TheSportManagementprogramisdesignedtoprovidethegradu-atewiththeknowledge,skills,andattitudestoengageinthepracticeofmanagement in a variety of settings. Managementdoctoralstudentwillhaveamaximumtimefordegreecom-pletionofeightyears,inclusiveofcompletingdissertationrequirements.However, it is important tonote that a full-time student (i.e., taking6creditsperterm)maybeabletocompletecourseworkintwo(2)years.Additionally,dissertationmayrequire1-2yearstofullycomplete. Timeframe for the Comprehensive ExaminationThecomprehensiveexamisreccommendedtobetakeninthelast

Preparing for the Comprehensive ExaminationThe comprehensive exam is a collaborative process between the

studentandthecomprehensiveexamcommitteechair,withparticipationbytwootherselectedmembersofthecomprehensiveexamcommittee.Atleasttwopersons(includingthecommitteechair)mustbefromtheSchoolofHospitality,Sport,andTourismManagement,andonemem-berwhomustholdafull-timeGraduateFacultystatusmaybeselectedfromadifferentacademic,yetrelateddiscipline.Studentswillmeetwiththeir respectiveComprehensive ExaminationCommitteeChair to dis-cusscomponentsoftheexamandresourcestoassisttheminrespondingtothequestions.Contactbythestudentwithothercommitteemembersisrecommended.Eachmember,includingthechair,oftheexaminationcommitteewillprepareandevaluatequestionswithintheareasoftheirexpertise,includingatleastonesectionforresearchandstatistics.

Taking the Comprehensive ExaminationThe comprehensive examination committee will determine the

dates of the exam and the timeframe for the students to return their re-sponses.Boththeexamandresponsereturndateswillbeprovidedtothestudentwellinadvanceoftakingtheexamtominimizeinterferenceofexternalentities(i.e.,jobs,familyissues,etc…).Thechairofthecompre-hensiveexaminationwilloverseetheadministrationofthecomprehen-siveexamsincludingthedistributionofthewrittenexamtothestudent,collection of the responses, dissemination of the answers to the othermembersofthecomprehensiveexaminationcommitteeandschedulingthe oral examination.

Written ExaminationThewrittenportionofthecomprehensiveexaminationwillevalu-
