WelcomeStaffing News
We are sad to report that Elise Witman resigned her position as Food & Beverage Manager in February, as she pursues new op-portunities. With regret, we also accepted Cindy Holland’s resig-nation as Dockmaster. Cindy is returning as Boat Captain to Haig Point, but has agreed to remain on our part time (on call) staff to assist with boat handling classes, fishing tournaments or covering shifts when she is available. As some of our valued team take off to new po-sitions, we will miss their dedication, hard work and creativity. But, new doors con-tinue to open. We are thrilled that Erica Pepper, CCM will be joining our team as Food and Beverage Director on St. Pat-rick’s Day! Erica has spent the last 5 years at a neighboring bundled community as the Events Manager, Assistant Clubhouse Manager and Director of Food Service. She has her certified club manager designa-tion, and we are all excited that she will be joining our management team at Wexford!
ProjectsThe Plumbridge repair contract is in
place, and work is scheduled to begin on March 7th. The bridge will be shut down for approximately 2 weeks. We have been working closely with our property own-ers on Plumbridge as we arrange for boat transportation, a footbridge, temporary parking, emergency services and security patrol. Once again, the harbour water will be lowered by 4 feet in order to perform the bridge replacement. This is the third and final bridge requiring this type of arch replacement.
Work will be starting this month on the Tennis player and spectator seating. The first stage includes moving a part of the fencing and adding slabs for player seating. The awning manufacturer has started work on both the player and spectator seating. We have ordered an artist rendering which will be available for viewing at the Tennis Center at the beginning of this month.
The inlets along Wexford Club Drive at the 8th green to 9th tee crossing have been cleaned out. They had a 95% blockage, which contributed to the flooding incidents in Janu-ary. Work continues with the Town to install additional pipe and a pump for additional solu-tions to the stormwater flooding problems.
Dan Ogden, with the help of Mark Dryden, has reviewed the entire harbour bulkhead and identified areas where the expansion joints will be refurbished. Har-bourside property owners will be contacted in April to review and discuss their individ-ual properties and the coordinated efforts that will be required to repair the harbour wall expansion joints.
ActivitiesWith the warmer weather approaching,
we will be spending more time outdoors. Safety is one of my biggest concern, and once again, I am asking you to remember that Golf Carts can only be operated by a licensed driver at the wheel. We have not-ed many bicycles and golf carts along the Boardwalk recently, which is also unsafe.
We have added 8 new chairs at the Ter-race on the Harbour for your “rocking” pleasure. We plan to add more during the year, as we increase our usage at the Terrace for such activities as our Docktails evenings.
We have scheduled fun new activities for the month of March! Please plan to join us as we celebrate the finale of Downton Ab-bey with a Formal Tea on March 2nd. And, we are bringing the Symphony to YOU on March 12th. We’ve also got a Shag Dance Lesson planned for March 18th. And, of course, our ever-popular Spring Carnival & Easter Egg, as well as our Grand Easter Brunch Buffet. Don’t wait — make your reservations now! The Staff and I look for-ward to serving you!
Best Regards,
Susan

Hello Friends and Neighbors,
Well, winter is almost over here on the island. Not too bad this year com-
pared to the last few. I didn’t see any frozen fountains! I think almost ev-eryone got away for a few days (weeks for a few) to travel to warm weather!
I’ll take a few moments to update you on the first two months of 2016 from the Board of Director’s perspec-tive. Tasks completed to date:
Election of officers
Appointments of committee chairs
Selection of committee volunteers (not as easy as it sounds!)
Review and update of the Committee Charters
Met with Management Team to discuss, review and update the Strategic Plan (See Pages 4-5)
Financial Audit completed and reviewed (nice work to Fi-nance Team!)
Regular schedule of Board meetings and initial committee meetings.
So with this groundwork laid — where do we go from here? My answer is simple: remain aligned and coordinated with the Management Team in achievement of the metrics we updated in the 2016 Strategic Planning process.
General Manager Susan Fishel has met with her team to set their performance objectives for 2016 that also reflect and align their goals with the 2016 Strategic Plan. I strongly encourage each of us to
take 5 minutes and visit the Wexford Plantation website to re-view the 2016 Strategic Plan. It is the front page of the member website, with only one click to view the entire document.
Several of us have worked in large organizations with thou-sands of employees and recall the critical need for alignment within the organization from CEO to the front lines of the workforce. I feel confident that the efforts of previous Board of Directors, Susan Fishel and her Management Team, and the current Board of Directors have facilitated and achieved a visible, well-balanced, and viable process and strategic view to enhance our community in the near and mid-term.
Happy Spring to each of you, and good luck fighting the pollen!
Take care,
Paul

