identity-based bullying (such as homophobic bullying and racist bullying).

What can I do?

It is not advisable to advocate hitting back . Teach students some coping strategies

• Walk Tall

• Walk away

• Teach your child to appear confident

• Stay with friends-avoid bullies

• Avoid provoking a bully

• Take reasonable care of their belongings including their iPad

• Encourage assertiveness not aggression

• Save any abusive mobile phone message and report it to the Gardaí

It's different from my old school, but I'm

enjoying it ! At first it is hard getting used to

the new rules like calling your teachers by their first names and wearing no uniforms, but after a while you

get used to it!
