EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP: RECOGNIZE GOD

IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

I am a sports fan, and perhaps you are one, too. I don't follow all sports, but those that I do follow usually involve a team. There is something about a team of individuals coming together for the goal of victory that is compelling. A team is only as good as the sum of all its players. If you have all the right talent at the right positions, great things can happen. What is hard for a fan to watch is a team that has great talent but fails to achieve its goals because some players choose not to give their all to the team. Selfishness, apathy, or immaturity keep some from giving fully of themselves. The hopes and dreams of a team and fan base are dashed even though they had all they needed to be the best.

A parish is a lot like a team. Those in a parish community work together to achieve goals that ultimately lead others to Christ. We come together to give of ourselves to advance the mission of the parish. When we all are committed to fully giving our gifts and talents, fulfilling our position in the Body of Christ, then our hopes and dreams of transforming the world around us can become reality.

However, when we sit out on the sidelines, we hurt our team. When we hold back and choose not to give of ourselves, we diminish what is truly possible for our parish community. I believe God always provides our parishes with what they need to be fruitful and vibrant. His gifts to us exist in each other. If you think your parish could be so much more, than perhaps this week you should call your pastor or other pastoral leader and say, "Put me in coach!"

- Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

When faced with a decision or a dilemma, where do we turn? Whenever we have to discern the proper course of action, the Holy Spirit is available as our advocate and guide. As Christians, we look not to our world for direction but to God. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to help us find our path to proper thought and conduct. Wisdom, right judgment, knowledge, understanding, fortitude, piety, and fear of the Lord are all perfect tools for discernment. These gifts allow us to keep our relationships and perspective in proper order. It is the Holy Spirit who opens our eyes to see that which we would otherwise overlook and opens our hearts to receive those people who would otherwise be ig-nored. Ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you today.

Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church

Welcome to one of the newest feasts in the Catholic Church! The feast of Mary, Mother of the Church, was established by Pope Francis in spring 2018. While the formal celebration is new, the honor is as old as the Gospels. Jesus spoke few words on the Cross, but several of them were addressed to his mother and the apostle John. "Woman, behold your son." "Son, behold your mother." This means far more than simply someone to care for Mary as she got on in years and someone for John to celebrate Jewish festivals with. John represents all of us, the Church. Jesus entrusted Mary to us as our mother. At the end of the historic Second Vatican Council in the midst of tumultuous times, Bl. Pope Paul VI formally declared Mary as Mother of the Church and invit-ed us to pray to her under that title. With our recent celebration of the birthday of the Church at Pente-cost, we remember that every birth has a mother. Happy Feast of Mary, Mother of the Church!

-Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

Voluntarios

septiembre. Durante el verano tenemos una

oportunidad para recibir capacitación para formar a

nuestras familias en la fe. La necesidad más urgente

es con los adolescentes para la Confirmación. Para

poder dejar un nuevo grupo comenzar vamos a

necesitar catequistas. Servir en la catequesis es

una misión. Uno es llamado de

Jesucristo.