Paperwork Party Thursday, March 10th
In order to get the marina up-to-date on re-quired documentation and policy agreements, we are holding a small party for all the boat
owners. Bring your paperwork!
As of January 2015, all Wexford property owners became a member of the Wexford Yacht Club. Not only did this convey a certain amount of cachet AND invite all owners
to participate in our monthly Commodore Dock parties, but the best part of the WYC membership is that it affords you reciprocity benefits with other yacht clubs around the country.
We are a member of the Yachting Clubs of America (YCA). This membership gives us the ability to use other Yacht Clubs as if we were members there. It is important to note that you do NOT have to have a boat in order to visit another yacht club. Perhaps you want to have dinner by the water in a city you are visiting (by plane or car). If you are travelling by boat, some yacht clubs will provide limited dockage (very rare, Wexford is an exception).
So how do I pursue this wonderful benefit?First, look up the city you plan to visit and see if they have a
club that is in the reciprocal register. To do this, simply go to the Yachting Clubs of America website www.ycaol.com. Under the “Welcome Aboard” banner, you will click on the “Members Only” link. You will then be prompted to “login.” This login information is found on the Wexford Yacht Club membership card (which was mailed out last year to all prop-erty owners). Upon entering your login information, you will be taken to a page with the following links — YCA registered Yacht & Sailing Clubs or GEOGRAPHI-CAL INDEX, where you can search for yacht clubs throughout the U.S.
Here is a sample yacht club listing:
As you can see, the information is pretty basic but once you have made a choice, let me know and I will contact the club on your behalf. It is my task to introduce you with a letter of good standing. This is a necessary step. When I contact the club, I will gather all the relevant information to ensure they have no restrictions and gather any additional information you need (dress code, etc.). After that, we will send them the introduction via email and I will supply you with the original. Keep that with you along with your mem-bership card. VOILA! This will allow you to use the club as if you were a regular member there, and of course you can bring guests. The only real restrictions are (1) you must make a reservation and (2) you will not have the ability to charge to your Wexford account. Credit cards please; many of these clubs do not accept cash.
If you have any questions I am happy to help clarify the process. Who doesn’t want to visit a sailing club restaurant, usually right on the water — with some of the best views in town? It is a benefit that only a few have made use of but I hope to see more people use this as the season progresses.

Tennis Tip:
How can my partner and I defend against an aggressive style op-ponent?... Play Double Back!
So what is Double Back? The double back strategy is strictly for defensive purposes, and should be used if you and your partner are constantly being overwhelmed with their power or their passing shots, or the dreaded being lobbed to death!
The main strategy with this positioning is to return the opponent’s powerful shots or lobs until an opportunity arises to attack them (typically with a lob or an offensive shot). Staying at the baseline allows for more time to return powerful shots, as well as eliminate the chance of passing shots.
The main disadvantages of this tennis doubles strategy are angular shots in the forecourt, drop shots and the fact that your team provides no net pressure. That’s why it’s also important to change up your tennis doubles strategy during a match in order to respond to live situations that could result in your team winning the point.

Security often receives complaints from Prop-erty Owners about activities that can be a violation of Wexford Covenants — and
sometimes even the law. An example of this is the operation of golf carts. Golf cart operation is sub-ject to both Wexford Covenants and SC State Law. Two of the more serious offenses include (1) driv-ers failing to stop at stop signs and (2) speeding. Stop signs are placed at locations where the cart path intersects with a roadway; they are for your safety. Speed limit signs have been placed in several places throughout the plantation to remind you of the posted speed limit. Please be mindful of all traffic signs and obey them.
If you have a question or concern, do not hesitate to contact Wexford Security — (843) 686-8817.

The ASC would like to remind all homeowners that they need to become
familiar with the ASC Guidelines and Covenants in respect to exterior home improvements. If you are planning an exterior project, please notify the ASC for information and/or an application. Here are some common questions I receive:
Where can I find the ASC Guidelines and Covenants? Go to www.wexfordplantation.com. Click on “About Us” in the left-hand menu; select “Architectural Standards Committee.” Here you will find all the ASC Polices and Covenants. All applications are available for download as well.
Do I need a permit to trim my trees, touch up the paint on my trim, plant some flowers, etc.? Everyday maintenance does not require an ASC approval; however, it is a good idea to give the ASC Administrator a call. A “Maintenance Permit” may be issued and a copy sent to Security. Notifying the ASC and/or obtaining a Maintenance Permit will avoid
misunderstandings between the ASC and the homeowners.
Can I remove a tree without ASC approval? No tree larger than 6” in diameter at DBH (Diameter at Breast Height) can be removed without a tree permit.
How do I know where my property lines are? All residents are encouraged to have an As Built survey of their property. This is the only true way to know your exact property lines and setbacks. If you are on the harbour, the side lines are marked with a metal medallion that is embedded in the bulkhead.
Is that approved work? There should be a permit posted in a window or on a sign if an ASC approval was given.
Do you have a copy of my house plans? Wexford has scanned copies of most Wexford homes. A plan disc is available or the plans can be emailed at a cost of $25.
What is the deadline for plan submittal? The ASC Committee meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month to review project submittals. Submittals need to be in the ASC office no later than 3 pm on the Wednesday before the scheduled ASC meeting.
How do I contact the ASC office? The ASC office hours are Monday-Thursday, 7am to 3pm. The direct number is (843) 686-8820, email is [email protected]. The ASC office is located in the Village at Wexford, Suite J18. Appointments are appreciated.
