Scan for more Info Western Michigan University’s Coaching Sport Performance (M.A.) program prepares students for successful careers in a coaching profession. The program’s engaging curriculum enables students to acquire a well- rounded knowledge base and relevant practical experiences necessary to become successful coaches at all levels of sporting competition. The program has been accredited at the highest level (Level 5) by the National Council for Accreditation of Coaching Education. The program is also aligned with the “8 Domains of Coaching” as identified in the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NASPE). Consists of 36 graduate credit hours of classroom and field experiences and takes about two years to complete. Teaching, Research, and Program Focus AreasTheM.A.CoachingSportPerformance’sdynamiccurriculumisbeingtaughtbynumberoffacultywhoholdexpertiseintheareasalignedwiththeNationalStandardsforSportCoaches(NASPE).Ourfacultyhavemanyyearsoffieldexperienceandhavespecificexpertiseincoaching,sportpsychology,exercisescience,physicaleducation,nutrition,sportsmanagement,recreation,athletictraining,andhealthandwellness.

Theprogrampreparesstudentsforcoachingcareersatalllevelsofsportingcompetitionincluding:youth,interscholastic,intercollegiate,Olympic,para-Olympicorprofessional.Ourengagingprogrampreparesstudentstoacquireawell-roundedknowledgebaseandrelevantpracticalexperiencesthatpromoteanathlete-centered,life-longdevelopmentmodelofsportparticipationwiththegoalofmaximizingthebenefits

ofsportforallparticipants.
